Baby steps-My journey through time
« on: September 10, 2010, 02:03:23 PM »
Saw the post started by Kenixck on first watch,it triggers some thought of my memory.
guess i can share some bits n pieces how I got started(deeply poisoned)with this expansive hobby. ;D
I still remember my first watch which was a gift from my father,a "ladies" seiko for my tiny wrist when i was in my primary 1.This was the first Horology seed got planted in my mind.
I need some time to find the watch which is lying some where in my drawer. For the time being,it looks almost the same with the one in the borrowed pic below.

these were the few i got as a gift in my primary and secondary schooling days.

The is a gift from my sisters when I was in my Form3 after i got my PMR result.

This is the first watch that I bought for myself with my first-time-hard-earned money :Jumping:Thanks to Popular bookstore.

My watch which accompanies me for 3 years in my Uni time, which again is a gift from my gf and now my wife.

This is the first real stuff which bring me into this no turning back journey..

It served me well and follow me to lots of places.

It was there when i was first poisoned by PAM virus ;D
Along the journey I did a lots of crazy stuffs such as,
Building my own watch box with a Timberland shoebox and Hot FHM playing cards. :o

Before i got this..

and "flossing" my watch.. my mom said I'm crazy back then ;D

before i got myself this to do the job..

I believe each and every piece has it's own sentimental value or story behind, wedding gift, milestone achievement in career, etc etc, which is the part I enjoy the most appreciating each timepiece.
To me in this journey, it doesn't matter how many watches you have collected or how expansive is your collection, what matters the most is how many new friends(as crazy as yourself )you have met and how many people will share the same joy like you whenever there is a new acquisition be it a Q&Q or a PP.
I guess I'm not alone in this journey, because of you guys and the growing community.

great story but i have 2 questions:

(1) what has the cards got to do with your watchbox? u use it as inspiration or past time while u take rest (while building ur box)?

(2) what is that osim device that you r using to clean your watches? i'm intrigued/////

Besview,Scott,CK,
Thanks a lot man!

Dsiewmy,

2.You can google Usonic by Osim, the OSIM uSonic helps you to clean your jewellery, glasses, watches and other small items using ultrasonic sound wave energy and tap or distilled water.

Wow CK very nice story on your journey.
I wish i still had all the watches i bought throughout the years.

I was once on top of the pits in Sepang circuit as well wearing my Tag at the time. Looks like you went during Japan GT and those look like GT300 cars.

- Where was that Panerai store?
- Curious to know does the floss work good to clean out dirt?
- The brush working good also?

Out of all your cleaning tools i only use the toothbrush once in a while to clean my watch.

I hope you didnt put the whole watch in that USonic only the bracelet.
I think if you put the whole watch inside it would damage it.

Hi CK,
Wonderful narrative of your journey to WIS-dom.  You really have to thank your Dad for having planted that very first "seed" in you so many years ago.
Thanks for sharing.

Peter,
thanks!
the Panerai store was in Conquest of time exhibition presented by sincere fine watches which was held in KLCC, back in 2006.
Kena poison kau kau tru internet and the first time see Panerai in real.I left my name for a PAM219 back then.but until now still no news from them ;D ;D ;D

It was my first Japan GT championship in Sepang again it was in 2006.got the media pass tru my fren and have chance to visit the media centre, the pits and the track before the race starts.

the yummylicious GT girls

and of coz some cars.. :P
More photo can be found here

the floss works really well, especially for bracelet cleaning.and the brush too..

i tried a few time put my whole watch in for cleaning, came out no problem.. ;D
may be just my luck, don't try this at home, because my brother in law put the whole watch, a Rado in for cleaning, the crystal dropped off after that... :Startled:

I would hesitate putting the entire watch in an ultrasonic cleaner. Parts yes, bracelet only yes, but entire watch (with movement) I would not.
