DATE & TIME: 13th November 2011, 9.00AM
LOCATION: PADANG MERBOK, KUALA LUMPUR
DISTANCE: 3.6km. OPTIONAL an additional 1.2km route for the more "gungho" (hardcore) runners
Terry Fox was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) in his right leg in 1977 and had his leg amputated 15 cm (six inches) above the knee. While in hospital, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. He called his journey the Marathon of Hope.
Terry's Marathon of Hope took place in 1980 with the simple objective of informing Canadians of the importance of finding a cure for cancer. With fierce determination, he ran an average of 42 kilometres (26 miles) every day for 143 days. Terry was forced to end his run on September 1, 1980 when the cancer spread to his lungs.
By February 1, 1981, Terry's dream of raising $1 for every Canadian was... realized - the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope fund totaled $24.17 million. Terry died in June 1981.

Dear Runners,
Please take note of the following facilities at Padang Merbok:

There is ample parking space available on Saturdays and Sundays. Weekdays will be mostly full due to the government offices located nearby.
Toilets & Bathrooms:
There are both male and female toilets right next to the field. It is open from 7.00am till 6.00pm daily. It is serviced by cleaners who will constantly
ensure that you have a good toilet experience . Rates are RM0.20 for toilet usage and RM0.50 for bathroom usage. It is maintained by DBKL.

Update from the organiser:
Good morning everyone! Just a reminder that parking will be limited tomorrow, Padang Merbok carpark will be closed as it will be used as the starting point of our run. Please look into carpooling to the event or parking at Lake Gardens.
-
Not bad, good turn out, if it is raining, the run still continue?

Good Monday Morning everybody,
How was the TF Run?
Sorry I could not make it yesterday as I was sick an only managed to wake up at 12.45pm and again at 5pm yesterday for food and medication.
-
Overall the run was great.
Just wish it could flag off earlier as the weather is hot.
-
Ya, that too.
Most run starts early to avoid the hot Malaysian weather and also to prevent runners from "overheating" due to dehydration in the hot sun.
Anyone taken pictures?
-
Yup, started late, and the starting point full of people, I mean not behind the line, but in front of the line :Laughing_on_floor:..Once started, those people in front just walk, so it is just a walkathon ;D...Pictures are with Jacky, got to wait for him to upload....But it was a good walk and run, tapi balik jams teruk :Blue:

Nice photos of MWF members in action.
Too bad the run was badly organised, unlike the other Runs which were done "professionally".
Maybe because this is a Fun Run, not a competitive run; but must be run in an orderly manner too IMO.
Other competitive runs were being operated in a more orderly manner, maybe because they were organised by some running outfit or associations.

Shaolin Kung Fu father & son :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor: Thanks Eugene for the pict
