Rolex GMT Pepsi or Rolex Sub 50th Anniversary Edition?
« on: November 27, 2012, 01:05:58 PM »
Hi to all the Sifus! I am a complete newbie when it comes to watches. Have been reading this forum for the past month.
I have a budget of around RM20k. Was looking at Rolex primarily. Due to my 7.5" wrist, i was eyeing the Deepsea, but gave up once I found out the price!

Recently I was offered by a friend of mine, his GMT Pepsi or Sub 50th AnniversaryEd (green bezel).

Which one would you guys recommend?

Sub LV first and the Pepsi later.

The prices for LV has been rising steadily and there are tons of Pepsi in the market, this prices for Pepsi is quite steady. You can always get it later.

Just my 2 rupiah

The Sub has a black dial with green sub... It's an older model rite? As most of the Green Subs has both green dial & bezel...

What price shud i expect for this pre-owned Sub?

GMT Pepsi....and that's a bias answer cos i just got mine.

But I guess you will need to consider the factors;
- Complete or incomplete
- Condition
- Year
- Price

Pepsi's got an additional complication....so depends on how much you value the GMT function
The Sub LV is iconic too

My advise....try both on your wrist and see which one "sings" to you more

My take:
If this is your 1st rolex sports, take the all black.
Usually pepsi, green, coke or rootbeer is/are our 2nd or 3rd rolie.

With black, not outstanding but all seasons.
With pepsi, it means your are either a collector or love classic, a statement.
With green, a Special edition but hard to be a daily beater.

Thats my opinion, only.

Personally, I won't pay the premium for the 50th anniversary Sub (16610LV). The asking prices for a pre-owned one is now around and some above RM20k. I would suggest going for the "Hulk" 116610V. Newer model, better bracelet and clasp and a stunning green dial. Moreover, the 16610LV is probably about 5 years or older and you'd want to send it for a service which should run above RM2k.

But if you really like the 16610LV and your friend is willing to give you a good deal, why not? Watches rarely sell at their asking prices anyway.

Ermm... then getting a new Sub No Date is also an option now? Cos the Hulk now is almost 30k!

That makes your decision easier then...

if its between the Sub ND and the Pepsi......then the Pepsi still makes a better choice ;D

Forget the Submariner (there is no Sub No Date). You were looking at pre-owned anyway and the 116610LV is around the 25k mark or slightly less when you find one. There are a few out there...

Personally, I find no attachment to a GMT in whatever flavour, even though everyone out there tells me it's as iconic as a black Submariner Date.

The green sub pictured has the yellowish green bezel insert .Some examples I have seen are darker green and looks less conspicuous and more attractive IMO.

My take is take the kermit as this is more collectible than the new hulk or the pepsi

Sub LV yes 50th anniversary but don't forget it is not your everyday Sub. It's a maxi dial Sub. And if you can stand the color green on the bezel then why not. You must like it in order to get one. A Sub is a Sub. I now want a GMT Pepsi. For a budget of 20k u will still have loose change if you so choose the Pepsi. Ask yourself why Pepsi. LV maybe not. Happy problem if you ask me.

Like Terrence said..... there is a lot of preowned Pepsi in the market...
go for Sub LV first then only consider Pepsi or COke along the way.....
Happy hunting bro....
