I'm afraid it's not as poisonous as the PAM club which incidentally also have approximately similar entrance fees.

Hi All,

I am so glad that Gapnap has started this post since I have been doing some light surfing on JLC watches lately.

I am not a JLC member just yet. I am very much interested in the NAVY SEALs edition watches (because they are limited edition like Panerai).  However, these NAVE SEALs watches are more sporty and complicated (those with chronograph and GMT functions).

I am curious to know for all the JLC owners and lovers, would you guys prefer a SIMPLE dial or COMPLICATED dial.  SPORTY or ELEGANT look?  By comparing to Panerai, most (if not all) Panerai enthusiast loves the SIMPLE dial and the more SIMPLE the better.

I know it may all down to personal preferences.  But in terms of retaining value and whether it is of collectible value, I would be grateful if JLC lovers could share their passions and views on this. Thank you.

Kind regards,
Wilson

The poison here is too much. Just out of curiosity. What motivated you to go the Jaeger route? Have you guys got tonnes of Rolex-es and Panerai and trying something new? I am toying with the idea of flipping one of the latter brands for a jaeger and need some extra push to go all the way.

i've also been eyeing that JLC Master Control Chronograph in rose gold ever since i saw one at the Bukit Bintang boutique. so lucky i don't like anywhere near KL or else the temptation would be too strong. the very smart SA there gave me a thick book to ogle the pictures while i dream of owning it some day.

Actually my 1st WIS watch is a JLC. I have avoided Rolex for a long time  :-\ until 3 years ago. The Panerai thing is recent.

JLC is the best value for money if you ever go for highend horology. Remember the holy trinity? AP PP VC. JLC is the main supplier of movement to them. JLC done almost all but  chronograph for these 3 brands.

JLC is selling at lower price because they need to make a lot of watch and to do that they need to keep the cost down. That's why the finishes are less perfect than a PP (not always thou some are better) but there's more innovation in JLC than any of the holy trinity.

JLC concerntrate making good watches, the holy trinity concerntrate on making good looking watches.  You get what I mean  ::)

I will always opt for a classic JLC , or iconic JLC .

Here are my preference :

1.Complications
2.Memovox
3.Power reserve

Doesn't matter if it is a Reverso , AMVOX or a Master Compressor . Each series serve different purposes .

Didn't went through the Rolex , PAM route . Straight away a Jaeger man .
For me , Jaeger LeCoultre speaks to me , it describes my personality (as a JLC wearer) .
The brand inspires me to be all i can be , and to be the best in what i do .

That is my motivation :)

In many ways, JLC represents me.

Can't agree more for what been said by Godzillaz and gapnap.

I just love simplicity in life and complications do add colours in life. But again, that's just me.

For me, JLC always brings to mind the Reverso.
It is the iconic JLC.

In my case the first 8 day is a variation complication.

Thi is a big watch if you measure lug to lug, as long as a Panerai.

what a beautiful looking watch.

I would consider getting a Grande Reverso Duo or the 976 if I can find a nice used one.

Thanks for your kind words zeo9, I've replied to your PM.

The Reverso is the iconic JLC for me.
That particular model was the only Reverso I'm aware of which had a jump day function on an otherwise plain reverse.
Others are have their complications on the reverse or a clear crystal, which does away with the original intended function, being to protect the watch.
The offset seconds dial seems to only have been with the 8 day movement, the other iteration having the reserve indicator on the upper left side and the date on the lower left side, which makes for a very busy dial.

cheers
richard

Come on folks, what do we have to do?
Is there only a little love here for JLC?

I nearly bought a Reverso Gransport today in New York. A good friend there looked at the piece for me, but it wasn't really "as described" by the seller.
Fortunately my friend is a fellow JLC aficionado and knew what to look for.

Might just wear my JLC tomorrow (Saturday), if I can force the Panerai 210 away  :)

hi darrencw,
I bought the MM in White Gold new sometime back...
May consider letting it go at the right price..
The MM SS was abt RM 21K nett and the MM WG was abt RM 38Knett when new.

WG is a limited edition numbering up to 999 and is slightly different as it has a display back with an additional hunter back cover, deployant is also in white gold..

As a guide one of the forummers here recently managed to buy a pre-owned MM SS at abt RM 17K

Just had to add this Diving Alarm to my other 2 JLCs…couldn't sleep well since scalpel's post on June 13th…..
checked the dial and hands with a loupe….no complaints….hour/minute hands on the hour are accurate
the shot peened ceramic bezel is really cool...nice to the touch and supposed to be scratch resistant...the titanium 5 case is beautifully brush finished..

still looking for a pre-owned Polaris...

Interesting. Anything special to the red hand and 60?

Crown seems to be rubber?

What do u guys think?

Been offered a full set, mint Dualmatic for SGD 6.3k. Is it reasonable? Kinda like the calibre, looks and function.

Definitely not one of the popular model. I afraid unless you like the master compressor design. You might get bored with it very soon. I would look at a geografique instead.

Beautiful watch. Good price? I believe you have a soft spot for dual time watches, so why not.

Nice to hear that.

Initially, Amvox 5 (Q193J471) and Amvox 7 (Q194T470) were also considered. To my eyes, I tend to feel that both models were 'too crowded' hence Amvox 2 was choosen which of course had my undivided attention since I started the JLC path months ago. But who knows, I might appreciate more on both models in future especially with the Amvox 7. Well, that's another story. :D

As for Amvox 2, let it be the titanium or the black pvd titanium, both are getting harder to get. My best wishes and happy hunting!

Oh yeah, Amvox 1 is indeed would be a good catch.

akunawe,

nice Amvox..If I can find an Amvox Ti, I'd be very tempted.....just like the dark grey metal look…
Care to share if this was bought pre-owned and from an online shop or direct seller through the net?
And the ball park price you paid for it?
Thanks..

Hi JOS2012!

It was bought new from a local AD here just couple of days ago. Pricewise, I don't know whether this forum allows members to share on the price, but to be safe here, I paid somewhere RM33-35k. Here's the model # Q192T440. Hope that helps.

Have a look at Amvox 7. U might like it.

just a question out of the topic...

any of u guys know how much does it cost to buy the articulated rubber strap for the reverso squadra hometime?

thankssss

Post by: JOS2012 on July 16, 2012, 10:30:15 AM
I do not know abt the Squadra but I happened to ask about the JLC NS Diving models articulated rubber bracelet.
The look, comfort and feel is really amazing and the cost is even more amazing.....RM 6,500.00 (nett)  extra if you choose this bracelet over the cheapest option of leather strap with buckle.
Most regular metal bracelets from top brands like JLC will cost you about RM 2,500-3,000 if compared to the leather strap models but the articulated strap is very hi-tech....the metal is rubber coated.

You have to pay to play at this level...

yeah the articulated rubber looks stunning and it is really really comfy. my second option would be the leather, i think it would cost me ard 1k plus

yeah its really an expensive pool to play. hahaha. thanks neway

Can't agree more with JOS2012.

My view.

For future JLC purchase, that say if budget permits and interest is on the articulated rubber, then, I would strongly advice to go for it given that we will also be saving on the cost of articulated rubber strap due to the discount given when buying with the timepiece compared if we were to buy it separately.

To me, the articulated rubber has a unique nice appearance and feel, really comfortable on the wrist and easy maintenance in the long run.

I was fortunate to own one of the NS series with the articulated rubber and have been loving it ever since I bought it few months back.

Just my 2 cents.  ;D

Used to own a JLC squadra chrono, reverso and an RDM. The RDM is the best of the lot. Unfortunately i sold it all in purchasing one watch for another. Now looking at getting back into JLC. Just love the history of it all. Definitely the most underated manufacturer in terms of price. A bit on history, they almost bought over Patek in the early 20 th century before it being sold to The family of the present owners ;)

Underrated if you compare it with other manufacturers such as AP, PP etc.

If you meant underated in terms of the quality one gets considering the much lower price...then yes JLC is THE manufacture to go for in terms of value....the way I see it, its just a matter of time JLC catches up and so far they've been doing a good job.

My JLC Reverso Grande GMT was sent back to MJLC at Le Sentier for its scheduled service and took 5 months   :Startled:  but it came back brand new... :Dancing_banana:  except my strap which is well-used..

Just collected yesterday evening from JLC Boutique Starhill and am very very happy with the quality of the work done...
JLC rockss..

I was told by JLC Boutique that all the 3 previous 8-day Reversos models are no longer in production. The only 8-day movements are now in Master Control range only, so I was advised to keep the Grande GMT as prices are supposed to go up.

Am going to join Le Club very soon. Just put down a deposit for a JLC. Quick question. Which would you go for? I am given a choice between the JLC MC Navy Seal and the JLC MC Navy Seal Diving Alarm. Is the alarm version worth going for? Right now the deposit is on the non-alarm version but I can always move it to the alarm version at any time.

alarm all the way man.

The NSA is the watch to get. The alarm movement from JLC is second to none. If you worry about resell value then go preowned. I have 4 JLC alarm and planning to add another one  They are so addictive.

I strongly recommend it. You won't regret it.

Nice Tribute to Deepsea . Had the opportunity to buy one earlier but I was too slow. Made up by buying the Navy Seals Alarm. The alarm revertebrates louder in a titanium case than a steel case. I had the opportunity to test it together with a JLC Extreme World Alarm.

Good to see this thread. My first proper mechanical watch was a JLC Master RDM (which I still have). Later on I also added a Reverso Grande GMT.

I greatly respect JLC as a true manufacture and hence selected a JLC as my first proper mechanical watch.

Been searching for a dress watch, shortlisted Patek, Lange and JLC. Yesterday went for final round of testing. almost decided to get the Lange 1 but no stock for pink gold model. Finally bought this JLC Master Calendar 2013 in Pink gold which i found value for money with triple date and moonphase.

The latest JLC Master Calendar 2013 comes with 39mm diametre and 10.6 mm thickness. both slightly smaller and thinner than the previous model. the dial is silvered sunray-brushed which look clean and class.

Ha Ha, I also tried to classfy it as "investment" but in fact it is a "luxury toy" that, though hold value better than car, still depreciate in value the moment you walk out from the Boutique. Just to pamper myself sometimes.. ;D

Resale value or whatever aside, this is a classy watch, great proportion and looks fantastic!

Congratulations on your acquisition! Wear it in good health.

@el118, a lovely pink gold JLC..
it looks more formal than my old WG Master Moon which hasn't been worn in awhile..(some old pictures for comparison)
Newer date fonts and second hand markers.
Master Moon is on cal 891/448/2 vs the new Master Calendar cal 866 but all locations and even the movt looks d same
Your Master Calendar is slightly smaller than the previous Master Calendar that enkidu has but slightly larger than the Master Moon which is only 37mm.

Perhaps I shld have gone for PG too.
All this time I've avoided YG/PG, preferring platinum or WG but the PG does suit the new Master Calendar

Why dun u initiate a JLC GTG II.. I initiated the first JLC gtg in March 2013 and turnout was great..

Yeah, just very subtle difference in the dial. you have kept your watch in good shape bro, and it comes with hinged case back  . not available in the new version probably JLC want to cost down ;) (it even do away with the folding buckle, just the pin buckle) and the addtional cost to order that folding buckle is a whopping RM10,000  ???

let's organize a a JLC GTG II, you take the lead and i will be more than willing to attend and meet you guys to admire the various fine watches!

hi el118,
The watch is in mint condition because it just came back from its 2nd service at MJLC....

This folding buckle is RM 10K ??   :Startled:  How much gold can there be in that little folding deployant ?   :shocked1: madness. It used to be abt RM 5K.....which was already ridiculous..
hmm should I put it up for sale and use a cheap JLC pin buckle instead...

(http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m235/JoeyJLC/_DSF8056.jpg) (http://s105.photobucket.com/user/JoeyJLC/media/_DSF8056.jpg.html)

Abt the next JLC GTG, I'm currently organising a GS gtg happening next few weeks and we already have 5 confirmed GS enthusiasts.
The next JLC gtg will have to wait till maybe Nov/Dec.
Anyway most of the GS enthusiasts are also JLC collectors... :Laughing_on_floor:

Cheers

Exactly! even Lange folding buckle is "only" around RM5k. dunno what JLC is after....

look forward to the next JLC GTG. any correlation between owners of JLC and GS ? or mostly poisoned by you?  ;D

The Master Geographic has a lovely asymmetrical design with elements of the golden ratio.
It was on my to acquire list many2 years ago (even before I got my Master Moon) but I was unlucky that the initial batches at JLC boutique had less than perfect luminous applications.
JLC has improved their luminous application tremendously since. I should re-look for a pre-owned again.

Was this bought new NOS or pre-owned.

Morning to all.

Currently I have a Master Compressor Geographic, which I feel that It's kinda small for me.
Need you guys expert opinions before I take the plunge.
Thanks in advance.

newbie here... need some advice on 2 JLCs, price wise is just by a few hundred Ringgit...
1. MUT Moon
2. MUT Reserve De Marche (RDM)
both have similar power reserve... but from specs... RDM more complex due to more parts and more jewels?

leaning more towards the Moon for looks, though i'm not sure how useful is the moonphase function  :Laughing_on_floor:

In my opinion, a power reserve indicator is far more useful than moonphase, function wise - unless you are a Chinese who goes vegetarian on 1st and 15th of lunar month :)
However, aesthetically, moonphase looks much more attractive, to me at least.
I will go for look and pick up the MUT moonphase.

Just my two cents

which is exactly my thoughts... usefulness vs aesthetics...

not exactly aesthetic alone... the moon phase is useful for my wife since she's praying every 1st and 15th of the month

planning to buy a watch for her cos i'll be putting more consideration on her criteria rather than myself
i always drool over the power reserve indicator ;D
but the moon phase is drop dead gorgeous especially in rose gold but prefer SS instead, more practical, not so bling bling...

thanks for the 2 cents bro

Was outstation since dawn today and have only just reached back home in KL, a few minutes ago…

(Looks like this is my 2013 grail journey, similar to what I underwent for my 2012 grail watch; the GO Perpetual Calendar)

I delivered a watch I sold and collected a watch I bought all in the same day today, in different parts of the country….

All in all, exhausted, tired, sleepy whilst driving a few hundred kms all within a day  but extremely satisfied, happy and emotionally fulfilled……..

I finally got the JLC I've been yearning for the last few years but never been able to find in mint condition and at market value…
Although 1 or 2 did pop up over the internet, I'm not a savvy internet purchaser and I have my doubts esp. when in view of the cost involved...

No time to take any proper camera macro shots… it will have to wait till I get back from my 2 week overseas holiday…

In the meantime here's a quick i-phone shot of the apple of my eye where JLC dive watches with alarm is concerned…….some people may hardly be excited coz although this was one of the 'watches to own' several years ago but it is no longer now on the radar… ;D  However my love affair with this watch never faded..it only grew stronger and stronger…

Last year I acquired another latest model JLC alarm having thought that I would never be able to acquire this 'apple of my eye JLC alarm'.
Although the initial attraction of the newer JLC alarm was strong, my feelings for this original older piece somehow never faded away and in fact overshadowed the newer model..

I'd like to thank a great MWF member who owns 2 of these hard to find models, (65 & 68 version) and took the trouble to actually remember that I've been looking for this piece for the last few years. He tipped me off when an excellent mint condition piece was on the market.

I owe you one….Thank you very much… you know who you are...

Presenting the JLC Tribute To Polaris 68.. (TTP68)

The original Polaris was issued in only 1,714 pieces between 1965-1970 and is a highly sought after vintage commanding very high prices by WIS worldwide…approx Euro 30K.

It is called the Polaris because it is said that the very first piece of this model was presented to the captain of the USS nuclear submarine 'Polaris' when it sailed for the first time under the North pole or was it the South pole.. I forget.. ;D

Even the Tribute re-issue of 768 pieces Limited Edition in 2008, is extremely hard to come by..a pre-owned is selling for almost the original price when it was launched  ( approx. RM50K +/- nett)
JLC has remarked that they will not produce any more re-issues of TTP from here on.

yes, from mwf merchant…
decided to sell my NSDA and to go back to my first love the Polaris..
Yes, this is a keeper like my Amvox 2

Congra Joseph, this is definetly a keeper, brought if from our merchant here?

Thanks, David..
I think so too..
I like this vintage design although the NSDA is technically superior in terms of materials & alarm sound.
I'm extremely happy right now and consider myself lucky to be able to find such a mint condition piece..

Joseph,

You are a true WIS. It's a piece I admire as well among all the shots posted at the JLC gathering.  I was also very surprised to see one of the merchants here had one on sale for a while now and just updated it as sold.

I can imagine your happy look just like when you acquired the Amvox2.

Congratulation Jo

A watch like the TTP 68 should stay within the collector's circle. I would hate to see it end up unloved by the new owner. It's a special watch, a part of JLC history that's still relatively unknown to the world if compare to Reverso. It is best it goes to someone who truly appreciate it.

I'm glad to have the fortune to know 2 of its owner. The seller and you. To pay a non flipper price is just icing on the cakes.

Thank you everyone for your kind wishes and comments whether via this thread or WhatsApp texts..

I never imagined that there are others who also like it. Its very old world...my era perhaps..

A link on the Polaris...

http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/just-because-hands-on-with-a-1968-jaeger-lecoultre-polaris

I was exhausted last night and slept very early. Was surprised to read so many comments this morning on my post.. :D

Thanks a zillion, Tyler.
I owe you for letting me know about the availability and even taking the trouble to bring it for my viewing during the last JLC GTG.

When you first showed your own TTP sometime back, I was elated and I remember requesting you to allow me the first offer of refusal, in the very unlikely event that you ever wanted to sell it.

I'm over the top in being able to secure this piece at a fair price and in a condition beyond reproach despite it being 5 yrs old. Even the box it comes in is special, racing green and gold lettering and in mint condition too.

When the watch was first made available in 2008 at JLC boutique in Starhill, Joanne (the Manager then) informed me that they were allocated just 2 pieces. I hesitated then due to the price for just a SS watch with alarm and no other complication. :o

By the time I got over the price weeks later, both pieces were sold. I've been looking out for it ever since but either the premium was too high or the condition was less than optimal. :'(

This will be one of the very few watches that I will never sell, although I know that eventually I have to downsize whatever I have, as I get too old.....

Congratulation Jo

Beautiful.  Please do a full review....

I hope I'm not being too bold... but yes the watch design is absolutely perfect... you need to see the complex curvatures of the dial, the date wheel and the internal rotating bezel in the metal to appreciate it. Reminds me of the 60's old classics from VC, PP, etc .....

beautiful watch Jos...

Thanks Ck...its lovely

Wow congrats on capturing your grail.
Beautiful reissue

Thanks Ivan, appreciate it..

Congrats and wear it with good health.

Jason,
How about showcasing your equally recent JLC acquisition too... ;D
Now that you're into JLCs, you simply must acquire a Polaris...
Great year but financially very taxing..

Jos, this is a truly remarkable piece. Well you must be full of joy after being so patient. I guess that makes the grail journey even more fulfilling. Wow, Amvox 2 and TTP 68 in a matter of weeks. 2013 has been a great year for you!

You flatter me Donald..
I believe that all of us in MWF are true WIS except those who post to sell and then disappear.
If you ever got to examine the TTP68 up close... its very charming in the old world way..
Yes, I got it from a MWF merchant who knows Tyler very well, hence Tyler brought it to show me during the JLC GTG II.
BTW the Polaris is much more difficult to get hold of, compared to the Amvox 2, hence greater the joy..

Hi Guys

Currently work in Australia but just planned a last minute trip back to KL. Looking at a Master Calendar and wanted to see if anyone would have any clues to what kind of prices I should be expecting and any recommendations on dealers.

Currently working in Australia and it retails at about 11k (about 10k) after claiming back GST but no stock for the next few months.

Appreciate any feedback.

Looks like I found one for about 26.5k after disc. However looks a little too small after using a 41mm watch for about 6 years. Got shown a pic of a zenith Winsor annual calendar for a much cheaper price and I'm torn between the 2. Sigh first world problems.

Not quite mine yet.
This is the working prototype shown at JLC SIHH 2014 Starhill launch last week.
Although I've booked a piece, final purchase decision depends on final discounted price and the look of the actual watch itself (there may be slight changes in production piece)...

I've been looking for the right ceramic sports watch with chrono GMT for travel...
This JLC ticks all my boxes.. if only an alarm was thrown in, it would be perfect

The Zenith Doublematic has all the features but it just didn't bond with me although I tried it on my wrist and found it not bad looking...

BTW hope you still kept your Squadra Hometime... nice watch

I can't really tell from the pictures for sure but does the GMT hand gets in the way? Being the slowest moving hand, I just thought it ought to be a bit more discreet. Perhaps this is just a sample prototype, the visual in the website shows that it's more 'skeletal' with thinner outline frame.

Nonetheless, this is a handsome piece.

What's there not to like..
my favourite classic tri-compax chrono layout, running second hand at 6 o'clock (unlike most chronos either at 3 or 9 o'clock-most unbalanced look), very balanced symmetrical dial, ceramic case in black -my fav color, an in-house proven 757 calibre from a venerable manufacture, relatively low production.

At certain angles you can't see the GMT skeleton hand.. good or bad depends on individual. I believe as with most JLC, you can tuck the 2nd GMT hand under the hour hand when not in use.

yeah Squadra Hometime is here to stay, unless Polo Fields enters the picture, it would be different story

i like the calibre 757, just like in the NS diving chrono GMT

how do you find the size? does it sits nicely on the wrist? I've found that the NS chrono gmt is a bit on the big bulky side. I'm assuming this would be the same...  :-\ :-\ :-\

BTW hope you still kept your Squadra Hometime... nice watch

I can sense that ure letting go that top gun for this piece. Its my direction as well. Drool

I wore it for only a few minutes so I can't really recall.
If there was any negative experience, I would have taken note of it.
Different shaped wrists will also experience different experiences.

The caseback is flat so for me, it sits nicely.
Being ceramic its relatively light so you don't feel the heft.
My previous NS Diving Alarm was a lot heavier, bulkier and thicker.

Hi guys. Im about to collect my JLC Master Control Geographic (s.s) and reverso duetto classic (for my wife) in 2 weeks. Would there be a scenario when an AD is selling fake watches or very old stock.

How can we verify that?

Hello everyone, nubie here, been watching the brand for a long while before taking a plunge. I happen to bump into an unused Master Compressor Extreme geographic with carbon fibre face while hunting today, and it's got a 1xx/500 limited run stamped at the back. Anyone can tell when was this model launched and when was it discontinued (if it was). What would be the fair price for this model? Looks really hot !!!!

Sorry I don't know how to attach photo from my iPhone (if someone can teach me, I'll post some actual photos)

Many thanks

Faisal

Hi ! Chan here, looking to join the JLC club. Just wondering what the RRP is for JLC watches in Malaysia, specifically the master control date/ ultra thin / reverso duo. Reason i ask is that i'm currently in Europe and have no way to view Malaysian prices. Also, any idea on the rough discounts ADs give on JLC in Malaysia?

Thank you! If someone has a price list that'd be the best.
