The Rolex Ref. 1680 is an all-time classic, perfect for any occasion.
The world of watches was never the same after the Submariner debuted in 1953. In the decades that have passed, the world-famous dive watch has inarguably become one of the most iconic and desirable watch models ever made. Rolex has updated and changed the Submariner over time as well. One of the biggest changes came with ref. 1680, a watch that came out in the late 1960s, and featured a date window. Rolex initially made these watches with the "Submariner" text in red. Rolex switched to all-white text on the dial in the mid-1970s, just like the example we have here.
This example is in honest condition and has a beautiful overall aesthetic, with all-matching lume that has aged to a slightly off-white creamy color. This watch is from 1979, and is one of the later four-digit Submariners before ref. 16800 replaced it in the late 1970s.

This Submariner is in good, honest condition. The case has some scratches from the usual desk diving but nothing that can’t be polished off. The bevels on the case are mostly visible and the case is probably unpolished.
The dial and hands are in great condition. The hands show signs of light oxidation. The lume on the hands and dial are all matching in colour or which is makes this watch super investible. The bezel insert is in great condition. The bracelet clasp is stamped “V8,” corresponding to 1996, indicating it is a replacement. It was common for Rolex to replace bracelets during service due to them being stretched out and worn. The bracelet is all intact with very minimal stretch (90%) and very minor scratches. The crystal has light scratches that can be polished off. The movement is performing 0 to +1 second a day and the power reserve is as per original spec at 48 hours beating at a 19,800 bph as opposed to the modern day movements at 28,800 bph. The movement has been inspected is in a fantastic condition and does not need service in the near future.
The fact of the matter is that Rolex in the 70’s were one of the last handmade Rolex, and therefore show more craft. The demand for a watch in this beautiful condition will only go up as seasoned collectors acquire and keep them indefinitely.
The pictures doesn’t do justice to this beauty, feel free to meet up to have a closer look and appreciate the watch.
