Members' Pre-Owned Watches / Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe 38mm
« Last post by shanky0 on Today at 11:58:48 AM »
Helping a friend to sell.

Blancpain is often credited with the creation of the world's first dive watch, i.e. the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms in 1953. It set the blueprint for all divers, i.e. high contrast dials for maximum legibility underwater, unidirectional rotating bezel, 12 o'clock triangle at bezel, self winding (automatic), lumed plots, markers and hands,  soft-iron inner case to increase magnetic resistance, double sealed crown for water resistance.

The original Blancpain Bathyscaphe was introduced in 1956 as the civilian complement to the more professional Fifty Fathoms. It came in a smaller size and was targeted toward the recreational diving market. Blancpain tragically stopped production of its Fifty Fathoms diver for decades despite its illustrious history and contribution to the watch world. It was only revived recently in 2007. The new Bathyscaphe 38mm was relaunched in 2013, combining a number of features from the original Bathyscaphe with modern dive watch technology to result in a watch that is clearly a tribute without being a simple rerelease.

There are 2 versions, 43mm and 38mm. Mine is 38mm which is more faithful to the vintage size. The design of the watch is more dressy than your average diver, it has an elegant and minimalist look. It has a mesmerising sunray vibrant blue dial which captivates with its depth and allure, creating a striking contrast against the luminous hands and hour markers. The date window is colour matched at 4.30 o'clock, inconspicuous yet legible. This is a superbly versatile watch, a true GADA that can an one watch collection on its own, being equally at home in the boardroom and swimming with the fishes in the deepest ocean.

Dont be fooled by its dressy look as it has the technical specification of a full professional diver. This watch has an incredible 300m of water resistance while being extremely thin at 10.8mm, which easily slides undernealth any shirt sleeve. Its powered by Blancpain's own caliber 1150, well finished with a twin barrel configuration with power reserve of 100 hours and keeps time well above COSC certification. The rotor is made from 18k gunmetal-tone solid-gold rotor (gold being one of the heaviest gold helps to wind the watch faster).

The condition of the watch is immaculate and like new.

You need to check your tracking number provided to you by FedEx. It will inform you if its being held in Customs pending payment of tax if its that case. At this point in time, just stay calm and just wait for a phone call by FedEx staff, they will inform you the estimated tax payable as well as whether you want FedEx to handle the tax clearance on your behalf, they will charge you RM50 for it which is worth it IMHO.

You will need to check whether the correct tax amount had been charged. Sometimes Malaysian customs use their own value of the worth of the watch instead of what you actual pay for. Be ready to be able to give FedEx team the supporting documents, e.g. the actual invoice for the watch purchase, screenshot of how much you paid from your credit card statement etcs.

Good luck and enjoy your watch. Do post here for all the members to appreciate it, must be an awesome watch for you to import from Geneva.

Thank you for the information. And when using FEDEX, from your experiences, they would send you an invoice of tax to pay before making delivery right?
