Title: 116610 vs 116610LN
Post by: Sheng on January 17, 2011, 03:07:48 PM
Dear forum members,

I recently come across different comments about the Rolex Submariner's (ceramic bezel) prices, some people say it's RM23-24k and some say RM27-28k
What's the difference between 116610 vs 116610LN? What are the new features and did they change calibre?

Thank you

No change in calibre. Only difference are the maxi dial, glidelock clasp like those on the deepsea and ceramic inserts. The lume is also blue instead of green.

are you talking about 16610 vs 116610?

116610 is 116610LN the prefix LN just stand s for Lunette Noir or the direct translation would be "Dark Glasses" where as the LV or Lunette Verde "Green Glasses" .. Spectacles or Glasses is called "lunettes" in French

the movement for both 16610 and 116610 is the same calibre 3135.

other than the changes in lume colour, maxi dial, maxi case and new bracelet.. the calibre is the same.

i think one particular member here that i know of can tell you more...he have both the 16610 and 116610

sheng, i have seen both with me. 116610 was the first batch of subC i received. 116610LN are the new batch.
to me aesthetically and physically looks the same, i'm pretty sure the calibre is the same too.

as for what GMAC88 mentioned, i think that's the difference between subC 116610 and old sub 16610.

The differences between 16610 vs 116610LN  are

1. Bezel. "CERACHROM" ceramic bezel on the 116610
2. Hairspring spring. 116610 uses blue parachrom hair spring
3. Dial. maxi dial on 116610
4. Hands. Fatter hands on 116610
5. Clasp. 116610 fitted with Glidelock clasp
6. Watch case. 116610 casing is more squarish
7. Date cyclops. The cyclops on 116610 is coated with an anti-reflective coating
8. Lume. Blue lume on 116610 and green lume on 16610

And finally, there is a huge difference in price.  :-\

don't give me wear the tall hat... i am just an enthusiast like anyone here. If you hv not pointed out, I alwiz thought Sub-C is using 3136 calibre becoz of what they did to GMT2c.

Thank you for the explanations and response guys. May i clarify another thing?

I was suspecting the price difference between RM23-24k and RM27-28k
Is it the 116610 is RM23-24k and the 2010 new model is RM27-28k?
According to Rolex website it states the 2010 model has uni-directional bezel and platinum numeral inset on the ceramic bezel. Is it a even newer 116610 model? I'm really confused with the 2 sets of prices  ???

116610 -116610LN it's the same watch.

all subs, in fact all dive watches irregardless of brands have uni directional bezel.

you must get your head around the model numbers.

16610 is not 116610
116610 is 116610LN
16610LV is the predecessor to the current 116610LV

prices varies...just google up the MRSP and work your sums.

correction: bi-directional bezel on the 2010 model
ok i got it 116610LN, but did they come out with a newer edition of the 116610LN?

there is no bi-directional bezels for all dive watches for safety purposes unless it incorporates some kind of locking mechanism to prevent accidental rotation of the bezel.

the GMT and the Yatchmaster and watches are bidirectional. there is no newer edition of the 116610 the 116610 is already the latest version of the Submariner.

Only contemporary diver watches bezel are uni-direction. Some of the 60s and 70s diver watches are bi-directional. I can't say for old Subs.

I think the easy way to remember this is using the common names like old sub and new sub or the sub with ceramic bezels or green sub with ceramic bezels. Also, not to confuse the sales assistant. Not all of them can remember the model numbers even the common ones. Sometimes they can give u wrong info and prices. For us,  those numbers and letters will stick once "you know them better" :)

Would be kinda dangerous for divers if the bezel was bi-directional.. :p imagine miscalculating 5 minutes of air something, though I'm sure they don't rely on just the watch for that.. :p

Old Tudor subs have bi-drectional bezel. However it has the 'push down to unlock bezel' locking mechanism.

LN refers to Black Bezel
LV refers to Green Bezel
GV refers to Green Glass, such as 116400 GV Milgauss

I think they are referring to a Sub and Sub Date in this case.
For a Sub (114060), price is RM23-24k and for the range between RM27-28k, it shud be a Sub Date (116610).
