A lot of people out there are jealous on those Rolex owner, always think that wearing a Rolex is to prove that you are rich. Actually they are absolutely wrong! I bought my GMT Master II at RM 22,000 from Italy, now a new one is causing RM32000! Second hand price at RM 23,000 - RM25,000. It's value didnt even depreciated! Amazing watch. Need to buy more to keep.

Agreed with you.

Buy more yes, but dont buy those no one interested

I don't believe this before now I did. I think Rolex is more iconic. You not gonna lose much selling your old Rolex even sometime can make quite a profit.
-
in short buying a Rolex (sport models) is better buying a DSLR or PS4, because after few years, selling your Rolex, you either break even or earn a little profit, but selling your DSLR or PS4 you will bleed like hell.
People will always hate Rolex as they never experience before the benefits of owning one, because you never actually own a Rolex, some dude merely paying you to wear it.
-
btw, the OP chose the right word to start the thread as Capital Protection, because if the OP use the word Rolex as Investment then sure kena boom like hell.
-
In 2014 i bought a green hulk rolex at rm28,050. during 2015 i urgently need rolling still can sell at rm26,500 ! really capital protection and helps a lot...

Might as well put in FD .. get 4% interest ... wear a swatch or gshock or Seiko

Put all your money in FD is the most unideal investment. RM shrink thats why.

brought a Submarine 14060 back in Dec 2006 for 12.5k, now 2nd hand trader asking me to sell it to him at RM22k (in Oct 2017). I think the return is anytime better than FD at 4% rate (btw don't think bank can give you a 12k @ 4% rate consistently over 10 years period).

Looking at how Rolex Sport models appreciate, what do folks here think about buying a Rolex keeping it in the safe just to diversify ones portfolio? This is assuming you already have investments in stocks, and property?
-
Some buy Rolex as jewellery, some buy Rolex as investment/capital protection, some buy Rolex as heirloom, some buy Rolex as Watch....
I buy Rolex as watch.
-
Yes, buy a watch, any watch, to wear and enjoy. Anything else beyond that is a bonus. Unless one is fortunate to inherit a Paul Newman's Daytona, or vintage Pateks, any watch is the poorest investment one can make from hard earned cash.
And don't be fooled by what you think your hot watch is worth on paper. It's only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it.

Hi all MWF brothers,I'm planning to get a Rolex Hulk/Batman soon but AD always said out of stock for these model......I found out that some grey dealer that they have the stock but always selling way higher & massive mark up "Goreng" above official AD RRP even for the pre-owned unit.
Any tips, specific way or chances that we can get these high demand model from our local AD without paying so much extra to get from those grey dealer??
Any input & suggestions will be gladly appreciated.

Only apply to sport model.

If you bought watches when USD was RM3 then yes, it looks like you hit jackpot. If you buy one when it was RM4.5 and now going towards 4.0 then maybe not.
