Title: Rolex new hairspring-Syloxi and Patek Philippe new hairspring-Spiromax
Post by: Cocas on October 02, 2016, 06:09:17 AM
Rolex new hairspring-Syloxi and  Patek Philippe  new hairspring-Spiromax.

Both were invented about the same time and using the same type , technique, and material.

Understand they are the results of both companies joint research on hairspring.

But anyone can share opinion on which hairspring is better?

Thanks.

Rolex balance wheel + its Breguet-Overcoil hairspring cost about RM1439 for Rolex 1601 movement.

But silumin material has weaknesses that are not suitable to be used in tool watch.

1. Lower strength at high temperature than steel.
2. More unfavorable thermal expansion index than steel.

The above could be the key reasons why Rolex does not use its latest Syloxi hairspring in their man watch and tool watch.

Disclaimer: this is just my guess and hypothetical assumption.
