Title: Any Great Lume Watches Out There?
Post by: kram45 on February 16, 2022, 06:04:07 AM: Excluding those quartz watches (where you press a button and the dial lights up - using battery power), are there any watches that truly shine through the night?

Years ago, using nuke paint, they did a fair job, but still not to my satisfaction. Today, many watches will initially glow brightly but then quickly fade down. My old eyes are needing nighttime assistance.

I'm looking for something that can provide 7+ year long usable lighting.

Post by: dexson on February 16, 2022, 07:14:49 AM: Seiko diver with new gen Lumibrite will never fail you. Look for the ones that has slight greenish tint when not glowing, eg those on mm300 or sla037..043 etc..

Their white based ones are still good but not as good as the above.

If you want the maximum brightness, dont get any watch with ecru (fake patina) color lume. You want the lume pigment to be as pure as possible.

Out of curiosity; why the need to have glowing dials at night?

smallish (36-40mm)
plain face / no complications
newspaper colors (black or white)

Seiko's have great lumes! So many series and types, just gotta find one that fits the budget.

Post by: miniman on February 25, 2022, 12:01:59 PM: My Seiko gen 2 Monster and Tuna SBBN035 300m has very good lume. Some of the newers Seiko's like my SPB187 isn't as good. If you constant glow check out tritium tubes like Marathon watches. Tritium glows constantly but isnt as bright like Lumibrite or Superluminova.
