Der Dopplechronograph

A long time friend came down from KL today and brought this with him.

Manage to take a few rough shots with my phone. It's on solid hunk of brushed steel. Beautiful patina on the minute markers.

A real classic and understated beauty.

quite inconspicuous i would say.

7750 based calibre....with a slight wobble.

39mm without the crown.
 
Wears larger because of the thickness and large face. read from some sites saying that IWC claims that this model is the most reliable chrono model in their stable from their own servicing records.

The new Double Chronos are 42mm.

As always with IWCs their lug sizes are unconventional, so u either squeeze a wider strap or custom make one.

not sure though... think he got this piece from his FIL

also heard he got a Lange from his FIL too...

seriously i did not notice the extra pusher until i got home and examine the photo  :Laughing_on_floor:

the build quality, heft and patina alone got me mesmerised  :Laughing_on_floor:


also not being a chrono owner i am totally at lost  ???

The Doppel chrono (reference 3713) is 42mm in diameter and 16mm thick. It has a complicated split-seconds mechanism (an additional second hand) operated by the 10 o'clock pusher.

The very similar looking ref 3706 is 39mm in diameter. This is a normal chronograph (sans the extra sec hand). Both are based on Vajoux 7750.

In the size department, the Doppel was ahead of its time. I remember trying on both in the 90's. The 3713 seemed ridiculously big. I bought the normal-sized 3706.

The watch scene is of course different today. The 3706 now appears to be on the small side while the Dopple looks normal. Strange, how we tune our eyes to new standards.

Using "Swiss tourbillon" as a yard stick, you can discount half of the world population as greedy :)
