If you could only buy one watch for the next 7-10yrs and nothing else in between not even a Seiko 5.
What would your choice be?
It actually took me that long to purchase another watch since i got my SD when i was studying overseas and before i found out bout timezone forums and knew the nice members on this forum.
There is only 1 rule which is your choice must be a watch you can realistically afford.
So no Patek Sky Moon when you are only earning RM2k a month haha.... ;D
Well my choice is simple i've always wanted this for more than 10yrs but still no chance yet.

Wanted to add i found this cool vid of a Explorer ad Brad Pitt did for Evance of Japan.
They use to just sell Rolex but now i saw the website they have other brands as well.
I still an un-open Evance watch cleaning cloth which was a free gift in a Japanese magazine i bought in US.

Problem #(1), by the time 2019 (10 years later) i might not be able to buy it with MYR70K anymore. Price will go up and by 2019, i'm sure this timepiece will be a lot more expensive..

Actually the Explorer-1's price increased a lot since 2006...I was offered 10K (after discount) back in late 2006, but now, retail is over 15K i think...the Sub ND already 17.5K.... 10 years later...I really not so sure ;) Anywhere, good choice ;)
Hi N97KL, good choice :) I tried on that once and it wear nice

Ten years ago, I was practically buying everythings (watches) I fancied. Its a want but not necessary a need. First It was all a Rolexes rage, followed by Breitlings, JLC, Cartier, IWC,Tudors, a lot of lesser brand name and whats not, etc - all within my range of budgets.
Now, ten years after, what remains faithful is my Cartier, IWC and Tudor where the rest are being flipped or sold off to re-group my bank balance.
And ten years from now, I would probably stick to something easier - like a simple rolex, ie the Explorer 1 (Yup, Takashi, you are spot on!) an understates watch for all occasion wear.
As for the time being, I would play around with simple mechanical (a homage maybe) time pieces to just my time and ego?
At my time and age, I would go for simple things in life such as good health and good company to chit chat with. Good and nice food and some holidays (is) what I am looking forward to ...in my many years to come.
My 2 cents worth.

Scott,
Actually I would prefer the white face that way the moon is blue
(http://journal.hautehorlogerie.org/IMG/jpg/large-2-1276.jpg)
but since I cant afford either the gold or platinum so forget about that. One thing I feel that this watch is too dressy for a jeans and t-shirt guy like myself :-\
Im afraid it will be kept in the box most of the time and it would be a bitch to get the moon phase corrected every time you wanna wear it
-
White face dial looks much better.
If it comes in white gold then it should match more with the casual look.
-
I find most of the time white dial watches look better in marketing material than real. Whereas black or darker color dials look more consistent. Somehow white dial does not look as sharp in real. Probably, they whiten the photo :)
Do you agree?
-
in this case, Ive seen the real thing in...now I cant remember its gold or platinum. There is no white gold version for this watch (yet?)
the white face looks better. makes the blue moon phase stands out.
-
Hi N79KL, I love the white dial too.. i tried on the black dial and i found it's a bit difficult to read time..
-
this watch is big....
tried my friend's black face, doesn't look nice on my wrist.

Alice bro: Fred.
I can see eye to eye with your selection on VC. My choice is this : picture borrowed

For me, it just have to be the Big Pilot.
-
Tough choice. It'll be a torture to survive with just one time machine.
But if hard pressed, I would probably select the Tudor iconaut for the following reasons:
i) Time function
ii) Chronograph function
iii) GMT function
iv) Date function
v) Automatic movement
vi) Good enough to take for a swim (WR 150m)
vii) Rolex made
viii) ETA 7754 work horse calibre
All in the Tudor has packaged a lot of value into the Iconaut and that's the main reason why it's my preferred choice. The aesthetics is another matter, but I find that the Iconaut design tends to grow on you.

But German brand.. Kind of worry
Hi Lola, Archimede is quite a reputable brand. I've got one of their Pilot watches (http://tamhk.com/mwf/index.php/topic,287.0.html), so I can attest to the quality. However the asking price that you mentioned seems a bit pricey, so make sure you get a good discount.
