Buying Rolex from AD
« on: August 07, 2009, 10:12:03 AM »
Hi all, I am looking to purchase my first Rolex possibly a Explorer 2 or Submariner.

My question is whats the difference of buying it from AD like Wata Time, Hour Glass versus buying from places like Time Pacific which offer lower price for a new Rolex?

Is the warranty the same? Hope someone here can enlighten me. Thanks

Yes. All should be the same if they all have a valid warranty card matches the watch  ;)

When buying your first ever Rolex, always buy from an AD. When compared to unauthorised, the difference in price/s is (are) not worth the purchase.

As you go along and become more confident, go anywhere that fancy you.

My 2 cts worth.

David is right. It is a safe approach. When you get ur 1st Rolex (or 1st expensive watch), obviously u r not familiar with a Rolex. Get it from the AD and know what comes in a full package. Later on, as you getting more familiar with the watch, you can look at other dealers as David suggested

I would agree to all the Xi Fu here  ;)
It is always safer to purchase from an AD ...
However, when comes to a used 1, it is also recommended to do some homework before deciding on which used watch shops to go to ...
Happy hunting !
Don't forget to post some pics after your acquisition

To me, Rolex has to be from AD. I personally came across a Rolex which is perfectly like an original but came out to be fake when sent to authorized repair center. Initially, even the professional thought that piece of Rolex is original. Its  only when they see the movement , they realized its fake!!

You;ll only  have piece of mind  when the watches comes with complicated movement which is hard to duplicate like JLC. Thats my personal view.

If I buy from a personal seller I would meet at the Rolex center and have the watch verified on spot. It is a bit tricky if you buy from a shop. Then it boils down to how much you trust that shop.

Let me put it this way. You have to buy the seller first and later the merchandise.

I once went to a used watch shop and i asked how can i be sure the watch i bought is the real thing.
The owner said they can meet me in the RSC and asked them to authenticate the watch.
If there is a fee i would bear it.
I am perfectly fine with that should i was really ready to buy it.
