Not sure what is meant by basic entry watch but a few names on there will offend watch collectors.

I disagree with Seiko. They do have some nice, good quality, cheap and cheerful stuff that put a smile on your face...

Hi @niteowl bro.

Nothing particular. Just read this write-up of watch ranking in other website and wanted to know our mwf shifu here agree or disagree this ranking.
  :)

Note: I am a curious old man, just want to have fun and know more anything about watches.

Weird post/list mixing fashion brands with some well established ones with a long history and well-priced collections (Casio, Citizen, SEIKO are the obvious brands).

i think it is a bit subjective when viewing the list as it is depending on what you are looking for in a watch. It could be brand (like AP, PP, Rolex) or design (DW, Nomos) or maybe the movement within it (COSC, Master Chronometer, GPS).

As long as you are happy with the watch on your wrist, whether is is a Seiko or a Patek, that is all that matters...

Quick question to the OP. Do you agree that these watches are a level below basic entry watch? Since you have asked this question, I’m actually quite tickled to see what you think.

Also, the list is in alphabetical order, which does not really signify a hierarchy nor a ranking of any sort. Which you said you got from a watch ranking write up from another website.

And lastly, what is your definition of a basic entry watch? Because for someone like me who makes only a few thousand ringgit a month, my basic entry watch is a Seiko presage worth around RM $3,500. Anything above RM $8,000 is luxury to me. Maybe for someone else who makes RM$50,000 a Rolex would be his basic entry watch.

I think the title is misleading.

They are not below basic watch. They are just not luxury watches and most of them are priced as such.

I think its quite snobbish to say that these are not watches or below them. They are. Ingersoll do make decent watches, chinese movement, but their Skeleton watch that i use as a beater has no equal in terms of design in the luxury watch segment. Look it up, The Herald. Find me a luxury watch that looks like that.

THe same goes for Timex. I used to have one. Takes a licking and keeps beating. Dropped it many times. Kept ticking. I dropped my sub once and in the service center it went.

Seiko is there? My goodness.

Those are watch brands. Just that they don't play in the luxury arena ( Seiko does with their GS ), but that doesnt make them "a level below watches". I enjoy all watches, from a Seiko 5, to a Lange 1.

It is like saying a Honda is not a car, because its not a Merc. Snobbish much?

That list is compiled by this company as a marketing tool to drive audience. Pretty evident when you have this statement "We encourage clicking the brand links and visiting their websites to learn about their history, their innovations and watch models available for sale."
That being said, i believe collectors dont need validation on their hobbies and the "you win liao lah" attitude to any hobbyst speaks volumes of ones inadequacies.

Hello cocas
I looked on the site you mentioned and every thing is ranked regarding price of product

I personally own Gavox and as all micro it is not the price that define the quality but the fact it is a micro brand I can make more quality for more money , be innovative and bring new idea

Eg.  The Gavox Aurora is a unique piece of technology with no less than 2 world innovations
That other brands didn't have thought about it.  Same for  the avidiver with 1 world innovation

Cheers

I think this ranking is highly subjective and as per other forummers, they definitely just did it via price segments. I find it funny they did that, then had some with a 'star' on them.

If anything, it doesn't really give a true reflection of horological heritage, workmanship, brand equity and true value-for-money. I guess that's the risk with any list.

Just don’t think too much about rankings, just buy it because you like the look, quality of movement and finishing.

Seiko should not be in that list imo. They may be perceived cheap or below basic level in Malaysia but their brand is a mismatch on the luxury watch section. They’re kind of a heavyweight in brand power (GS, Credor, and those vintage Lord Marvels & KS) and GS is much regarded as an anti-luxury watch as they can’t hold their value post purchase.

Most other brands listed are fashion brands though. Some brands might piss some watch addicts off here so be careful.

A big number of watch brands you listed there are not worthy to be a entry level watch lol,a lot of those are just pure fashion with no heritage which imo is very important while picking for a watch, tho to me seiko will be the best among the bunch you listing out there
