Title: Official 2010 Formula-1 thread
Post by: takashi78 on July 12, 2010, 07:02:14 AM
Now dont tell me there isnt any F1 fans in out forum right? ;D

Lets start one although its already middle of the season.

On this last race although RedBull did not give Webber "wings"  :P, he still won it.

His line after the cross the finish line is hilarious!

"not bad for the no. 2 driver" - webber

LOL thats right on the dot  :P

Props to Nico as well! I kinda still favor him for the next WDC next to Vettel.

I used to be a big F1 fan in my college/uni days. Went for the 1st F1 race in Sepang back in 97/98. My first and probably my last one. It's way too hot.

Would love to go for the Monaco GP in my lifetime.

Lost interest in F1 during those years when Schuey was dominating the sport. Man, I still remember that stupid move in the US GP, where he slowed to allow rubens to catch up with him so they could cross the line together and allowed rubens to win. That was it for me.

But I am still a McLaren fan from those days.

Got a little more interesting when Alonso stopped the Schuey steam roll, but by then I wasn't as fanatic as before.

On the subject of no. 1 and no. 2 drivers, I think Schuey in Ferrari is a good example on how this setup can work. It was always made clear that schumi is the no. 1 in ferrari so there was no delusions from his team mate that they would be treated equally. It gave him and ferrari 5 titles in a row!

I think the problems comes when there is no transparency, be it intentional or un-intentional by the team's management.

IMHO, I don't think either red bull drivers will win the title this year. They may have the fastest car on the track, but all this drama will be their downfall. Some similarities with McLaren when they had hamilton and alonso few years back.

But then again, Button and Hamilton seems to a good working relationship (on the surface of it!). I put my money on Hamilton. He had all the bad luck last year, but this year is vice versa. Karma!

I'd like to see more from Vettel. The lad's talented but still needs some maturing to do.

Red Bull's performance in F1 is good for Casio though.  :P

For me the future of the sport is 3 person Roseberg, Vettel and dare i say Kobayashi.
I just love the fighting style and spirit of Kamui and if given a good car i think he will go places.
But i actually kinda sad to see Bourdais leave the way he did. Dont understand how a 4 time ChampCar champ can perform so bad in F1.

i am a fan of Kimi when he was still in F1.
now can't watch every F1 race on TV because study in Uni, no TV.
this season is fantastic and i think the team champion would be red bull or mclaren.

I will always be a Kimi fan.
To me he is a natural born fast driver. No BS just get in and drive.

I think the best driver on the track right now is Alonso. Although he burned his bridges with mclaren on the spygate scandal, gotta give him credit where its due.

He has outperform all his team mates, except when in mclaren (but that's another story). He can find that little bit extra from his car that no one can. And he still drives 101% when the chips are down which admirable.

Alonso drive a bad car to its best potential. Right now on the grid i would say he is the best.

Its hard to find F1 driver outside. Most ppl dont really like F1 as they think it is "Boring Turning Around the tract For 1 and 1/2 Hours"

Mc Laren does not win the race much as Red Balls but they are very consistent unlike the RB where they team-mate bump into each other or sheet (unlucky event) happend to them. Now they are on top of the standing  (not a fan of Mclaren tho)

I just enjoy F1 no matter which driver or team so long i got to enjoy watching good racing (like the old days 90's)

German GP is coming up this weekend, anyone think a German can win it?
Closest i think which can do the job (by a long shoot) is Roseberg, or maybe even Sutil can surprise everyone?

I am going to expect another Red Ball front row lock during qualifying and hopefully they dont screw up during the race.

I dont care who win so long hamilton doesnt win  :Scolding:

1-2 more inches and we might have a HUGE accident.

F1 is my only favourite sports now.

My favourites driver used to be Kimi, but he speaks to himself only, no one understands. fed up with him ! :Scolding:

These are the ones whom I wish will win this session : Alonso, Jenson and... Vettal, but he is too far behind now. :Praying:

Mark Webber? ... don't know why... just don't like his face!

At last someone to talk F1 with me here haha.
Well all the person you mentioned won this year, just not the DC yet hehe.

Kimi is still my fav, i dont care if i cant understand him he just so yau yeng.
Rumor now he is talking to Renault maybe we will be seeing him again next year.
Kimi is still the most "naturally" fast driver, besides him i think Alonso is the most well rounded drive on the grid now, give him any car and he can drive it to the fullest.

HUBLOT is sponsoring F1 races as a whole brand, not for drivers..
TAG for long has been sponsoring McLaren Drivers...but i have yet seen any model being associated with Jenson Button....

For long watches company have been working hand to hand with F1 fret...but nowadays instead of only the luxurious watch maker like HUBLOT ,Graham & Tag...some of the sponsor make only affordable watches. As example the TW Steel for renault and Casio for RBR...Both are affordable watches

(http://images.bidorbuy.co.za/user_images/448/108448_091229140122_Sebastian.jpg) (http://www.superchrono.com/images/medium/tw672_MED.jpg)

I think we all know that PANERAI also make watches for Ferrari, but i always wonder why they never want to sponsor the Ferrari F1 team ?

A while ago there was F1 watches made by Jacques Lemans from Austria i believe, but those pieces are really suck...i never like it...luckily it is cheap enough...i dont think they have any license to produce F1 watches anymore...

TAG has been considerate enough not to forget the ladies fan of f1...they make some awesome F1 ladies watch...i couldnt think of any other ladies F1 watch...Despite not necessary for you to be a F1 fan to own one, but if you are hardcore F1 fan like me, owning one bring lots of pleasure...which is one of the main reason i bought my Casio Edifice...

The 2010 HUBLOT F1 king is awesome....

i love it very much with its dark appeal+red crown. However I am rather frustrated with 2010 Graham Mercedes GP..

the dial seem mundane to me, and i wish they will make a model base on the Chronofighter Oversize they way they did it for the TT Isle of Man...awesome.... (oh yes i love Graham)

By the way, actually i just noticed this post...heheh...I am big fan of F1 by the way...been passionate with it since i was lil kid...three things i love in life...watch, F1 and cars...typical boys right...hehhehe

This year seem like a very intresting race to me...5 drivers battle head to head till today and i think this will continue till the last 3 race when it become 3 ways championship fight...I hope button could squeeze his way through but webber seem like a cooler driver and least to crack...and yet again, i think vettel would blow his chance this time around....but hey, this is 2010 f1...u cant really predict what would be the outcome...(unlike the tad boring 2003 season)

On the other note, it is pretty exciting having two Malaysian related team on the circuit...Mercedez GP Petronas and Lotus...I hope next year schumi will do well, and Lotus with new renault engine would do better than Force India , Sauber & STR...and yes of course the HTR and Virgin...
Funny i never like schumi till this year, seing him being human and struggling, attract me well....If he can beat the odd next year, he will become a legend and a good motivation story...i love seing him being weak at the moment but didnt admit to defeat...go on schumi, beat the odd , beat the physic...use your mind blowing power....hehehhehe

errkkk long rant ya...sorry :)

One more pic i found over the weekend.

To me, Petronas was a sell out not to sponsor Lotus as the true local Malaysian team.
Well maybe the exposure of MS is to much not to go with it.
Looks like Lotus is set to be the best of the new teams and really hope they do much better next year. Maybe go within 1sec of STR? or even beat them in quali.

I still pray long and hard for Kimi to return next year!
Title: Re: Official 2010 Formula-1 thread
Post by: mnazri.tan on September 23, 2010, 09:48:58 AM
To me, yes it is a good decision by Petronas not to join lotus. But also a very good decision by people behind lotus to start lotus. It is a good work so far. Their pace is as what expected from them and that saying they are doing a very good job. Far better than the start of Jaguar, Super Aguri ,Arrows, etc ...considering that lotus build the car from scratch, not buying car from anyone...engineering point of view, what they have accomplished is remarkable to me

In my point of view, Petronas clearly going into different direction. Not building a team of their own, but merely supporting a team. The way Shell work with Ferrari in which work well with their product. And off late, Petronas has been making some genius motorsport investment. Look at name in their stable, from schumi, nico, rossi, lorenzo, and those people in Japan GT...this is huge improvement as compared to several years back...And that is different direction from Lotus...Lotus is about a team of malaysian people, building a formula 1 team, by getting talents from all around the work to work for us....that is different modul, different concept...and for us as malaysian what a joy to have a team to support battling the top place, and team fighting to be the best of new comer...salute both....

I know the pace of lotus is quite off than the top team..but that is F1...No we cant blame it on cosworth engine,  william did well with the same engine...hence that goes down to the body work...but than again with limited time (knowledge and experience) they have in designing the car, i think it is reasonable enough they are where they are at the moment...it took at leats some time just to build the team of people and the work place before everybody could put down their effort in building the car....I am sure they will do well very soon...Now with renault next year, it is not a guarantee that it would become an immediate succes, RBR took so long with renault to be where they are nowadays...it take time to understand the engine (plus the 40 hp deficit renault having at the moment...) so what you said make sense....1 sec better than STR...that would be brilliant...remember STR is using Ferarri engine...but looking at the attitude they are having at the moment...I wont be surprise if Lotus emerge as top among the mid runner next year...optmisic yes, but also realistic...not many team has the same level of enthusiasm like lotus....that make a lot of different....

F1 is like world or watch making...highly complicated and demanding...years back, i was fortunate to be young potential engineer being invited by petronas to meet their f1 engineer...two malay guy...my hero obviously...to bad those days as students i couldnt afford to have camera phone with me....and that session kindda build me up into what i am today...

Pray hard for Kimi to come...but then again...a few fact
a) Kimi has just won his first Rally recently...if i am kimi..i would opt to stay longer...what else to chase in F1 anyway ?
b) Vitaly Petrov pave way for russian millions to come in to Renault...and he is not a bad driver either...Kimi may not bring as much money and he will ask for huge wages...in the end F1 is a business
c) Very unlikely Kimi would want to drive for small team like Force India or Lotus so to speak...If he come back , it must be for world champion quality car...not many available...
d) The top team seem like having a full seat for now...unless they kick schumi out and merc bring kimi in...there is no rumors on that, but possible...but also unlikely...ahhh what a statement....

If i am Kimi , i would jump into WRC next year...imagine having two world champion belt from two different dicipline...that would be plain awesome...

Doubt they want to kick Mark out...he is doing well and if they kick mark to bring balance to the team, it wont work. They still empolying vettel and bringing kimi in , they still have problem of having two world champion quality driver...

Hence yes, Renault would be the best choice... :)

Anyhow, anyone going to Singapore race this year? Should be interesting....sigh i wish i can be there...

should be very intresting, even recently when i drove at night, heavy rain pour and i have problem with visibility and it scared the shit out of me :)
Now with Formula 1 speed...i wonder how that work out....

btw - new rumors on kubica switch to ferrari and massa to sauber...that should leave a nice spot for kimi, and renault get to keep russian million with them...win win situation for them but that might leave komui or nick without a car to race...i think Peter will keep nick then pity komui...he is quite a good driver...

What is your view on the rumors of Jacques V buying out HRT...do u think he should return back to racing ?

Same thing for Massa as well he is still contracted for Ferrari next year.

It wasnt a special model for him per say. Its the LE SG GP edition. So Button got one free.
Aint it good to be a racing driver? Pretty girlfriend and get to drive cars for a living. Every boys dream.

Oh there is perks to being the gf of a racing driver as well, Jessica got herself a free watch also, with diamonds.

never like alonso but a well deserved win....
ehehehe

btw the lotus on fire is an awesome view...they put in great drama for F1 so far....the webber shunt to heiki, the HRT collison and flying cars, the drama in bahrain and it seem they like to stop the car on the final lap....hehehehhe...twice so far if i am not mistaken (bahrain and singapore)...hehehhe

so now, the battle continue more intensely...I hope the next race button would win, and vettel got another second,,,and the next race they change to another winner...creating 5 way battle up to the last race..now that would be fun...would also be more fun if unlikely driver win the race like schumi , kubica , rosberg or s.buemi...heheheh

Do you notice that the Singapore race usually take longer to finish it compared to other GP's even whitout the safety car? Yesterday race took nearly 2hrs to finish it.

yeap, singapore gp almost pass the 2hrs limit...hehehe

big havoc now with Proton & Group Lotus vs Tony Fernandez...I said suck to Tony...he got big headed this time...
I dont like Lotus with no real relation to real lotus...might as well get lotus name from restoren lotus....lagi better...ahhaha

but then again..that is only my opinion

I think as long as in the long run he can do justice to the Lotus name it should all be good.

As we know even in watches, brands like Breguet etc all has little to do with the original owner/family or group of people who started it.

Hope Tony and Mike can build it to a strong mid field team in the coming years and then we will see what happen.

Still far cry from the days of Senna though.

The SG GP was finished in 1hr57mins, still time for 1-2 laps.

To again show my support for Kimi, he still holds the track record for the Marina Bay circuit. Yay!

big havoc now with Proton & Group Lotus vs Tony Fernandez...I said suck to Tony...he got big headed this time...
I dont like Lotus with no real relation to real lotus...might as well get lotus name from restoren lotus....lagi better...ahhaha

But Team Lotus is the "original" Lotus F1 team when they were in F1 many years back, not Lotus Racing.  Proton claims ownership to the word Lotus in Lotus Racing which is valid as they own Lotus Group.  But that might not be the case with "Team Lotus" coz when Lotus tutup kedai years ago, someone else bought over the company Team Lotus Ventures which owns Team Lotus.  And now Tony owns Team Lotus Ventures, hence he has the rights to use the brand Team Lotus.

If Proton owns the name Team Lotus, why didn't they race as Team Lotus this year? Why create Lotus Racing?

Most probably someone from Proton made the decision to acquire Lotus Group and gave up on Team Lotus Ventures, thinking "What do we need a company that operates a F1 team for when we're not even racing in F1?".  ;D

I think Proton is going to be seen as a joke if they did indeed acquire Lotus Group, passed up on Team Lotus and is now claiming Tony has no rights to use Team Lotus simply because there is a Lotus in that word.  ;D

They must be worried that the world will see Team Lotus as a separate entity from Proton owned Lotus.  If I were them I would have just kept quiet about the whole issue and ride on the free publicity.  ;D

Heck, who do you think has done more for the Lotus brand in the past year, Proton or Tony Fernandes?

I also support Petronas's view that it's time for Malaysians to come out of their Jaguh Kampung mentality.  It's better to have more Malaysian brands in different teams than to have all Malaysian brands in one team.  My ten cents worth.

Go Red Bull!!!  :Dancing_banana:

Lotus to use Red Bull gearboxes in multi-year deal

It has been confirmed by Lotus Racing that the Norfolk-based outfit will be using gearbox and hydraulic systems provided by Red Bull Technology from next season onwards. The deal means that the 2010 newcomers will also be able to make use of the highly-effective, championship-leading blown diffuser device.

Having already confirmed its separation from current engine provider Cosworth prior to the end of the current campaign, a Renault announcement is expected from Lotus in due course although, for the time being, only its gearbox and hydraulics systems supplier has been confirmed.

“The announcement that we have reached a multi-year agreement with Red Bull Technology for the supply of our gearboxes and hydraulics from 2011 is obviously a massive step forward for us, both in engineering terms and as an expression of our ambitions for next year and for future championships,” commented Lotus’ Chief Technical Officer Mike Gascoyne.

“The gearbox / hydraulics package obviously plays a critical role in the performance of the car, not just on-track but in design and packaging terms, and this deal gives our design and aero teams a very exciting platform to work with.

“The removal of the double diffusers in 2011 will allow the whole grid to tighten up the rear bodywork and mechanical structures around the gearbox and this supply deal will allow us to capitalise on that with our 2011 car. Exciting times lie ahead!”

Thoughts were also shared by Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner. “We are very pleased about Lotus Racing's decision to use Red Bull Technology gearboxes and hydraulic systems from 2011,” he began.

“The fact that Red Bull Technology has been chosen to be a supplier to another team, despite its short history, demonstrates how much we have achieved since our first season. We very much look forward to working with Lotus Racing from 2011 onwards.”

I am neither a fan to both brand...I never like the virgin racing...and dont have much interest with Armin storm watches...but then again , under the f1 flag , it seem interesting to see both work as one...the following was copied from the source...

Armin Strom is pleased to announce a new long-term partnership with the Virgin Racing F1 Team. Under the name Armin Racing, the luxury watch brand becomes Official Timing Partner to the team from the beginning of the 2011 season.

Armin Racing is a joint venture between Swiss watch brand Armin Strom and UK based distributor Linder Luxury.

In partnership with Virgin Racing, Armin Racing intends to explore the synergies between Formula One and its values of craftsmanship, heritage, technology and challenging spirit to create a bespoke collection of exclusive Virgin Racing timepieces for retail series.

Behind the Virgin Racing Team stands the well known Team Principal John Booth and the CEO Graeme Lowdon. Of course, everything with the brand Virgin on it, Sir Richard Branson is involved too!

For once i respect Hamilton as early on during the safety car lap he already said, the condition is ok and wants to go racing while Webber and Button just bitches that visibility is a problem.

For me worst driver of the day was Sutil, made sooo many mistakes to me makes his drive at FI next year slim chances.

Driver of the day to me is Kobayashi, damn he is good, even after the collision with Sutil he still can drive on to collect points.

Now the last 2 races are going to be epic!

I am happy that schumi manage to make the best out of the situation... I was never a schumi fan till he come back...simply bcoz nowadays he is more a human than before...a struggling human being trying to achieve what seem almost impossible now....but then again, if he manage to turn things around next year...he will definitely be the best there is...for which , i am a big fan now....hehehe

Sutil - what was that...we all know it is like driving on ice...but yours seem like having a two pair of ice blade rather than actual tyre...he is all around the place

Komui once again prove what he is made of...surely not a sushi erand boy...ehehhe...gutsy driving...he really dont care....he push really hard....great fighting spirit...typical jap....For once i though yamamoto share similar DNA when i saw the qualifying result...but then again, .........

I read on news today, it was the longest GP since 1950's ...and i love every bit of it...the whole 3 hours...i am just glued there watching the tv....and how exciting to see how the championship evolve...The DNF for both RBR was a huge shock...looking at how cool vettel pacing through all 3 restart, i would imagine he could have been thinking of how to celebrate just before his race end

Heiki did a good job as well in getting his car in tact ...ensuring no major drama and cruise to a very good finish for em...

I think Hulkenberg did tried hard as well...knowing his future in balance, that was a great effort...though not very rewarding...

kubica was almost did not exist yesterday...not much highlight on him...the 5th place was almost without much drama and the rest of the race the camera was hardly on him...that is not good for the sponsor ...hehehe

was suprised to see the petronas backdrop...i wouldnt imagine they wanted to sponsor Korean GP...not much of petronas present in Korea... all this while and through out my frequent visit to South Korea...seriously not once i come across with Petronas brand....but then again the whole world watching it...so that is good enough for the brand...

So to the next two race and after that....arghhh i hate it ...months of waiting for the season to start.....

Renault F1 could become Lotus-Renault next season? The Lotus name saga continues!
We already have an F1 team in the grid with Lotus in its name but here’s something new, apparently the REAL Lotus is also making an entry into F1 via a tie-up with the current Renault team, as the French manufacturer continues its plans to scale down its involvement in the sport to perhaps being just an engine supplier.
Renault team boss Eric Boullier has confirmed ongoing talks with Lotus Cars, but he said that the team is also in talks with other potential sponsors. Most people are saying that Lotus Cars will likely become the title sponsor of the Renault team first, with a buy-over perhaps in the cards in the future.
The Renault team could just end up being called Lotus-Renault from next year onwards, which would pretty much be Dany Bahar’s dream come true, and if these plans were already on the table for quite some time now it would very much explain the problems that have come between Tony Fernandes’ Lotus Racing team and Lotus/Proton.
Renault will probably end up having its engines in both the “Lotus” teams on the grid. Interestingly, when news broke of the recent engine supply deal between Renault and Tony Fernandes’ Lotus Racing, the press releases from both companies do not mention the word Lotus at all – instead it is referred to as either 1Malaysia Racing Team (UK) Ltd or “Anglo-Malaysian team”, but perhaps this is something to do with the fact that the matter is still at court so they cannot use the name at the moment? The LR8 drink logo on the side of the Lotus Racing F1 car was also replaced by a question mark as seen in last weekend’s race.
Another interesting fact is that while all of this is happening at the exciting race track, in the real world where companies build 4-cylinder A to B vehicles for commute and not for racing, Lotus Cars’ owner Proton also seems to be cosying up with the Renault-Nissan Alliance.
Proton already uses a Renault 1.2 liter engine in the Proton Savvy, an enlarged Renault engine is also used in the Proton Satria Neo S2000 rally car, and most recently there have been rumors for the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s compact car platform and engine to be used to underpin an upcoming production car based on the Proton EMAS Concept.

So who do you guys think will be WDC this weekend?

My bet is on Alonso but i still think he has a 50/50 chance only.

If RedBull dont screw up then i support Vettel.

Vettel!!! But the betting man would put money on Alonso for sure.

Do you guys feel Mark Webber is just being taken lightly as a potential champion? Vettel needs 16pts to be champion but Webber only needs 9, yet in the last interview after the race, it looked like the interviewer totally ignored his chances and talked up Vettel's chances instead.

Congrats to Vettel! Finally this season he drove a flawless race and very deserving of the tittle.

I was very disappointed with Alonso's hand gestures at the end to Petrov, they were clearly racing and Petrov has every right to make it difficult for him to pass.

MS was really lucky to get out of the accident un-hurt.

3 world champions on the podium, how often do you see that?

Fauzi is currently contracted with Lotus and i think that the program is for people who are not yet in F1 (regardless of how old they are).

Nabil tested for Lotus also and maybe he isnt yet qualified to test for F1 since the highiest formula he raced in was only Formula BMW.

You know..i think even Fauzi wont have a full time seat ever, doesnt look like he is fast enough and maybe money issues also?

Team orders ban dropped
10 December 2010

The rule forbidding team orders has been deleted, the World Motor Sport Council announced today following its final meeting of the year in Monaco. The decision has been taken as a result of this year’s German GP, where it was shown to be unenforceable after Ferrari gave Felipe Massa a ‘coded’ message to let Fernando Alonso through.

The FIA reminded the teams though that any actions liable to bring the sport into disrepute can be dealt with under Article 151c of the International Sporting Code and any other relevant provisions.

A number of other amendments to the sporting and technical regulations were confirmed as well including amendments to the list of penalties Stewards are permitted to apply.

Greener engines confirmed by WMSC
10 December 2010

The World Motor Sport Council has announced, as expected, that F1 will switch to ‘greener’ engines from 2013 with the introduction of 1.6 litre four-cylinder turbo engines. It is hoped these will deliver a 35 percent reduction in fuel consumption.

‘The WMSC approved the introduction of a new specification engine from 2013, underlining the FIA’s commitment to improving sustainability and addressing the needs of the automotive industry’, read a statement from the FIA, the sports’ governing body.

‘Following dialogue with the engine manufacturers and experts in this field, the power units will be four cylinders, 1.6 litre with high pressure gasoline injection up to 500 bar with a maximum of 12,000 rpm.

‘The engines will deliver a 35 percent reduction in fuel consumption and will feature extensive energy management and energy recovery systems, while maintaining current levels of performance.

'In 2013, five engines will be permitted per driver, but each year after that the limit will be four.’

For 2011 meanwhile, in addition to rescinding the ban on team orders (see separate story), there was a ‘refinement to the principles already agreed concerning moveable rear wings’ and it has been decided that gearboxes must now be used for five consecutive races, instead of four.

The World Motor Sport Council will convene again on March 8 at the FIA’s Place de la Concorde in Paris.

i am not quite happy with the smaller engine concept...F1 should be about raw ultimate power..and high tech on engine...smaller engine good that it make sense to road car...but i would rather see road warrior on F1...heheh....

Lotus Racing drops Fauzy
13 December 2010

It has been confirmed that Fairuz Fauzy has been released by the 1Malaysia Lotus Racing - set to be named 'Team Lotus' in 2011 - after being involved with the Norfolk outfit as test and reserve driver this season.

Malaysian Fauzy made his debut in a Formula 1 car during practice for his home event at Sepang in April, replacing Heikki Kovalainen for Friday’s first free session before appearing again on four more occasions before the end of the year.

However, despite being expected to remain with the Tony Fernandes-run squad for five seasons, Kuala Lumpur’s Fauzy has now been released from his contract prematurely.

‘Just last week, Lotus Racing prematurely released Fairuz from what was supposed to be a five-year contract, a move some may see as a detriment to the team after the insight, experience and exposure Fairuz has gained over the last 12 months with Lotus Racing,’ reads a statement from the management of the 28-year-old.

‘Fairuz has decided to contemplate other options and offers he has been receiving as of late from other Formula 1 teams, which also affords him the opportunity and flexibility to compete in other racing series at the same time.’
