slightly off topic, but i do wonder though....

prices are going up and this scarcity thing seems to me quite artificial. what happens later in the year when recession really gets acknowledged and markets drop further, leading to demand and discretionary spending going down with it?

Do these companies stick with the price tag and just destroy surplus stock end of the season? do they dump onto the secondary market? do they sneakily tell their ADs its ok to give more than 15% discount?

I think discounts on Tudor depends on the model and who you're dealing with.

While browsing the ADs at Pavillion, the SA are mostly cocky and snobbishly rub off any idea of a discount but the one I got my blue Pelagos still gave me a little off.

For Tudor, I think it’ll just be business as usual. Maybe no wait at all, and some discount. Instead of having waiting list. Tudor has been doing better and better since they came back. Launching pieces that people want. I doubt they need to go to the path of destroying stock. I don’t think Rolex will be back in stock anytime soon at ADs.

Yeah agree, I think even with the recession demand will still be more than supply, but if it corrects itself, they'll probably let SA give a little discount to get things moving

Tudor new launches last 2-3 years has been rather exciting - it is like a little secret where Rolex can test and do things they cannot with their main brand and push the envelope further. I will say in a few years down the line - the undercurrent for Tudor will be the hot new thing when wearing a Rolex can become either too much or too dangerous. It's a beater watch that you can go around and not get too much attention or mistaken for the expensive cousin.

The watches they released from watches and wonders kinda shows how they can do their own thing away from Rolex, like releasing the BB54 with a 37mm dial for a diver.

But then they also released a Tudor with a jubilee bracelet so maybe still a rolex homage brand?

i sense Tudor is stamping out its own unique identity and not the cheaper Rolex as it was known in the past. So it can move around freely in sizing, materials and also going back to the older Rolex design , in short very experimental and bold - Rolex is becoming institution but the Tudor is the exciting frontier ahead.

Tudor is indeed a high quality watch, in the past Rolex was innovative / taking more risks to try ‘things’ more creative than their classic line Rolex,  for the last 10 years their reissues trend show a lack of creativity/ new image appeal;
Surfing on their past models was nice for a while…

Insane times. You used to be able to walk into Tudor and get a Black Bay with the your colour choice. Perhaps they are replicating big brother's sales tactic.

i think recession or not, the demand will be here to stay in the long run. Rolex prices will go up and stabilize as they ramp up capacity to catch up with demand, but that also means that Tudor will follow suit. As long as there as people like you and me who will dish out the dough to put little fancy clocks on our wrists, the market will be around.

We all know Rolex makes about a million watches per year. Not sure how many Tudor makes.

At the population growth rate and as brand awareness grows, demand will always exceed supply. So it’s safe to assume both brands will grow stronger and continue to be strong value propositions to new buyers as well.

Although there have been reports of boost in production capacities, the market will still be strong for both brands. More so if you consider that Rolex models are still relatively low priced compared to most other major brands.

walked in to Harrods in 2022. asked about the BB Harrods and was told the usual long waiting list story. we exchanged numbers. 2 weeks later, he texted me and said they had a cancellation and so my watch is ready to be collected. Told him to hold for me for another 2 weeks and he did.

Artificial wait list? Up to you to decide.

Anyway, once it's on my wrist it doesn't look nor feel as what I was expecting (only had experience with a Pelagos LHD, which was equally disappointing as well).

I think buyers are passing over Tudor faster than the Rolex queues. The flipping profit is no longer there. Every Tudor model that was hyped before and during initial release have come down to below retail price after a few months.

I think Tudor will still be under Rolex and will always be. Love that brand but can’t justify myself to buying one yet

I think Tudor will still be under the shadow of Rolex, even though they tried to come out of it
