Started running early last year. Chepeast sports, all you need is sport attire and a pair of shoes  ;D

not much of a serious runner but would love to join a marathon one day.

only a threadmill runner for warming up for gym sessions.

my normal routine would just be strapping on my HRM and get into 60-80% zone for 20-40 minutes 3 times a week.

what shoes are u using?

currently using Nike Free and is liking it alot. have a high arch and cant wear anything with too much support.

interested to go for a more softer shoe. like the Nike Free 5.0 and thinking to go 3.0 when it's time for a new pair.

Used to do some running when my old house is a near a public jogging park.
Wearing my Adidas running shoes.
If you're looking for serious running equipment, best bet is still Adidas or New Balance.

currently running with asics shoes.
thinking about changing to new balance.
heard only bad things about nike running shoes among runners.
terence, test your endurance, join some 10km run, gradually to 21km half marathon, and eventually to full 42km marathon.

I was gonna say the same about Nike shoes but takut later kena flame...  :Laughing_on_floor:
Nike is more into fashion.
If you're a serious runner, New Balance will have a shoe to fit any kind of foot you have be it high arch, flat footed, wide front or etc.
Adidas equipment line is also recommended for serious runners.
Only buy Nike if you're in it for casual...
My 2 sen ar... dun flame me... heehee  :Praying:

i don;t believe there's any best or worst shoes only shoes that fits you best.

i use to sell shoes when i was staying in Atlantic City for my aunt's shoe store. I get to try all kind of shoes and the Americans love their NB. Other than their walking shoes the 574s, 996s and etc.. i dun feel comfortable in their running shoes at all. but i love their walking shoes... have tons of 574s in all colours.

Also tried Adidas before but like i said i do not like anything with too much support.. cause i have a high arch and tend to have a supination problem. all these "torsion flex" etc.... are nothing but gimmick to me.

After i tried Nike Free everything changed. I do not have a supination problem anymore and also my feet are stronger and i do not feel that my arch is aching after a run.

Although breaking in period is torture because the shoe is so soft that your muscles have to readjust and relearn to handle your runs. but now i would not wear anything that is too stiff and actually thinking of going for a softer shoe. Somehow even the Vibram five fingers sounds enticing.

I have a high arch foot as well and I find New Balance and Adidas is most comfortable when running or trekking.
Of course everyone will have his or her own preference, if not we'll all be wearing the same model frm the same manufacturer...  :Laughing_on_floor:
I used to be a big fan of Nike, I remember during my 1st climb up Mount Kinabalu... bough myself a Nike ACG (All Conditions Gear) and made my way up... the bloody shoe was so slippery and I slipped north of 20 times... 20 TIMES!!! Imagine that... I was thinking All Conditions Gear my @$$!!
Even the mountain guide was telling me my shoe is hopeless...
So I tried other makes after that and mostly stick to Adidas and New Balance.

i been wearing teva slipper for 10 yrs.... its too comfortable, so hard to change to another brand....
1 pair can wear for 2-3 yrs.... till the mark worn out and slippery....

as for mountain climbing... i prefer those used badminton shoes.... jogging shoe hurts if downhill, tracking shoe too heavy, teva sandle too exposed....

that's a will that's a way.
you gotta start somewhere.
here's some useful tips
Quote
5km is a good distance for runners to gradually ease into. Start of with short easy jogs of about 10 - 15mins before slowly progressing to timed runs of up to an hour. Once you can sustain runs of about 40 mins to an hour without stoppage, you can slowly introduce speed in variations such as tempos, fartleks, track workouts, etc. Keep in mind the need to simultaneously maintain total body fitness n core strength.

Target time 1:15 hours.

Congrats CK

You ran 21km in 2'54 (first time?), you should be able complete the 10km in under 1 hour. Time increases exponentially with distance. You will be able to run a little faster since you'll just need to stretch your "power reserve" over 10km as oppose to 21km.
Title: Re: Running Thread

Offcial result:

Rank BIB No      Gun Time   Net Time      Split 1
1462 E-07162    02:55:14   02:54:12     01:13:30
Men's Open - Half Marathon (Men)

My first 10.5km still within my target time of 01:15:00
Second half was just too slow  :HammerHead:

@hush, second time joining SCKLM. Not so confident in finishing 1 hour for 10km, maybe I aim for 1:05 hour.

jogging really helps to tone and trim ur muscle.....I jog for the sake of healthy reason. Jogging wise, at least 30 minutes for health reason, 1 hour for slimming purpose.

I usually jog after work, n occasionally wake up at 6 to run in the cool breeze where u still can smell the dew in the air.
