Starfish Monster - quick & dirty shots
« on: June 25, 2010, 03:39:03 PM »

I hope there's no Seiko fans from the other forum....  :-X

When Yeoman first posted these on his blog here http://yeomanseiko.wordpress.com/2010/05/15/seiko-starfish-diver-skz283k, the Seiko divers community were divided. Some liked it, some called it down right ugly.

I was one of those who didn't have good things to say. I think I said something to the effect off, I wasn't feeling the weird looking bezel.  But to be diplomatic, I said I would reserve judgement until I saw one in the flesh.

This afternoon I went to my regular shop on official Seiko helmet business. As I was about to leave, the regular guy I deal with asked me why I hadn't asked about the new "just taken out of the box" divers and pointed to the display. He had a SS version and a PVD version. The SS version was cheaper by a few hundred.

I looked at the price tag and complaint that the prices of these divers were increasing by the year. Ridiculous! Even with the regular discounts I get, the PVD version would still be above the 1K mark. I prefer to save up for my Orange Velatura. (Orange dial, PVD and long legs, 3 things that I'm attracted to)  ;D

He took a calculator, started crunching some numbers and said "Your price", showing me the figures on the calculator.  I bargained somemore (just to be kiasu)  ;D

The end result is Kaching!!! Always hard to turn away from a good deal and that's why I'm a poor man.  :'(

Some quick and dirty shots. Lume after walking into the office lobby.

The Seiko Starfish Monster joins my collection. Following me to PD this weekend perhaps.

This will be my FINAL purchase (for the year).  Beh tahan liao. :P

U guys have a great weekend.

Cheers.

Hi Adrian,
Amongst us die hard collectors that's the most commonly uttered resolution and yet the hardest to keep. Just remember we have another 6 months to go before year end. Good luck!

Seriously speaking, that's a great looking Seiko diver. It reminds me of a Nubeo... but on second thoughts it seems more like a Monster with a new bezel design. Works for me.

By the way congrats on your last acquisition for the year.

Had the same initial impression as you did which prompted me to opt for the regular monster for my first seiko instead of the starfish diver. now having looked at it properly, i might have to reassess my view. Great purchase by the way
