Title: Watches and Wonders 2023
Post by: 21guns on March 03, 2023, 12:22:24 PM
Watchfam, WW 2023 is coming soon.

I am wondering will Rolex unveil new iteration of Submariner as this year marks 70th anniversary of the model?

Not to mention it is also 60th anniversary of Daytona.

What do you guys expect from WW 2023. Cheers.

Submariner line was just updated in 2020 so doubt any changes for it...

The Daytona though has been around for awhile. I'm also curious what will happen to the Milgauss.

Maybe more variations of the GMT-Master II? That half-coloured bezel combo always gives them a boost in demand hahaha

The Milgauss has always been predicted to be discontinued...I hope they update the movement at least with better power reserve!

Was also thinking about another "half-colored bezel" like the Coke.. that would be interesting seeing how the Pepsi is more purple than blue.

Good thing I got the Submariner after 2020 with the new case and movement. A new movement for the Milgauss is one reason I delay adding one. I just hope they don't do the same silly thing they did to the Air-King and add crown guards.

Oh my - that could be a possibility - adding a crown guard to the Milgauss. But hope they keep the funky green glass even if they do change - I love that touch!

But on the Datejust end - i think probably more motif dials...

Also, I wonder if they will re-introduce 39mm to their lineup...

Watch and Wonders is here! What do you guys think of the line up  - top picks and bottom choices?

My initial thoughts (haven't finished browsing all of it):

- Not a big fan of the vintage looking pieces from IWC (Ingenieur) and Rolex (1908)

- I dig the new Daytona with metal/gold case around the ceramic bezel and finally transparent casebacks for Rolex (rotor should have been everose gold)!

- The Gronefeld 1969 DeltaWorks caseback is Insaneeee!

- And a prediction of mine kena! New Ash-Black GMT-Master II - though not a fan of yellow gold

Rolex is as usual, meh  :Laughing_on_floor:

But that Gronefeld Delta Works tho....their order books completely swamped following the Delta Works and Gronograaf release.

On a side note, the Oris x Kermit the frog pun mcm best  ;D

I like the Chopard Alpine Eagle with the salmon dial. But the prices....oolala!
Genta revival Ingeniuer is also nice but again the prices are just silly.

Colourful OP Rolexes are nice but will be impossible to obtain while the emoji Day Dates are just nuts.

I might just be collecting older pieces from Chrono24.

The Ingeniuer caught my attention…nice watch…

Not sure why Rolex wanna messed with the winner (Daytona), with additional ring, smaller subdial and wordings ..

And as usual, buried behind the hypebeasts, top dawg JLC keeps churning out masterpieces year after year. Like these  :o

Some interesting pieces from W&W this year. My thoughts (some of them, so far);

Like:
- Rolex OP "Celebration" (fun and cheap, why not?)
- Rolex GMT black/grey in two-tone and solid YG on jubilee
- Rolex Daytona (prefer the new dial, and really like the WG)
- Rolex 1908 (yummy yummy yummy)
- Discontinued Milgauss (finally)
- Trilobe Une Folle Journée "Dune" (let's hope they finally make it to MY)
- PP 5261R Luce Annual Calendar (would totally wear this)
- IWC Ingenieur (such a nice reissue, very practical size)
- JLC Reverso Chronograph (really nice Tribute colour, the chrono side is very nice too)

Meh:
- Rolex Sky Dweller update
- Rolex Daytona transparent caseback (imo, pointless and also nothing much to look at)
- Lange Odysseus Chronograph
- VC Retrograde models (they have made great retrogrades in the past; these don't quite make the cut for me)
- Panerai
- Cartier
- Rolex Day Date Emoji (I think it's an April Fool's prank -- but what do I know?)
- Oris ProPilot Kermit (a little late, and what the price)
- Tudor
- Rolex 1908 price (adoi la... profile builder tau)
- Well, everything that is "hard to get" is default meh as well... right?

Dislike:
- Rolex Explorer 40 (39, 36, now 40... same Air King case? what is going on?)
- IWC Ingenieur is how much? MYR50k for steel? Really? I thought it'd be closer to 30ish...
- JLC Reverso Chronograph is MYR95.5k!? What??
- PP Calatrava 6007G (was nice LE before, but now I wonder what's going on)
