Bangkok Visit - meeting Parkorn
« on: October 06, 2013, 07:43:01 PM »
after seeing our neighbor country friend,

Mr. Parkorn

registered and posted his watch creation in MWF,

http://www.malaysiawatchforum.com/index.php/topic,10127.msg92424.html#msg92424

i was thinking he is such a passionate guy, as usual i google around to find out more about him,

1. to know more about some one in this region doing what we thought is tough - making some watches' part
2. to check whether he genuinely sharing. ( its mod obligation )
3. to explore opportunity to work with MWF

i PMed him to know what is he doing and asking whether he welcome my visit to his workshop
his prompt reply and positive response, make me clicking the mas and air asia portal right away....

 :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana:

after a mth + wait, finally i was there in Bangkok last weekend

Mr. Parkorn is kind enough to share his background, his small workshop.... allowing me to take what ever photo there...

from a hotelier --- becoming someone who repair watches in shopping center - to now a full time watch and part maker
He is dedicating his life into something he love - WATCHES

inspired by CORUM coin watch

he started to explore the possibility of making his own watch dial with THAI coin
with some basic tooling, he made his dream come through

he started with cutting watch into half - make it thinner and keeping the side he wanted

then he even making the skeleton dial it his own, with this

to turn the dial into

he never stop there, from there he started exploring of making his own watches.... a simple CNC was his next...

with the first basic CNC, he now able to custom make silver/bronze/gold
dial

date disc

rotor

he even designed and make his watch hands, a PARKORN hands

now he is into designing and making the simple bronze case, buckle, etc
remember the bronze case watch he posted?
these are the parts

crown

case

buckle

there u go, the lego not fix

u can see some dragon dial on his website, he shared with us how it was made, the dragon was actually hand engraved by a local Thai artist
he made a mold from this and molded the silver/bronze dial with that

(sorry - picture wasnt clear, i took it in the dark )

these are some PARKORN watches i linked from his website...

hopefully i can plan something with him in the very near future for MWF

Koh Kun Khrab, tqvm Mr. Parkorn !

PS - Thank you CoCo ( our MWF member who back to his home soil now in Bangkok ) for all the helps

Nice to know that we have asians that are passionate about watchmaking and be able to do what Mr.Parkorn does... he deserves all the support...

That is extremely cool.

The work on the rotors are splendid.

How did he do it with just a handsaw? Truly speechless.

There is only 1 word to describe this...
Respect....
I think the next limited series MWF watch with a special customized rotor is a fantastic idea.
Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

Keris is a No No..
Durian is OK lhh
Coin dial depends on which coin
Tiger won't suit everyone with feng shui issues...

And thank you Chris for sharing the nice pics and story.

that is great skeletonising work on those dials!
Each handmade watch is sold with part of the watchmakers soul. The effort to make the watch perfectly flawless like a gem, takes a lot of the watchmakers concentration. You pay for the "Loving attention" they give to each movement and watch.
