My first watch(diver) review...
« on: June 01, 2010, 05:06:37 PM »
After selling my green Seiko 5 military to petertakashi  because I am fed up with the big size and inability for the strap to fit into my small wrist. I got myself a Seiko diver SKX013 which is the mini version of the SKX007.

Here are the specs

-Movement: Seiko 7S26 caliber (more can be search on the net)

-Case width: 36 MM including bezel but not crown as it is on 4o’clock instead at usual 3 o’clock.

-Screw in crown

-200 M water-resistant.

What do i think about this watch?

Well after wearing big watches like the Seiko 5 (42MM), Fortis Flieger Chrono (40mm but GIANT lug) and Praesto Aviator (44mm). I find out that it really fit my wrist well as you can see in the picture below.

Case, Bezel, Caseback

The most of the watch case is polished which I don’t really like because it will be a ding and fingerprint magnet as you can see in some of the photos I took.

The bezel is really solid and had the nibbed thingy to make us easy to grip on the bezel. The bezel action is firm. Unlike monster (I touch other monsters) which the bezel is loose in a way.

The caseback is the usual Tsunami picture.

Wao, Can see my own reflection on the polished part of watch.

The Tsunami picture

Bracelet

This is my first bracelet equip watch. I had phobia of wearing bracelet watch because fear of it pulling my wrist hair.

This watch come with what ppl call it Jublee bracelet (no extension). There is a version of this same watch that come with oyster bracelet with diver extension (like the one on SBCM023) which could be ONLY  get it from an internet shop based in Singapore but not on fizikal shop.

The clasp design is what I think it’s similar to Rolex flip-lock. (The picture will explain how it worked)

flip lock opening sequence

Accuracy

I had no precise idea on the accuracy of the watch as I do not have any definitive timing device like atomic watch or thermo-compensated watch (takashi I am aiming at you GS haha  ;D ;D ;D ;D :Praying:). But for sure it was better performing than Green Seiko 5 watch which go fast around 30++ sec’s per-day. I guess it will be around 10-20 sec fast per-day.

Lume

The lume is not really good if compared with the Seiko Monster or Sumo. But it is more than enough for me. It really last visible throughout the night once your eye is adjusted to it.

Group pic together with Fortis, Seiko diver, Praesto and now petertakashi owned seiko 5

Conclusion

I find this watch (small watches alike) is really perfect for me.  We all know about the big watch trend now, I don’t really buy into that idea of wearing super-size watches apart from the one I had. If you like this watch but don’t like the small size, there is SKX007 waiting for ya.

So, looking forward on getting Rolex Airking in next few years (5-6 years latter lol  ;D :Dancing_banana:). I prefer it over the explorer one. Dont ask me why i prefer airking. thats all

*Disclaimer, No offence to Panerai and Explorer Episode 1 owner…. lol :Laughing_on_floor:
* Does that sub remind anyone of something  :Laughing_on_floor:

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;DHope you enjoy it  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nice review. Keep it up.

Care to pm how much? I was looking at the 007 the other day and its value.

I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

Hi Abel,
Great review, and congrats on your latest catch. Looks fantastic on your wrist.

By the way whoever gave you the idea that bracelets will pinch your wrist hair?

Nice review. I though u wrist size is abt e same like me but how come those 40mm can't sit well on u wrist? Suggest you to go Gym more often :HammerHead:

I blif some of the bracelets will pinch the wrist hair even the high end brands like PP & AP.  The PP Nautilus bracelet "trim" my wrist hair whn I try it on during the MWF SG GTG. Once again thanks to James for lending out his shaver to trim my wrist hair... :Laughing_on_floor:

Ya, thats why i prefer small watches instead of the giant size watch. It may still fit in but I prefer smaller 1 anyhow.

The bracelet pinching my hand thing is my idea, tried on my brother and my father bracelet watch and all it does is pulling my hair  :HammerHead:
But the seiko diver bracelet really change my view on bracelet

the 40 mm can sit well on my wrist, just that the lug for the strap is HUGE, therefore make the watch bigger.
My wrist size is under only more than 5 inch eh. I gotta remove alot of link just fit into my wrist :HammerHead:

There is no Japan domestic model for SKX series. SKX007J is available for purchase outside of Japan. Widely available in SG and from some local sellers. Only difference between J and K is the markings on the dial and caseback. Other than that everything is the same.
