The Explorer 214270 features the excellent in-house caliber 3132, is now a superlative chronometer, rated to -2/+2 seconds per day. The Explorer features Paraflex shock absorbers as well, which suit the mountain-scaling nature of the design.

This watch is definitely a candidate as the ultimate “daily watch”. This watch can be used in all occasions and situations. It looks regal in a formal setting yet is also look rugged in an adventurous setting.
Compared to its contemporary under Rolex’s Professional series watches, this watch does not look like a tool watch even though it is designed to be such. This is why I think the Explorer I is still the most brilliantly designed watch under the Rolex brand.

One of the best tool watch from Rolex despite the price not so "tool-ish" anymore  ;D

using one and it's bezel is scratch magnet compared to ceramics

214270 is 39mm
114270 is 36mm
14270 is 36mm

I agree. I have the Ex II and my wife the Ex 1 (36mm). The Ex 1 in my opinion looks classier.....

This may be the best watch design and execution ever.
I am really worry to buy one... as this could mean end of me waring any other watches.

Price aside, the explorer 1 is one of the most practical mechanical timepieces available now. Universal appeal for both men and women in most occasions. To appreciate it is to use it as intended. May cause it to suffer scratches but it was designed to absorb punishment. Unfortunately, due to the pricing, most people would not want to test its capabilities. A pity.....
