any members here are from kuching?? lets have a gtg in kuching!
-
count me in..
-
I do hop over to Kuching pretty often, usually on my way to Sibu and Mukah to see clients. So if you guys confirm early the GTG date (if there is one), I should be able to try see if I can "coincide" the meetings. Then you will have at least one rep from the semenanjung. ;D
-
cool.. why not we have a GTG when you're on one of those hops?

That's not a bad idea. My next monthly meeting is scheduled on the week starting 1/10/12. No exact dates as yet. I can usually "demand" some flexibility from my clients. Usually I'll fly into Kuching 1st, thereafter to Sibu/Mukah if necessary.
-
i'm around town during those dates. hopefully more will join in?
-
My company's starting some operations in Kuching end of the year.
Maybe I might get a chance to visit? :Praying:
Sarawak's the only state in M'sia I've yet to visit.
& I believe Bro Dpkong has promised to take me shopping if I come over.
Keeping my fat fingers crossed.
Take care, Ciao!

OK, that's good and hope this GTG will take off. And happy Malaysia Day to all.
-

-
Hi, Steve + dpkong,
Sorry if I sound pushy, but if you guys are able to confirm the date as 3/10/12, I will pen that into my diary and fix my meeting in / flight to / hotel in KCH accordingly. Hope to hear from you guys soonest + thanks.
regards,
Enkidu (Loo)

i can comfirm!!! starbucks at jalan song sounds good to u guys?
-
Thanks Steve, I have no objection to your proposal, but let's just wait for dpkong and then let's confirm.
-
Starbucks got no alcohol.... I'll get bored too soon.
Just a date Oct 3 is too general as that can be anywhere from 12.01am to 11.59pm... :HammerHead:
If I may suggest a location, how about a pub at the old Upwell building, same row as the entrance to 360 Express hotel?
Time anywhere from say 8pm onwards? Unless you guys want to hunt watches, then time needs to be earlier??
-
I'll leave it to you Meow-meow people to decide on the time, venue, programme etc. This orang semenanjung got no car so will be going around in a taxi.
Looks like 3/10 is on, so will get my travel + hotel organised tomorrow.
Just the 3 of us? Or does that pub you mentioned come with lots of ....ahem...ahem... adult entertainment??
-
hm, i think its better to make it during the daytime so we can go for watchhunt !! i dun even know there is a pub at there aye. how about Mrho? beer is provided and comfortable place to molest watches? lolz. im cool with anything !! so excited to meet u guys !!
-
All depends where our guest will be staying and arrival time. The pub I suggested opens around 5pm till late. Serves good food too. Pretty quiet place usually and I know the owner. Mr Ho is OK for me thought I have not been there for ages.
It would be best to determine a time frame. May I suggest early or mid-afternoon if there is going to be a watch-hunt? We can meet up somewhere when our guest arrives and then move to watch hunt and then finish off at the pub I mentioned.
Do confirm early so I can re-schedule work and have a free afternoon.
Oh.. the pub has no adult entertainment but it's a stone's throw to a hot place. It's also walking distance to Pullman and other hotels.
-
Steve + dpkong,
Ahhhhh..please don't treat me like a guest. This orang semenanjung / orang Malaya is quite used to KCH. I will get my travel organised tomorrow and will let you know soonest where I will be staying this time. I think it's better we exchange telephone numbers just in case of last minute emergency like me being refused entry into KCH by your very friendly immigration.
-
im cool with everything! hopefully there will be more watch lovers to join us! the pub u mention is a good location for watchhunt ! dpkong u know that small watch shop at sarawak plaza? so far the best in kuching for me !! Enkidu, of course we can share telephone numbers. pls bear with my tiny and humble collection. ;D

Don't wear pam to meet endiku pls

Many Sarawakians normally still have that old-school gentlemanly mannerism, when we go over there, we need to behave appropriately. No fighting please. ;D
-
Steve + dpkong,
OK, I was just informed of my travel arrangements . KL --> KCH on 3/10/2012 morning. Normally, my meeting should finish by about 3pm. To be safe, make it 4pm. I'll be staying at the KCH Hilton.
My time is rather flexi after 4pm. So, I'll leave it to you guys to make the necessary arrangements to suit your own convenience also. No rush.
Steve, Don't worry about your tiny and humble collection. Knowing how many thousands of hectares of timber concession and mining concession lands all you sarawakians own, I guess "humble collection" means a box load of PPs, APs and VCs. We are all adults, no need to be so modest. I cannot bring too many, otherwise I'll need to pay for excess baggage charges. ;D ;D ;D
Just 3 of us? Serious? Good excuse for adult entertainment then....... ;)
-
Pics afterwords!
-
Enkidu , 4 pm sounds great to me. not all sarawakians are taib's abang adik ba..i will pay for the excess bargage charges !! we just have to wait for dpkong comfirmation then its on! :Dancing_banana:
-
After 4 pm is great. Hilton is a good location. Shop in Sarawak Plaza closes about 6pm or so. Do you also want to visit his dad's shop in old town? I think he closes earlier around 4.30pm. There's another shop in Tabuan Jaya but I have not seen the collection nor the display case, if there is one at all. Owner regularly posts on mudah.
No other local seems to be responding and I won't comment here about the adult entertainment part. Will only discuss that after everyone present has been scanned/strip-searched for bugs and hidden cams... :Laughing_on_floor:

Hey Hanz, book a flight or just take a nice leisurely drive down the Pan Borneo HW. Drinks and food on me. Remember to bring along that beautiful heirloom you were showing off to me in August (I still haven't got mine!!!!!). Wow, if you are attending, the GTG will be like the 1962 Cobbold Commission all over again.
-
Pics afterwords!
You mean pics of the adult entertainment we will be having?? Cannot lar....some members here could be under-aged (not good for their moral development), some could be overaged (not good for their health). Hey, mods must be straight and clean, shouldn't be visualising such humsub things.

Guys, Don't put any pressure on yourselves. I am really OK with KCH. At one time, many many years ago, I contemplated moving there. That's another old story of course......
-
So if I am in, I assume i can survive with an empty wallet? ;D

So if I am in, I assume i can survive with an empty wallet? ;D
C'mon Hanz, flight distance from KK to KL is 1600km. The flight distance From KK to Kuching is only about 800km. So it's just half way. Good chance to see some watches, visit new places, make new friends, I am sure it's worth the time and the little money to be spent.
-

U must know "kayu balak" means toothpick in Sabah right? ;D

Hi, Steve + Dpkong,
So, what are the specific plans? Or maybe all of us should just meet up somewhere (and at a specific time) 1st and then decide (only four of us still, should be easy).
regards,
Enkidu
-
I might be able to bring someone along to increase the size to five.
Since hanz079 is arriving earlier, I might try to take off work earlier to guide him around. Meeting up at 4pm or earlier and then making plans from there would be ideal. First stop would likely be the watch shop nearby and then if time permits, another one not a very long drive away. After that, f&b at the suggested location.
Is that OK?
-
Hi, Dpkong, Sounds good. I'll contact you or steve once I have finished my work (should be around 3pm normally) and discuss the place + time of meeting. Like I told Hanz earlier, just don't go anywhere exciting / interesting without me!!
-
so we just meet at the pub u mention earlier at 4 pm dpkong? enkidu, we will discuss the exciting/intersting place when we meet, lol! :Laughing_on_floor:
-

Where's the pub? Near 360 Xpress Hotel kah?
Since I am arriving early, most probably will be wandering around town waiting till gtg time.
-
The pub is called "The Den" but it only opens at around 5pm. It's at the end of the row of shops, same as the entrance to 360 Express.
Since Enkidu is staying at Hilton, I suggest meeting up at the lobby of either hotel. The walk to Sarawak Plaza is not far from either place.
What say you guys?
-
Guys,
OK, no problem with me. I'll be at the 360Express Hotel at approx. 4pm. If I cannot be there by 4pm, will contact one of you guys.
I'll be the fat balding guy wearing 2 watches, so will be easy for you guys to spot. ;D
So Hanz gets to be shown around by dpkong earlier? Just take him to the Sarawak Museum. If still got time, to the Islamic Museum, Chinese Museum, Brooke's old palace and the famous Tua Pek Kong temple...... No visits to the watch shops please...
best regards,
Enkidu (Loo)
-
I will be there by 4 pm, I will be wearing 2 watches as well
-
are you fellas serious?? i mean wearing TWO watches??
if so, i should come with watches on my ankles as well.. hahahaha

Met up with Enkidu, steveting and hanz079 at around 4pm and headed out watch hunting.
Firstly, some ROOs. I'm liking the rubberclad a lot now. So hard to choose between the ROOs..

RO vs ROO

I like this piece..
RO on my wrist. Nice and perfect fit for a 41mm. Amazing AP quality which one can really feel . Rolex feels cheap compared to this.

I believe hanz079 has much better pictures with a proper camera.
-
Walau...
The RO is lovely..
-
OMG someone has a large wrist!
Almost never seen someone wear a watch on the last 2 holes hehehe.
Nice GTG and so nice of the members to bring so many watch along.
-
Enkidu or dpkong,
can you pm me the name and location and if possible the contacts of the shop in Kuching where they have so many APs, plse.. Lovely APs.....
I wish I could have joined you guys but couldnt make it on the dates...hopefully this becomes a periodical gathering in future...
-

Pete, I am guessing you're talking about the Longines Legend Diver? The marks are not that the watch is worn on the last 2 holes.
It's because the watch has been strapped on the last hole on display for a year... before I bought it... The watch is actually brand new.
I am the one who bought it but not for myself. Favour for a good friend... I hope he doesn't mind the wear marks. ;D
-
Wow...that sucks...you should have asked for a new strap or better discount.
-
Some updates and pics.
Met up with Steve, Dpkong @ Donald and Enkidu @ Loo at 4pm.
We went watch hunting at a local pre owned shop.
In my opinion, the range of watches that they have is pretty impressive.
After that, we went to a local watering hole.
Lighting is not really good so quality of pics is not that up to par.

Good variety of watches on display.

As a diehard Zenith fan, I am particularly happy to see this piece. Been wanting a modern Zenith to add to my collection.
Due to the new 42mm case size, I was unsure wether it will fit me.
Feels and looks ok to me.
Big thanks to Enkidu for bringing in the piece.
This piece was an attention grabber as well.
The Longines Legend Diver no date.
I think Enkidu, Steve and Donald only saw this piece for the 1st time.
Shame on Donald and Steve, because this piece have been sitting on a Kuching Local AD Display cabinet for a year!!!
Most agree that the watch is "yiu pee yiu chee" in hokkien.
The pub owner came around and saw the watches on display, we asked him... which one u like?
1st choice is the SubC, no surprise there... his 2nd choice was actually this Longines Legend Diver... which says alot about this watch.
He doesn't give two hoots about the two TT Daytonas there... alamak!! What has the world come to?
Planet Ocean 45.5mm Quantum of Solace.
Hefty watch. Good built quality.

Rolex Daytona TT Panda Dial.
Rolex DSSD... this is one monster of a watch... So big and so thick that it needs macho arms and wrists to carry it...
Rolex SubC... Iconic design... nice heft but not overpowering... I actually liked the black more than the green hulk.
This Seiko chrono is a really really nice watch... it reminds me so much of my Zenith Rainbow Flyback.
I have no idea on the history or model reference and I hope the owner will share more info on this one.
Would hunt for one if priced right.

This must be Steve's favourite shot... on the Royal Oak 15400 as well.
All in all, this was a fruitful trip for me.
Besides getting the Longines Legend Diver for my friend.
We also talked alot about watches in general.
What we like, what pisses us off... ;D
We reached the pub at a little after 5pm... and we left at 10.30pm (which we continued to some adult entertainment scene) ... we talk kok sing song for a solid 5 hours+... wouldn't last that long if we are not equally happy to talk about our favourite hobby... watches!!
Info and history was shared and free flowing... as well as the beer...
All in all, I would like to thank Donald for the beer and food.
Loo for bringing in His Zenith and Seikos... his knowledge in Seiko and watches in general are pretty good.
Steve for taking me to the adult entertainment scene, spending me congee and bringing me around the next morning as well as sending me to the airport.
The hospitality have been excellent and it has been worthwhile for me.
-
Fantastic gtg and report
-
Nice mini GTG event, the AP RO 15400 is so awesome!!
Would like to see some 'wrist shots' during the 5 hours + of 'adult entertainment' ;D ;D
-
More quick and dirty shots using the phone... damn the lighting... no really good decent pics.

Many thanks to Hanz for the pics and great appreciation to Donald and Steve for the great Kuching hospitality!! Great discussion, great food, great drinks and great watches.
My first experience testing out 2 TT daytonas, an awesome DSSD and of course the AP RO, all placed on one table. Every WIS's dream

nice to meet you guys!! damn, my mind is all about RO now!!!!! hanz is really good at brainwashing!! :Laughing_on_floor:
-
Great pics and report Hanz!
Looks like a good trip even have time to pick up a new watch for your friend.
Is that a Mil spec Seiko i spy?
-
At first Hanz spreading the Zenith poison now AP....
-
Is that a Mil spec Seiko i spy?
If you are referring to that non-chrono seiko, yes, indeed you see a mil spec seiko quartz made in the 1990's. Made in Japan, anti-magnetic, has a dust cover beneath the case back.
The chrono is a seiko 7A38 made in April 1984. It's exactly the same as the 7A28 I posted before, except that this one , being a 7A38, has a day-date function.
-
It was great meeting up and I do hope it happens more often. Fantastic to be able to try on the SubC, Zenith @ 42mm and the RO at 41mm. Only the PO and DSSD were too large for my liking.
And Hanz was like a walking watch encyclopedia...
-
Oh..for a while there i thought i saw this one.

No lah......that 4S15 was issued only to General Yamashita and General Takashi. The one I have was issued to the privates and kamikaze squadrons scapegoats. :Laughing_on_floor:

And since you have the DSSD to mark your graduation, maybe an RO for a nother significant event... wedding?
@Donald.
Believe me I am no watch encyclopedia... Enkidu probably knows way more than I do since he's in the hobby for over 20 years.
And what I know is only from reading articles and reading links sent to me by helpful friends. You know who you are
You help me I help you mah... hahaha

Bro Hanz, nice Submariner ceramic date. :Dancing_banana:
