Title: Do you guys like the 39mm BB58?
Post by: Junny on October 23, 2021, 03:44:42 PM
Hi all! Was just wondering if you guys prefer the 41mm version or the 39mm version more! Maybe you guys can share me your thoughts!

100% the 39mm. It’s slimmer, lighter and looks better in person. There’s a reason why 39mm always out of stock in the ADs

Personally i prefer the 39mm too because of the slimmer case as well… but I can understand for those with bigger wrists the 41mm may be a better fit. But then again I also wear a 44mm Panerai and yet love the BB58.

Thats kinda true too. I myself have a rather small wrist. I tried the 41mm on but it seem abit too big for my liking. Also quite bulky! Quite amazed by how just 2mm can make such huge difference..

Very much prefer the 58. The 20mm lug width works with all my other watch straps and makes my life easier  :Laughing_on_floor:

wow nice! maybe you shud rekindle your love with a change of straps...like our abang pleasuresaurus - he has aplenty. haha!

Oh and @dpkong, I did a lil coverage within another thread on this here

https://www.malaysiawatchforum.com/index.php?topic=22368.125 (https://www.malaysiawatchforum.com/index.php?topic=22368.125)

Bought the strap from Strapcode - brought it in from HK. paid about +/- RM600 shipped. personally, I love this bracelet in terms of the looks vs the original faux rivets. Of course, the finish is not as refined as the original, but acceptable and the fine adjustments is a plus!

But wait, there's even more racun! Uncle Seiko has a new range of bracelets for the 58 as well, a Jubilee and President style, along with additional half links to help with more accurate sizing.

If there's one thing I like about the 58, it's a veritable strap monster. This thing is up there with the best of them, like the Moonwatch and Submariner, when it comes to strap options. It just stays fresh-looking all the time.

@bulletnos yeah maybe i should start looking at more strap alternatives too! i quite like the rivet-less strap tho!

@pleasuresaurus looks like i might have to spend money again. hahahahah. lets see how it goes. am still thinking of another daily watch/beater that is versatile currently. but dont have any specific watch models in mind yet.

Depends on your preference.

Well, in case ur concerned about size, dont have to be - I for one use a 44mm PAM90 that fits my size (IMO) - and wear the 39mm BB58 with ease as well…

I prefer this to the 41mm variant. So much more comfortable due to a smaller and slimmer profile. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220324/5eb55b0b5f46f169bb7877a6b8c76c31.jpg)

I guess it also depends on what other watches each has on rotation. If the BB58 is the main beater - then certainly a good one imo! But If you already rotate with other favourites...then that BB58 may just sit in the winder. Happened to me. But I still love the watch - doesn't make it any less desirable!

while many do not agree with this article, I must say the author got so many points correct.

myself only find the blue Pelagos interesting because I am drawn to blue, the watch is big but titanium makes it lighter, the bracelet is the only one without the annoying rivets and comes with that innovative clasp, lume is nice (bezel has lume too) and it has a date. it's a great beater watch indeed.

now if only they made the chronos like they did before, the Tiger (Prince Date) chrono....

While I somewhat agree with this article. I also have to say that there are many merits to this watch. Watches are boring for a reason. And that reason is what makes it stand the test of time. When a dive watch is mentioned, the first watch that usually comes to mind is a Rolex submariner. The most copied (2nd most copied, I think the datejust is the most copied) and the most boring of all sports watches. Black and steel…how boring can that be? It’s so boring that Rolex had to start introducing a touch of colour to the watch to give it some variety. (1680 red, 16610LV, 116610LV, 126610LV).
I’m a boring person, so I’ll stick to boring watches.

Now back to the Black Bay…I don’t think it’s boring.

In fact it’s soooooo different compared to the submariner. It’s got a red triangle, gilt hands and minute markers.

The bracelet does not taper as much as the submariner
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220511/b5f740a9e74794f91fde4d954c6d2e92.jpg)
And hey…it’s true to its original design of having “rivets”
And the clasp is comfortable too…

I also like the slightly domed crystal. And the play of light when it’s in the sun.

I have a small six and a half inch wrist. So this watch really wears well and slips under the cuff of my shirts.

I wear everything from a 37mm watch to a 44mm watch.

That said, I think that the black bay 58 sits perfectly in the middle. A comfortable, easy to wear and best of all, no date watch. Even if I don’t wear it for a while, I just have to wind it up, set the time and go…I’m leaning towards smaller, time only watches these days. So to each his own. Some may find this watch boring, so be it…everyone is entitled to their own opinions. No wrongs and no rights here. Everyone has a certain preference at a certain point in their watch loving timelines. This is my timeline, my preference at this present moment. You have to find out what is yours through trial and error.

Most importantly, enjoy your journey…make lots of like minded, watch loving friends along the way. And share your journey so that we may all appreciate how similar or how different our paths can be.

I think the BB 58 blue is going to be my next purchase. Held back a little to check out the Pelagos 39, but the BB 58 remains my favourite Tudor offering. The size also works much better on a 6.5 inch wrist than the 41mm Black Bay.
Title: Re: Do you guys like the 39mm BB58?
Post by: avaxis on January 01, 2023, 12:46:38 PM
The proportions of the BB58 is almost perfect. The dial especially, not so much blank space. In fact I would say if it’s 2 liner instead of 3 on the 6 o’clock position it would be cleaner.

The case isn’t too thick, just nice enough to ride under cuffs. Many people seem to forget just not too long ago gentleman size for Datejust was only 36mm, and men like Mohammad Ali had no issues wearing a 24mm (?) Cartier Tank.

I prefer the blue over the black over its fauxtina, but I do fancy that red triangle on the bezel. A bit pop of color.

Post by: qhy500 on January 10, 2023, 10:11:35 PM
Agree with most people here, BB58's proportion is great, especially for people with smaller wrists. The weight of the watch also makes it a great wear since its heavy enough to have a presence but not too heavy its cumbersome.

Not sure why but I prefer the blue, maybe the fuaxtina trend is getting boring.

Also tried on the Pelagos 39 to compare against the BB58, it's got its own pros vs BB58 but the dial actually makes the watch a 40mm, so it wears bigger on the wrist and can be quite noticeable on smaller wrists like mine.
Title: Re: Do you guys like the 39mm BB58?
Post by: avaxis on January 11, 2023, 03:34:52 PM
I felt they took too much away from the Pelagos 39 during the downsize. 200m instead of 300m, the HEV.. not that 99% of divers will go deeper than 200m.

From that front I think the BB58 is still the better deal than the Pelagos 39.
Title: Re: Do you guys like the 39mm BB58?

The BB58 has a much nicer color palete too, vs the pelagos.

I like blue.... I like the BB58 blue...  but it can't beat the blue on the Pelagos

I think its perfectly alright for Tudor to remove the more 'functional' aspect of the Pelagos 42 for the 39, ultimately they're looking to sell it as a 'fashion' accessory with some dive functionalities vs the other way around. The marketing material made that quite clear too.

As for colour options, I'm sure in the next few years they'll introduce more colour choices, similar to what they've done with the BB58 line.

But having said all that, just the proportion of the BB58 alone makes me a bigger fan of it vs the pelages 39

Pelagos 39 function is same as BB58 now, except the titanium. At the respective price point makes BB58 look like a better deal. Unless you fancy the titanium.

The titanium does make the watch a lot lighter to wear, and the quick adjustment clasp on the bracelet is pretty great. But agree still think the BB58 is a better deal, don't think those features justify the price difference unless you really really want them

You'd do well with the 39. If anything, less regret. WF own the same sizing scheme too.

I'm a relatively big guy and like the 58 but 39mm seems a tad too small on the wrist. lol I went for the 41mm instead.

the smaller and slimmer 39 version - however Tudor new 37mm is also very tempting
Title: BB58 at 39 already small for me, the BB54 even more so...

Had a look at them in Pavilion Tudor. I must say the 54 is very nice but it just feels so small for me. Requires a major mindset shift for me at least. I'm most comfortable with 40-44mm.

I have a small wrist and tried on the BB54, much prefer that over the BB58 and the t-fit clasp fits really well too.

The 54 is nice, especially like the idea if the T-Fit clasp and the rubber strap being available right off the bat. But. 37mm is just too small for me - the 58 will do just fine.

I used to wear bigger watches. But now this is my biggest watch and the rest don’t get much wrist time.

I am leaning towards smaller watches these days as I’m getting older.

I recently let go a bb58 blue with a tudor ranger bracelet for just 10.6k and regretted like crazy.. just loved how it just sits flat on the wrist and the lightness of it

i prefer the black bay 54 because it doesn’t have the red colouring on the bezel pip. Size wise I tried on the bb 58 on my 16.5cm wrist and it was fine.

I prefer bb58 as my wrist size isn’t big. So, it looks better as compared to the other.
