What is your priority consideration to buy a watch??

After i read Peanut comments on this topic
"What I not so keen on Rolex is exactly the status symbol thing that many people bought Rolex for.  But if you think about it, people who are not in the know also think Bose and Pioneer are the greatest audio/stereo/AV equipment manufacturers.  If money is no object (which of course not usually the case), there are other watch makers which produce reliable and robust watches and with more innovative/interesting design or materials.
Rolex produces good watches.  But personally I will get a Rolex because I like the design (e.g. DSSD, GMT IIc) and not because it makes me look like a rich idiot."

i just wondering our member here....what is our member priority consideration to buy a watch??

for mines consideration as following:

1. Budget (currently below RM10k)
2. Design (aviator, diver, classi or etc)
3. Brand
4. Quality
5. Functional (date, GMT, Chonograph,etc)
6. Limited Edition
7. Movement

What you are listing are same as mine. At the moment not sure yet what will I get soon. Too many choices.

the most important thing is availability. i want the new pam 339 but it is not easily available. sometimes i feel that the budget i can come up with if i can see the model available. endure the torture of being bombed later.

1 more consideration, the wrist size, i have a chicken feet size wrist, so i know the pain of not able to get anything bigger than 44mm

This also ties to your collection approach.  Some collect a single brand (e.g. see the thread on the Casio G-Shock collection).  Some like myself want to have diversity in their collection.  As a result, beside setting a budget for my purchase, I tend to look for watches with design, complications, materials, brand, that I do not have in my current collection.  I also biased to more "obscure" brands (read: non-Rolex-Panerai) but that makes me rather not very practical as I am sure I will lose more if I decide to flip my watches.   

Until then, I will buy the next watch which sings the loudest to me when I am in the shop!

i am more like "spur of the moment guy"...
i dont really plan my purchase...if at that time i have cash to spare...what ever caught my attention within what i have in pocket would do...
so as long i am attracted to the watch for what ever reason i have that time...
i have some cool looking watch, i have some high tech watch, i have some very old and beaten used watch...
i really dont have anything specific...heheh
but i guess i love big watches..

I rarely buy on impulse but if i do its usually not something too expensive.
I usually plan my purchase for a long time. Case in point my Explorer-1 took me 10yrs before i finally got mine.
Well, if i have an idea for a watch and i still have the passion and urge to buy it 1yr later than chances are i really like it.

This is taking rational thinking and deliberation to an extreme!  How many multiple of 10 years do we have?  At your rate, I would need to spend my entire lifetime (10 years *8 ) buying all my watches purchased this year!

Well, not everyone is well off and has the means. 10yrs ago i was still a student so naturally that was not my priority.
Even when i started working, everyone knows what a basic salary a recent student grad gets in Malaysia so thats why i havent gotten around to it for such a long time.

At least you do not go overboard with yr purchases.From yr posting,I can see that you are prudent and do not give in easily to temptation.I've known of some 20,30 something pplwho owe their credit cards tens of thousands coz the flesh is weak and declared bankrupt.Good for you

I too once was heavy in debt. But lucky learned my lesson early and now i plan my purchases wisely.
For impulse buys i have set a limit which i am comfortable with.

+ watches with stories behind the design - genta original 4 designs etc

it's nice when you meet somebody who's oso into watches and you can share something else from the price and brand of your watch.

for me nothing much... if it catches my fancy and i have spare cash and the price is within my limit threshold, i would pull the trigger

but for some watches which have a very high depreciation cost.. i would not mind to wait and wait until a good one in a price range which i am comfortable to with before i commit myself.

will be getting a 14060 for myself and a 3,6,9 blue dialed Airking for the wife at the end of this year. both watches would be pre-owned cause the missus and I would not want to pay the difference in a new piece for what would be our "beater" watches.
