Nah. The ref 666 was created in the late 50s. The genta design came around late 70s or early 80s.
Total different approach and cultures. Practical design with in-house movement vs. Avant Garde look with ETA caliber.
I prefer the old IWC Ingenieur for this matter.

Not sure why no big pilot owner posting their collection yet.
Anyway, I passby IWC boutique recently. So happened to try out two new models of big pilot which are very nice i must say.
IWC top gun big pilot. Made of ceramic which makes it much lighter than normal bp. I must say that i really like this. However, 48mm is a bit too big for my wrist i must say. Wrist shot looks slightly bigger. I will say that i will prefer it to be traditional 46mm.
This is big pilot top gun miramar. Very nice too i must say. Again, ceramic dial and a whopping 48mm. But probably because this is made of ceramic and despite its gigantic size, the wear is quite comfortable i must say. Strongly suggest you guys to check them out.

Concur..that is why I kept it for 4 freaking long years

My passion for IWC started about six years ago when I acquired my first watch - a Pilot Chronograph 3717. Thereafter, I had the good luck of visiting the Manufacture at Schaffhausen and I was simply blown away by the wonderful small town and the iconic site of the Manufacture along F.A. Jones Weg. The people there were super friendly and you could tell from the small town that they were truly proud of their Swiss-German roots and everywhere you went, there would be small antique watch stores selling expensive curiosities from a distant time before.
Since then, I have also acquired the iconic Aquatimer 2000 in titanium and more recently, the Ingenieur ceramic. I've joked with a friend of mine that I foresee myself eventually getting the complete IWC model offering: I just need to get a Da Vinci, a Portugese (grail watch) and a Portofino to then truly declare myself a full IWC owner! Hopefully, I'll be able to realize my dream of this within the next few years.
Thanks for reading and you may call me a mad-cap IWC fan.
Cheers!

Wow, I am very impressed and you are truly a hard core IWC fan mate.
Yeah, one dealer told me before the interesting story of Schaffhausen. Once upon a time almost the entire town worked for IWC. Never been there before. Hope that I am able to go to SIHH next year or the year after. Will definitely wanna visit IWC, VC, AP and PP.

I feel like the recent IWC release is getting far far away from its roots. I find that older IWC models are still better. Seems like it became of the many watches in the market. Nothing unik about it :(

Well, part and parcel when the com goes public or taken over by conglomerate. Shareholders want the number. thats why watch nuts still preferred family owned wrist makers.

i also find iwc produces many variations / limited edition like omega. i prefer the rolex way.

I for one wont go for any of those limited edition. Some time, some of them can even produce some limited edition for a new boutique opening. Guess its part and parcel of their commercial strategy. But i wont go for any of those "lim ed" piece which u may only able to tell by flipping the bottom. :Laughing_on_floor:

Actually some of the boutique limited edition had far wrose movement than the regular production movement :o

really? not quite sure about that though. I for one wont buy a regular look limited edition.

i just refering to pam because pam and iwc are under the same hood....
-
So, VC, JLC and Piaget will be in the same 'hood' since they are all in Richmond? :shocked1:
Anyway, I do see that VC is dying slowly in the hands of Richmond. It used to be probably no. 2 (just perception and nothing too scientific about this) among the hological trilogy but seems like AP is taking its no 2 spot and if VC is not doing something about it, it will soon suffer the same fate as Breguet.
-
according to ur corollary rolex, omega dan lain lain jam tangan swiss also under same "hood" since they made in swiss?

Lol, since when is Omega and rolex were into the discussion. All i was referring about "under the hood" is that IWC and Pam are under the same parent company Richemont. I just mentioning that as per quote below
i also find iwc produces many variations / limited edition like omega. i prefer the rolex way.

that Richemont had similar strategy on IWC by issuing "limited edition" watches as to Panerai too. I was just saying some of the panerai limited edition (eg pam318) were created just to for the sake of feeding the ppl desire for limited edition. IWC also in past few years also starting to release those "limited edition" watches which i found like i said in one of the post getting away from its root, its newer release doesnt impress me in my opinion (personal preference). Just curious about what they will come out with the new AMG Ingenieur range next year.

Just curious why do you say so, its good to explain abit lor. I don really hear much about VC these days. ??? I guessed your statement that family owned company in product offering are better than public owned company is quite true :o
-
well, as i said, its just public perception and nothing too scientific about. U see VC boutique in KL plaza closed down quietly several years ago. VC used to be top preference among super rich chinese cos its one of the earliest high end watch maker entering china. Some 5-10 years ago, chinese buyers go to KL will look for either Bo Jie Biao or Jiang Shi Dan Ton. But these days, they prefer PP or piaget more.
It has been suffering similar fate in most parts of asia as far as i know. U can notice that from its resell market value and demand from auction houses such as sotheby, christie or antiquorum. So much so until one VC sale, when i asked her should I choose overseas or offshore, she even told me may be offshore if u prefer sports watch. :Laughing_on_floor:
From what i see, VC is kind of following the path of Breguet. I mean nothing wrong with these two brands. They were and still are one of the greatest watch makers. But afterall, i said that again and will again, watch companies are more of a marketing companies these days. So marketing and marketing is freaking important and without which it will just get irrelevant. One of the autioneer has been saying that brand like roger dubuis and hublot (i personally just dislike this brand) have been going strong lately due to the great marketing effort and budget.
Also, I see that VC doesnt have much break through and has been relying on its legacy. Also, I participated in several watch blogs globally and seems that most purists will prefer AP over VC these days. be it asian or gwei lou. Of course as i said, this is just preception and nothing scientific about it.
Whether its family held or owned by corporation doesnt really bother me (again personally i think company held notion is just a marketing gimmick from those com held watch maker). By way of analogy, nike is no longer a shoes maker these days but more of a marketing company now. Most of its design and manufacturing has been outsourced and its main task now is just to market the shoes. i think watch makers are pretty much similar. Just that they are still making watches (but we have no ideal how many percent being made by them).

I guess if by selling it to their AD means sold out, I have no shadow of doubt that they have hit their target every year. Afterall, 19,000 pieces per year is way lesser than its arch rival, AP and PP.
A friend of mine has been asking me to go for a limited edition two tone overseas dual time since early this year. Last week when we went to the boutique, we still managed to see the piece there. as i said, VC used to be mainland chinese only love (beside piaget) last time. But PP and Rollie have been going strong. More and more mainlanders reckon that PP is a 'better watch' and 'more high class' than VC. I have no shadow of doubt that VC is making impeccable watch. However, I for one believe in market force and i wont get too happy if i know my watch has very low resell value. I think VC has to stride harder if it wants to stay competitive among the holy trilogy.

I've actually been saving up since I started my collection with omega Seamasters and planet oceans. Gradually bought a bell & Ross just to find out that FJ Benjamin inflated their damned prices in Malaysia. :Scolding:

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing these, David. I just can't get enough of all the IWC dna in there. The size is also just nice. It's not just the case and name which they retain for this classic model, but they displayed all the technical aspect of IWC in this watch, from the shock-absorbers to the pellaton winding system which are uniquely. It's IWC in and out.
There's something very fundamental about his calibre and this package as whole that is disturbingly attractive, and as you put it, seems to have its own attraction. Anyone can do a 3 hand watch but what a 3 hand watch this is! Cheers!

never owned a aquatimer, should be easy to remove spring bar and change any other 3rd party leather/rubber strap, bracelet should be harder..
i'd recomm isofrane rubber strap

David, this aquatimer came with quick release gasp,so no spring bar were use(which i hope it's spring bar will be more easier),so to change the strap might need the converter for any after market straps... :Blue:

No idea yet, even the website has not been updated yet with this model. Seems like the brochure is the official 'leak' for some of the models. This one was under the radar.

Why are all new Inges missing the graph paper dial?

Yes, it should be identical to the current Titanium Dual Time.

Why are all new Inges missing the graph paper dial?
Hmm, true. But traditionally, Inge in the 60s doesn't have that texture dial to begin with. Appraising to historical models is a good way of cutting cost :P

Tried on the new Aquatimer.
The Internal bezel is fun to play with. It snaps to the minute, so no in between. Because the index is IN the glass and close to the dial, it is more precise than external bezel (I'm not a diver, so I'm not sure if this matters or not, but it is a cool device still). Because it is operated externally via the bezel-grip, one need not take off his fingers to continue the rotation. I was playing with it for minutes. I'd say its a bit more convenient than the traditional crown operated internal bezel.
The rubber strap is very very soft, with the quick change system to the bracelet. Surprisingly, I find that appealing. for someone like me who doesn't like rubber to begin with (Mmmm, soft rubber, almost like not wearing anything). But logic will tell you to get the bracelet first and buy the rubber strap later, to save more.
Overall, built quality is good, but the design may not appeal to all. The brush surface is nice, and most likely will be a scratch magnet. The caseback is solid and totally flat, so it sits very well on the wrist.
What I find appealing is the size. at 42mm it is nice for everyday wear and for smaller wrist like mine. Pricey though for an ETA/ Sellita movement (though reliable), but then again, a watch is not just about the movement, its the entire package. And this package is nice!

i quite like the look of this new aquatimer, much more thn the previous design
just dont understand y IWC always change their watch design

Yes I have the same feeling too. I think they are finding the right design balance :) They can't go on changing design all the time for many models. it is gonna be very cost inefficient.

I love the style of IWC, problem is I am not sure if my other half will let me get a Montblanc as she claims they're too similar...
In a way yes, but it's still blasphemy!

Volvo Yacht Club
Both are nice and well received among fan-boys out there.
The Blue dial on the LP Big Pilot is impressive and makes the 46mm even louder. I've nothing against it but it is just not my cup of tea. Mainly because of the fonts which I feel is overpowering and in addition to the sunburst blue dial. I'd still settle for the standard 5009 BP.
The Yacht Club however is more to my liking. It is perhaps the best iteration of this model. Shame that it's a limited edition as I feel that the blue hands and indices works very well against the silver dial.
The next piece here takes the cake...
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/IMAG8910_zpsb6aaeac1.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/IMAG8910_zpsb6aaeac1.jpg.html)

The Digital Perpetual Calender AT is at 49mm and 19mm thick. If you like rubber next to gold and lucky enough to be one of the 50 to own this piece, then you're blessed with bold taste and a deep wallet.
Back to sanity...
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/IMAG8939_1_zps1686bfdd.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/IMAG8939_1_zps1686bfdd.jpg.html)
The Metropolitan Portuguese Turbillon, also limited to 50 and a very stylish one indeed. Despite having a gold-olive dial, it was still tastefully done, with a deserving price tag...
The one that really attracted me is this...

What do you think, too big? :P
The new AT 2000 titanium is at 46mm and 20mm thick (thanks to the exceptionally thick front crystal shown above). Wears like one of the larger G-shocks as it is rather light, thanks to the materials. Though this was last year's SIHH model, the stock only arrived late last year and it was only recently that I was able to see it in person. Love the dial details and overall built quality. I only wished it is priced like a G-shock...
-
I try the AT2000 yesterday at one of the AD, must said it just too big n too thick to my liking , wish it is 44mm instead ,more wearable.

Dropped by the boutique today to check out the new arrivals. Some of the Portuguese series...
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_114806_zps4rngpo4t.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_114806_zps4rngpo4t.jpg.html)
Let's start of with the much discussed Annual Calender....
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_115408_zpspsp43xjz.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_115408_zpspsp43xjz.jpg.html)
The silver dial

and the favourite blue sunburst dial
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_115429_zpslz8fu6c0.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_115429_zpslz8fu6c0.jpg.html)
difficult to get a good shot of the burst dial...
Maybe my pictures are not doing it much justice, but as always, these pieces looks much better in the metal than the pictures. They're at 44mm, a little larger than the Portuguese Automatic. Somehow contrary to most, I find that the silver dial has a bit more elegance to it (compared to the blue) and the subtle blue PR and second hand is really smart.
Here are my nick-pick points:
1. The date wheel is a gradual change(not really an issue for me) but the day wheel does not change immediately and there's a bit delay between the changing sequence.
2. The look of the new movement is somewhat less regal compared to the previous calibre 50000.
3. The price - though rationally priced between an Automatic and Perpetual Calender, still it makes one think about what else we can get for that kind of money.
Next, is the Digital Perpetual Calender
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_121817_zps3wdchyxa.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_121817_zps3wdchyxa.jpg.html)
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_121843_zps5flqftmk.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_121843_zps5flqftmk.jpg.html)
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_121843_zps5flqftmk.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_121843_zps5flqftmk.jpg.html)
As you can see, this is by no means a small watch. Worth its weight in gold and really meant to be seen.
Another new digital calender is the Stainless Steel version of the Digital PPC Spitfire:
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/IMAG9297_zpsmcykxkmj.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/IMAG9297_zpsmcykxkmj.jpg.html)
Now this is what I really like! The stainless steel version makes it less loud, lighter and very wearable. I think we have a winner here. Not a limited edition, which is great too.
A not so new LE Pilot watch, called The Last Flight St Ex, in BROWN ceramic
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_121958_zpsfz7mzhgb.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_121958_zpsfz7mzhgb.jpg.html)
And last but not least, my favourite discovery for the day is the new smaller Portuguese Yacht Club in 43mm...
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_121322_zpsbnqamtrm.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_121322_zpsbnqamtrm.jpg.html)
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_120535_zpspldrijxd.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_120535_zpspldrijxd.jpg.html)
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_120902_zpsp2vpcpam.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_120902_zpsp2vpcpam.jpg.html)
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv272/sidestreaker/Timepiece/20150321_121642_zpstopkkiol.jpg) (http://s691.photobucket.com/user/sidestreaker/media/Timepiece/20150321_121642_zpstopkkiol.jpg.html)
A very well sized smaller version of the popular Yacht Club and comes in ardoise this time. It fits smaller wrist better with the lug configuration and its cheaper than the previous one too.

Cross post from WRUW thread. Never been a big fan of the brand but this came up and I knew I had to grab it. Fitting as I'm trained in the profession though not practicing.
Bracelet is a bit snug though and I know it's not easy getting an aftermarket strap. Anyone has a 3228 spare link to sell? Would gladly take it for a fee.

Thanks! So far the comments I have got are mixed (from cool to "uncle watch" etc). I guess it's a love it or hate it thing for the Ingenieur with no middle ground.
Thinking of getting a custom leather strap for the Ingy. Anyone has experience with Jacob straps or other strap makers?

Now this is what I really like! The stainless steel version makes it less loud, lighter and very wearable. I think we have a winner here. Not a limited edition, which is great too.
A not so new LE Pilot watch, called The Last Flight St Ex, in BROWN ceramic

And last but not least, my favourite discovery for the day is the new smaller Portuguese Yacht Club in 43mm...

A very well sized smaller version of the popular Yacht Club and comes in ardoise this time. It fits smaller wrist better with the lug configuration and its cheaper than the previous one too.
Your IWC digital calendar photo as shown at the above. I think the dial is special, it somehow turn the hands into rose gold color, though its original color is silver.

Attached are the IWC that I checked. Those hands color seemed rose gold but actually they are silver color. Can any experts here help to clear my doubts? Thanks.

asimo did you try any of those on? Which is your favourite?
-
yes.. i tried the new mark 18 ... personally i like the white dial.... the black is quite normal ...similar as most pilot
inspired watches out there...both the black and white is a bit tool-ish look..which a Pilot suppose to be..
the blue gives a different appearance ...more dressy... white is captivating. .. over years..the dial may fade..and give
a creamy appearance  ;D

The LPP is gorgeous but quite difficult to find! Is it selling at a premium or same price as the normal 3777?

Hi, Bro KKJ, I bought at Swiss Watch Gallery, model no. 377714, it's not selling at premium, same price as the normal 3777 now, now LPP is not limited edition anymore

Hi Bros, this 3777-14 is different from the 3777-06 right? As the 06 I was told is boutique exclusive only

If I am not mistaken the 3777-06 is still available but in very low production and can order from boutique, I saw one 2 weeks ago at IWC Boutique in IFC HK and our Pavillion IWC Boutique can order too
-
I dont think the LPP is a LE anymore. they have removed the applied dials in favour to printed dials.
Not sure why they would do that, but man does it make the 2014 LPP BP more tempting
-
Penang's Swiss Watch Gallery @Paragon is having their clearance sales today, interested parties can go take a look at their 18 watch brands on sale :-)
-
Greeting to all!
I am saving for my first IWC, targeting pre-own 3717, hope by Christmas if everything go smooth.
Do keep the thread alive~

Good morning everyone! Here's come my legendary pilot mark 12 ! Born after the legendary caliber 89 military grade mark 11. This is the only mark series that beats with a JLC movement!
