Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch

This watch was recently launched but not here yet. Anyone getting one? What is your comment as regards to cost, practicality and whether the old tick tock will survive another attack from quartz technology?

Indeed it will. The market is big enough to sustain both. It is a return to the renaissance for all things mechanical that will sustain mechanical watches.

Interesting tech gadget.

It's one thing to be talking with a BT headset. It will be even more interesting to see what a person looks like talking to his/her watch. Soon. no one will think we're weird when we're staring at our mechanical watches...

Every 3 yrs u felt the tech is old, hence buy new version...

It's jus another digital product

I do think fine mechanical watches has its position in watch lover like us...
So, perhaps some brand that sell at the digital watch price range will be affected

i'm waiting for the Sony SmartWatch 2.
the Samsung has going for it a 1.9mp voyeur camera, but the Sony can change straps

Unless you use a Samsung S4 or are planning on buying the note3, i doubt anything else will work with the Gear...barring any future updates to the other Samsung sets.

its just another it gadget.
sony once lunched it, but didnot quite get it to make a hit.
as announced, couple of other tech giant are introducing similar gadget.

mechanical watches, especially the good ones (regardless of price range) will forever not be phase out.

Yes, you are correct. I bought one just to use it to climb Mt Kinabalu. The climb did not materialised and some time later the son took a liking on the watch and the rest is history.

In my opinion the smart watch should be on the primary hand i.e. right hander, right wrist. This is because in most activities, you would use your primary hand and when notification comes from the smart watch it is already in focus

I've been using data plan for many years already, it really help me a lot, especially I need to check the stock market price from time to time. Use own data plan also safer compare to the free wifi out there.

I believe the tissot t-touch is able to do the above , quite cool.

I heard that this smart watch required to charge frequently (perhaps very 3-4, or a week). Not like any quartz watch which will last 2-3years.

Do you know if this is true?

I've only seen one person wearing one and it looked huge. Like he had strapped a small phone to his wrist. A bit too 'star trek' for my liking. Take the phone out of your pocket when you want to check it. For telling time it makes the wearer look as cool as those people with Bluetooth headsets on their ears. Just my take on it. Pre-teens may love it.

Three months later thrown in a drawer as it's a faff to charge, not compatible with your new phone maker and even your mum laughed when she saw it.

Maybe I'm just too old for the idea but the one person I saw wearing one was well over 60 and looked a bit pathetic, if I'm being very kind. No need to upgrade. Just an opinion though.

Samsung galaxy gear is marketed to different bunch of ppl

while

mechanical watch is marketed to different bunch of ppl

so

both of them will be doing fine as they are doing different stuff all together even though their function is to tell time
