Title: Let's see some pics of your favourite Seiko dive watches
Post by: danny on September 07, 2010, 10:21:28 PM
Ok Guys,
As you all know Seiko has one of the widest range of dive watches, and Malaysia is one of the best places to buy Seiko watches, so I believe there are many members here with Seiko divers in their collection. Why not start a visual reference library here on MWF?

Please post your favourite Seiko diver watches here, and where possible please include the model name and reference number.

Here's mine, the Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 300m diver (SBDX001) on a Zulu strap:

Hi ck,
Hmmm, Omega Planet Ocean, Rolex Submariner Date and Seiko Prospex MM... You are a real connoiseur of dive watches.

Bullosa,
Your Seiko 6309-7040 is in tip top condition. Have you had it serviced or restored?

I said this because my friend gave his son a watch (not expensive type, i think seiko cause he dint tell) then one day he showed his friend the watch and then leave it on the floor and got loss. He did not tell his father abt it until his father asked him where the watch. His reaction is just "no feeling" as if nothing had happens.

He actually asked me if it is ok to give him a bola spacemaster to him as an encouragement. I just advice him better not too cause it will be a big problem if he lost the watch again & not to mention he doesn't care about it.  :HammerHead:

That's sloppy of him to take off the watch and then lose it.
Likely that his fren picked it up
Will advise my kiddos not to take it off unless absolutely necessary

Terrence,
That's a unique retro looking Orient. First time for me.

By the way how do you convert the SKX to a GMT style watch?

just change the bezel into a 12 hour marker instead of a minute marker. easier to read a second time zone off it.

not my watch but u get the idea...

just my interpretation of a "GMT" watch

thinking of getting this dial

Terrence,
Thanks for your explanation regarding the GMT mod.

By the way, excellent choice of components. I particularly like th Navigator style dial and leaf style hand.

Do post some pics once the mod is done.

Sorting out the watch boxes and decided to take some quick group shoots of the family. Unfortunately a few family members are still in the Philippines and the Land of the Rising Sun getting some repairs done and will not see those leaving soon.

Some of the members will be shipped out to new owners next week. Some are still looking for new owners. Some will remain.

Only one in the group shots was bought more than a year ago. The other 18 watches only joined the family since April this year.  :P

Thank goodness my trigger happy days are slowly coming to an end and I sense my interest in watches is slowly shifting towards a new direction, or perhaps rather I'm finally realizing my true calling.  :Praying:

Meet the family.

Thanks guys for all ur comments.

@kltime yeah, after taking the photos do feel a little pity to let them go.  ;D I've already flipped some Orients, Citizens, Gs, a PAM and have some others to go perhaps can keep this bunch together until the next incoming and wait for the watch boxes to run out of space.

@duniajam bro, u sure u don't have just about the same no of Seiko divers, if not more?  ;D

@gmac88 most that are being let go have found owners except for the Orange Knight, Orange Frankenmonster and the SKX011J.

@watchtime Oh yes, other than the Seiko divers above, there's still about 20+ pieces of various brands - Mostly Japanese, a few Swiss, German and boutique brands.

Hi Chan,
Great to see your wonderful vintage divers. These watches are practically older than I am. I don't think Seiko is still providing any technical support for these vintage pieces. How do you keep them in such good condition?

Great topic !!! As the Seiko is a prevalent watch, this is a true discussion for the masses !!!

Got the black monster here...getting a bit tired and could use a service (costs about the same to service as to buy a new one!!!)

But here's a couple pics with some straps I made myself...

Hi Danny, I always pay more for a pristine example and wear them with great care. Whenever NOS parts available for sale in foum or bay I will grab it. Other than the cosmetic parts basically seiko movements are built to last ......

200m good enuf for diving

That's true, as even myself doesn't dive to a depth more than 2 meters!  :-[

My bone was with the bezel actually, which is too simplistic and doesn't resemble a normal dive watch at all.

Had my first visit to the Amcorp Mall flea market today (no thanks to Broleo for the unwanted information ). As I can no longer afford expensive Swiss-made watches (at least I keep telling myself that fact :Praying:), the only pieces that I could lay my hands onto are the Seikos. Hence this 7002-7001:

It comes with this rubber strap.

As I'm not that keen on a rubber strap, I put it on a Nato:

The other piece that I brought back home is this 6139-6005. I know it's not a diver as the thread title suggests, but post it here nonetheless as I'm too lazy to start another thread. If I'm not mistaken, Scottchung also got the same piece albeit a lil' bit different.

Is the white inner bezel an aftermarket as it's said that the gold-coloured dial originally came with gold-coloured inner bezel?

 ... like this one?

I look at the back case, and it's written 688172. Does it mean that it's manufactured in 1972?

Did a little research and found this:

Nice pepsi you got there bro.

The serial number: 688172
1st number is the production year
2nd is the month
   Jan-Nov (1-9). Oct-Dec (O=Oct, N=Nov, D=Dec)
Four last digit is the watch production number

So, the watch production is
1976
August
8172 (production)

fistball,

Is there a possibility that your post has been wrongly parked? I note that there's another thread on Chong Wei's watch.

This is mine...6309-7040 from 1980. Fully restored (case refinish, AR sapphire crystal, movement service, gaskets etc) but with a subtle custom (red tip on seconds, blue/green lume). Good to go for another 30 years!

Photos sent to me from the restorer when it was done, will get a wrist shot at some point

BTW, had a look at your Seiko collection and found that a 6139 is still missing. Don't fancy it huh?

The restorer did a fantastic job on your watch. Do you have any pics of the watch in its original state, before restoration?
It will make a nice comparison I think.

Quality-wise, I think the MM300 is actually nicer than the old generation subs.  Better bracelet, better case finishing, better hands, dial is comparable, 8L35 movement is as nice or nicer than 3135.  Price-wise, MM300 is only 1/3 - 1/2 the price of an old Sub.  Amazing.

The new generation subs have surpassed the MM300 in most ways, but then they are something like US$7,000+, even for a used one.

I have an A-Series 16600 which I absolutely love (the current models are generally a bit too flashy for my tastes), I'd never sell it, but I doubt I'd ever buy another Rolex.

G'day Yoda, I was a member of SCWF.  I think I've been banned now, for speaking my mind during the Pete26 / Giorgio watch fiasco.  Pete is a good guy, and it was shameful the way everybody piled on against him.  I haven't tried to log in since.

But I don't want to bring other forum politics to this forum.  I'm just happy to finally be a member of a good forum which is based in the same timezone as I am.

Yeah you are right not all the SRP

309 is made in Japan, those with J at the end of the product code is made in Japan

But the monster is not a JDM considered international model

I got my J model from our neighbouring country

Now the series numbering make sense. Thanks for the lesson.

One more silly question, do the new shark teeth monster have JDM or LE version? I know "old" monster had blue, red, yellow, snow LE, also JDM night monster series & trek monster series. But do sarlacc enjoy these treatment? Or maybe it is too new for morphing.

In my limited knowledge, I only know 5 SRP monster, the black, orange, sunburst, dracula & black orange.

Brother no such thing as silly question. I am watch silly also.
As far as I know when I was in Japan recently Monster is not display at the counter so I think its not a JDM. To further prove that if you check the Seiko Japan website for the model its not there also which only shows the JDM. In addition when I was in Japan I ask them where I can get SRP309J the retail assistant said this is in International Market model not avavilable here.

I have seen a few limited edition Monster mostly in the Thailand market. I think you may get some Blue, Yellow Monster and all kinds of monsters in Thailand if your are lucky.

I saw one orange monster with complete PVD black which is also a LE but all sold out.

Hmm, I think all the monster you mentioned above are 1st generation monster, where they have square minute markers, grooved crown, 7S26 movement, aka SKX series.

The PVD orange monster (also 1st Gen.) is a JDM version, coded SZEN001, if I got my info right.

Your Orange Monster shown in the picture is a 2nd Gen., aka new monster, some people call them shark teeth, or sharp teeth, even sarlacc (star war references). It has a better 4R36 movement which hack and hand-windable, a cleaner dial with 5 minutes marker removed and a knurled crown. Also not to forget the shark-tooth like minute markers.

This side by side picture can give you a good indication where's your limit (if the size of a watch could be an issue to you).
