Have read past posts on watches that a beginner should aim for when building a collection. Forum favorites here include watches such as the Seiko SKX007, Citizen NY0040, Orient Mako in very early posts to mentions of microbrands such as Steinhart in more recent posts. Most of the suggested watches are discontinued or trading at much higher prices these days. This is a result of inflation or changes in demand as evident in the prices of brands such as Rolex. A question I would like to ask here is; what watches would you recommend a beginner add to his collection today? I think to further narrow down the criteria, the watch should;
1. Not be trading above retail;
2. Preferably be priced below RM1,500 ( looking at entry models ) but a ceiling of RM2,000 is fine;
3. New or pre-owned is fine;
4. Preferably a handwind or automatic.
Let's see if times have changed the recommendation for a beginner collection and what kind of value can a collector get today. Thank you in advance for any recommendation.
