Title: Is that safe to share watch ref code to potential buyer?
Post by: ambrose0422 on January 16, 2021, 12:09:57 PM
I am new in collecting watch, i recently want to sell a watch for an upgrade.
But the buyer requested for watch ref code. Is it safe to handover?

What is a watch ref code? Is it the model or serial number?

wait.. is the buyer asking for the watch reference code or serial number? Reference code are generally publicly available, so there should not be any issue.

Only serial number are private and in my humble opinion, it should not be given before any purchases

I think its serial number the buyer requested.

Noted with thanks, i have the same idea too. Its weird and insecure to provide the seriel number to buyer.

On some watches, serial numbers can determine year of made.
For example, Rolex X series made in 1990-1991

I once asked someone what is the reference number of the watch that they were trying to sell

I was immediately called a scammer
