Informal Grand Seiko/JDM Seiko Owners Gathering Oct 12 2013
« on: October 12, 2013, 05:59:13 PM »
In view of the rising GS fever in MWF, God knows why, a few of the senior (as in length of membership, not status) MWF members who are long time GS enthusiasts decided to meet up informally to discuss this new phenomenon..

Another catalyst was the fact that out of the total worldwide production of the recently launched 300 pieces Limited Edition Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Spring Drive 'tuna', a highly sought after model by GS/JDM Seiko enthusiasts around the globe, an astonishing 4 pieces ended up on our MWF members wrists. (To put this into perspective, only 2 were released in Malaysia, 4 in Singapore, 4 in Thailand, 200 in Japan which was all fully sold out, the rest scattered throughout US, Europe, Asia,etc)...Malaysia boleh maaaa.......

At an earlier gathering this year the 4 of us had agreed to order this model the moment it was launched , however due to the very low allocation given to each dealer, no dealer could fulfill our request. Hence each of us had to embark on our own quest to hunt this piece down one by one from every dealer in the region we could locate....

To celebrate our joy and success, the 4 of us decided to get together for a wrist shot of these hard to find Marinemasters tunas. Subsequently, the other GS/Seiko enthusiasts got to hear of it and wanted to join in. A huge thank you to everyone who came to support this informal lunch gathering where we all know each other from the many earlier MWF gtgs. We all had an awesome time so much so that 5 hours seems too short and if not for our committments to take our other halfs for dinner, we might have stayed back even later. One the of our members actually had to leave early in order to catch his flight to Korea. Such is the passion abt horology and watches, the single common denominator that binds all of us together.
Ganbatte...

My apologies for some of the shots being oof.. Too little time and too many watches, too much hurry...

The group watches shot...many of the watches here are Limited Editions and or rare vintages which you won't see by walking in to Seiko or Grand Seiko stores.

The guilty GS/JDM Seiko enthusiasts....just look at the 'lansi' look from most of them... Natasha excluded of coz...

Talking through lunch the whole afternoon in the Japanese restaurant wasn't enough for this hardcore group.. they insisted on continuing at San Francisco coffee for another 2 hours talking abt what else but GS and JDM Seikos..... mad folks

The catalyst of this gathering.. the 4 amigos' Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Spring Drive gold tuna SBDB008... let's see which other watch forum has more members who managed to get this highly sought after Limited Edition of 300 worldwide (200 in Japan, 100 ROW)  Malaysia Boleh, MWF lebih boleh.......

True WIS who will not let their watches be exposed to any dangers.....esp acidic stuff

Great pictures.

But I like the last pic best. These shows your GS is more precious than anything else.

Seriously, I am now looking at these GS in a different light.

dc
I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

I'm no expert but is it becoz this Seiko monster like the Presage 100th Ann Limited Edition, although Made in Japan are also distributed for sale outside Japan whereas strictly JDM models are actually Made in Japan for sale only in Japan (hence Japan Domestic Market only-JDM) however they are acquired through the regular Japan online dealers?

Having said that the Prospex Marinemaster Spring Drive tuna is not strictly JDM as it was made available in very limited numbers for sale outside Japan. Should I then change the title of the gtg to Grand Seiko/JDM & Limited Edition Seiko gtg then.... :Laughing_on_floor: Must be careful in choosing my titles in future. MWF members are too sharp, ready to challenge any inconsistencies...  :Blue:

Anyway I didn't bring my other Made in Japan Seiko's too as the intention was to mainly share those hard to find models, not easily seen at our local Seiko Ads...

To all the participants who posted up their very kind remarks and thanks on this gtg, I'd like to sincerely say that thanks should go to each and every participant for their presence, cooperation, participation and sharing of their knowledge on this excellent hobby of ours.

That each and everyone brought interesting and unique GS/JDM Seikos that the rest of us have never seen before especially in the metal, made the event even more special and memorable.
The excellent camaraderie could easily be felt throughout the gtg due to each and every one of you contributing your part. I was merely the coordinator.

Looking forward to our next gtg...the JLC theme

perhaps Jason should have brought this rare custom hand assembled and modified 'snow monster'

Other Monsters even Limited Editions are not so hard to get but this........this is truly special....costing several times a normal Monster

bead blasted bezel & case, re-fitted with the latest hacking, winding and carefully calibrated 4R36 movt with an S engraved and beadblasted crown then coupled to a custom hand-made leather strap to match the look of the snow face...

Great gtg guys.
And 4 golden tunas  :Dancing_banana:
