Watch Marketing
« on: January 20, 2014, 07:43:58 AM »
all watches need marketing, without marketing, you wont even know it.... not many watch can sell without marketing !

Rolex, Omega, Patek, AP, Hublot, Panerai..... all spent ! marketing shaping the perception in your mind towards the brand or its product!

which watch brand marketing impressed you ? in what way?

i personally like those Brand who hold thematic event, invite target group, let them know the design phylosophy... any technical advancement....
show them the new watches, let them molest it....

uurrgghh.........I'm a 'victim' of taglines.

I've got 'trapped' by IWC of its tagline "Engineered for Men" in newspapers and magazines so it made me believed IWC is the men thing  ;D

and the tagline "You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely take care of it for the next generation.” is slowly seeping into me

Some of you might know how I feel about the PP tagline, just don't get me started...

However I must say I am a sucker to the IWC advertisement. I must say that I feel in love with the watches first (it was love at first sight) before I was exposed to their marketing materials. I can almost rest assure that my feelings towards it is genuine  ;D

Anyway, one of my favourite IWC poster, which is amusing but a tad bit too skin deep...

shown this to my wife, but it doesn't stop her from wearing one though...

i was quite enjoy having a private chatting session with PSM earlier arranged by Kronos

as well as the BR even arranged by FJ Benjamin... the printed AD in old paper style ( now in MWF store ) is a good touch....

The Rolex ads in National Geographic ads got me as a kid - I always associated them with diving, exploration and adventure.  I was too young then to know about marketing!

As an adult, Omega suckered me in 100%.  I'm a big Bond fan, and as I was watching Casino Royale for the 10th time I decided that if I had a PO I'd be a little bit more like 007  ::)  There was a PO on the way to Australia before the movie even finished.

In my schooldays, my dad subscribed to LIFE, Times, Newsweek, National Geographic.
My sisters subscribed to Female, Cosmopolitan and Her World mag..
All the above had tons of watch advertisements..

Of course now you have Tattler, GQ, FMI, watever..

That's how I got suckered into Omega, TAG and Rolex which were my first forays into my own purchase of watches
And yea the Bond movies also influenced me into Rolex, Omega…

phew… I finally got past all that

Now I'm on the other end of the stick for marketing….. spinning stuff for others….payback time

Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

WOW Mr Yap I had the same inspiration!!

Before I knew anything about watches I always had the perception that Rolex is the best. after learning more about watches I started to appreciate other brands as well. And the more and more I read about Patek and AP the more poisonous it becomes haha. Having said that I still love Rolex watches a lot.
