Nomos, another German brand base in glashutte, strong DNA with all their watches design...
Always thought of getting one but never hv chance to really play with it
So any1 can share ?
-
I'm very eager to listen too.
Especially would like to know the difference between Tangente & Tangomat, from an owner side of perspective.
-
It's quiet in here.
Bump.
-
Nomos is an excellent brand. Started off by modifying Peseux movts replacing the Swiss stacked bridge with German 3/4 plate and decorated with sunburst wheels, Glashutte stripes..
Subsequently came out with their own in-house movt.
An excellent and gorgeous piece was the tourbillon made for Wempe.
Typical bauhaus styling...maybe too plain for some
Unfortunately it is not available in Malaysia or Singapore.
Singapore used to have an AD but it was taken back as sales was slow.
Nearest is Hong Kong.
Hence not many owners and not many appreciate its fine German workmanship but austere styling...
I'm targetting 1-2 pieces from their collection.. on my next HK trip...its been on my radar for last several years
Rumours that a local AD was to have been appointed but I've been hearing that for last 1 yr.
-
Watch is nice, but the smaller case plus very long lugs wear strange to me.

I actually find the small case pleasing. I guess more "wearable" for my tiny wrist. Thou I have not seen one in real life yet.
-
Smaller case is fine. Its the unsually long lugs that makes it wear strange.
When you see one in real life and try it on your wrist you will understand haha.

Haha. Yea, you are right, I must try it on in real life. :)

Hope this helps.
I've got a Tangente and a Club Automat.
Tangente basic specs are 35mm case with Alpha hand wound movement. Club Automat besic specs are 40 mm case with Epsilon automatic movement.
I really enjoy both watches. Despite the same cases (by today's standard), my view is that they tend to wear quite big on the wrist due to the thin bezel. I have a 7 inch wrist. My view is that Nomos is a great value proposition for an in-house manufacture watch.
Despite there not being any AD in Malaysia, they have an e-shop where you can purchase the watch you are keen on. I believe shipping is either free or included in the price.
My dealings with them have been most pleasant and they are very responsive as I had to send my Tangente in for service. Also you can request for their catalog and they will happily send it to you.
I hope to purchase one of the Tangomat GMT in the future.
Meanwhile I will continue to enjoy these 2 watches.

There use to be an AD in KLCC a few years back (under Sincere Group) but sadly they closed due to poor sales. The shop use to carry brands that were not common to Malaysia. Sad really.
As for Nomos, I like the watches, the Bauhaus design, the movement, the build quality and the price.
-
I have the 38mm Ludwig and absolutely adores it.
Nomos is a rare manufacturer...with a very rare trait among watch manufacturer's today, which is;Honesty.
I always feel they are very upfront with their products and offerings with very reasonable pricing for all that they are offering. they are very "bauhaus" in both their design and packaging. Living and breathing the philosophy to the extreme.
In fact i love the gaps between the case and strap. I seriously do not see what is the fuss about curved ends and etc....
Wears great, looks great, great pricing, and a company that puts you in their database and constantly sends you flyers, cards, updates all the way from Glashutte.

Thanks guys for all the responses.
Seems like almost everyone is giving a thumb up for Nomos.

Like the Ahoi. Online price does not exclude VAT for buyers outside euro zone.

Yes, Ahoi's is very nice too.
Just that I cannot get over the name. Sound like someone who sell kueh teow at mamak stall. ;D

Thnx guys
Pls bring UR nomos out in next gtg
I happened to visit watch exhibition in Central chitlom last Sunday
They hv most model on the display I guess
Unless u look carefully, most model look the same
It's small but still very legible due to its simplicity
Not all model same lug
But it look ok to me
-
I support chris suggestions..
beelim, Terrence2 and whoever owns Nomos, do organise a gtg for the rest of us to appreciate your Made in Glashutte watches...
chris,
I wasn't aware that Nomos is sold by AD in Thailand.
Do you know who is the AD, coz you only mentioned a watch exhibition in Chid Lom.
Thnx guys

Love the stylish and simple watch from Nomos...nice wrist watch here..though it small 38mm but look quite rugged also...
-
Glad to see Nomos fans here in Malaysia. Just got mine earlier this year after scouting for a watch for some 3 months. It was either the Tangomat or the Club and went with the Club in the end. Here it is.

Care to share where you got your Nomos from?
Thanks..
-
Former user of Nomos watch. Lovely in house movement with classical german decoration. Ran very good as well. Thing that annoyed me is the long lugs on its watches, a 36mm nomos would look odd on my wrist as its lug were wider than my wrist. The strap was too long for me so i ended up wearing a nato strap as temporary solution till i resold it to another person.
Overall, i think it is low profile brand but have a very good value in offering german watchmaking
Here my old wrist shot of the watch

I got my Nomos from Wempe, London. Tried to find an AD in Malaysia but to no avail. Singapore was the closest AD but my parents were in the UK at the time so I bought it through them.
You can buy them online if you want, I changed the back of my watch and the Nomos guys are very easy to deal with.
-
Came across a Nomos Tangomat GMT XL during my Japan trip.
Since I've been looking for a Nomos, the last being in Hong Kong 2 yrs ago, I tried on every Nomos and this particular piece 'spoke to me'…
On paper and with prior intention, I had targeted either the Tangente ruthenium dial with Roman fonts & date OR the Ahoi.
But after trying on every Nomos model in the shop including the 2 pieces mentioned above, this was the only piece that looked good on my wrist and gave me a smile…
Being 40mm which is the largest of all Nomos, the size suited my wrist more than the other 38mm models.
Wearing it this morning on my flight back from Narita to KL
Will do a more in-depth review including a shot of the rear beautiful movement over the next few weeks…

Congrats on the purchase! Would really like to see the back you have since to me the movements are the highlight of Nomos's watches.

Being a new broom, I'm still wearing the Nomos Tangomat GMT from Saturday, so here's a quick iphone shot of the open case back showing the in-house Xi caliber taken at office as per your request.
Very precise so far but true accuracy will have to wait till after a month.
Heat blued hour, minute, second hands against an off white dial looks much nicer in the metal...

What's the indicator at 9 o'clock for?
-
This weekend will take proper pics instead of the poor smudgy iPhone shots..
There is a pusher button above the crown. Works like my Reverso GMT if you remember me showing you.
When you press the pusher, the hour hands advance by 1 hr. The 9 o'clock indicator tells you whether its +1 or +3 or -4.
The 3 o'clock indicator remains the same i.e shows your home time whereas the hour hand shows the new local time.
What's the indicator at 9 o'clock for?
-
very interesting watch ! too bad i'm not a regular traveler else i'be very itchy by now
nonetheless, such a beauty fully in-house watch is really

Arrived late last week:
Club Automat 40mm, Epsilon movement. Superb watch, finishing and packaging is top notch. Watch strap is a tad bit too long - I'm on the first hole and I usually wear my watches a bit loose and have a above average wrist size.

I've had Damasko, Archimede, GO x 2, Erhard Junghans for awhile and recently added a Nomos...
The big one, ALS is still elusive... Germans make up abt 1/5 of my collection

Just wondering, which one would you guys choose?
or this
(http://www.nomos-store.com/out/pictures/1/zuerich_anthrazit_front.png)
Any other similar germans for the same price range?
-
Its a very personal choice but for me I would go for white or off white for simple dress watches, esp those on leather straps. I find that sporty and casual watches look better in black or dark colours.
Other German watches with in-house movements in this price range?
Casual sporty watches would be Damasko but dress watches?... none that I know of..
Nomos is a unique German manufacture..
German made watches with Swiss ETAs? plenty...
-
I guess white would be dressier; but if its anything like the Tangente then it's more silver than white. Haven't molested a Zurich in the flesh yet. Although the black dial do make the indices and hands pop out more..
Hopefully the mkts will be kind to me in 2014 so I can afford one of these babies 8)

Post some wrist shots
sad i didn't get any :(

how da price there, is it competitive against other market?
-
Is it cheaper buying from an AD in Bangkok or direct from Nomos online?

Received their latest Nomos catalogue from Germany this evening.

Wohh super cool! I like their watch photography, They sure have a quirky sense of humour
-
Zürich blaugold
my personal view after owning the watch for just few hours...
Diameter 39.7 mm -
ideal. no complaints at all. maybe due to the design and lugs, it is a proof that one does not need to go beyond 40mm
Dial - outstanding. the blue factor sealed the deal for me.
Strap: Shell Cordovan black - got to be honest here...I am not a fan...maybe due to the age factor, I prefer something of a `softer' and less `crude' nature.
No pictures on this post though coz it is almost impossible to get a decent one given its blue dial (reflection issues using a handphone camera). Pathetic attempts seen in the Watch Gallery section.
That is all folks! At the end of the day, it is just a watch...and no regrets given the price paid, no regrets at all!
-
most us here love Nomos, but which model you prefer? and which would be your 2nd, 3rd buy??
for me:
1st: Tangomat
2nd: Ahoi
Then I would wait and see what model is coming out :Laughing_on_floor:
-
Tangente and Ludwig
-
I've fallen madly in love with the Tetra. Too bad it's described as "feminine" although it is supposed to be unisex. ;)
-
Haven't paid much attention to Nomos but keep hearing it recently. During the Vintage GTG, JOS said he is planning to change his with a special one. Then I came across an online article where the writer said he was discussing with the owner of a >50 years old watch shop in Frankfurt and they both agreed that Nomos is the one to watch out for.
While window shopping at Schildergasse in Cologne today, I was looking at few Nomos models and was awe struck by the Lambda. So elegant yet simplistic and we'll-balanced . But the price stopped my hands from going for the wallet. EUR 13k+... although I found out later that it is in white gold.
That raised my curiosity and have been reading up on their website and MWF.
-
So which one is JOS getting ?
-
Has anybody bought this watch in japan ? Is it cheaper ? Vat claimable ?
-
I heard the watch shop in Bangsar Village (Wof W?) are planning to bring Nomos in to Malaysia. Hope its true.
-
I manged to find this while on a trip to Germany. Lovely, understated, clean and classy. I changed out the original strap to a croc leather one as intended for this to be a dress watch...

Wow nice, is this 35 or 38mm?
-
This is the 38. Here is an old shot to show the slim profile of the watch...it really sits well under the cuff as a dress watch. It's light and really comfortable.

That is very slim. Yours is the SS version?

Yes it is...can only afford SS...this is the Orion series and it only comes in SS. Hand wind only, which is why it is so slim

I meant to say this is the SS back instead of sapphire back thus the slimmer profile by at least 1.5mm
-
Anyone bought from Nomos online before? Do we need to pay the VAT?
-
Email them informing that you are in Malaysia, and tell them that VAT is not applicable in Malaysia.
They will then update the price for you minus VAT.

Sharing the reply from Nomos on the VAT. It seems we have to pay VAT if buying online.
---
Thank you for your e-mail. When ordering in the NOMOS Store, you receive the articles with customs duties and tax already paid. That means: the prices quoted on the product pages include value-added tax, customs duties, and all other price components of the respective product. German VAT does not apply and therefore we do not offer refunds.
The only way to receive a VAT refund would be to have the watch shipped to Germany and export it yourself to Malaysia - you will need to have the form stamped by German customs at the border. In this case, we could offer to refund the VAT.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us - we are always happy to be of assistance.
Cordial greetings from Glashuette,
Sophie Grosch

Hi guys. I'm interested to buy a Nomos Club. Since we dont have any AD here, i tried to look on the i internet and i found a website that looks quite reputable and trusted. But the amount of shipping they quote is too expnsive and it takes 3 months to reach here. Is this normal for international shipping?
-
Why don't you just get it from the nomos official online store?
-
I emailed them before, they said if i buy from them i need to pay for the Germany tax also which is 19%. Thats too much. Haha. If 6% i can consider.
-

Any shop selling new nomos in Msia???can recommend ???
-
Always plan to add one Nomos into collection, after seeing much of the review I think is time to pull the trigger! :Laughing_on_floor: ;D
-
I've been looking for a Nomos for quite some time, but they don't seem to have any retailers in Malaysia (do correct me if I'm wrong).
Tried on a piece when I was in Singapore and my urge to get one just got a whole lot stronger.
-
sorry diverge a little....has anyone bought a Nomos Strap for their non Nomos watch? Are the dimensions true to their specs? thinking of getting one of their straps for my reverso...
-
I've been eyeing the Nomos Metro Gangreserve, anyone has any experience with this watch?
-
I will go to Singapore end of March and I really want to try on the new Neomatik Nachtblau versions of the Tangente and Metro. And also the 36.7mm Ahoi Neomatik version. I might really buy one.
Anyone here has tried those models recently?

Nomos, another German brand base in glashutte, strong DNA with all their watches design...
Always thought of getting one but never hv chance to really play with it
So any1 can share ?
Nomos great German watch maker, often offer wide range of simple and clean looks watches. Too impress by it design in generally.
-
I have a Nomis Ahoi and overall perfect, movement, casing except the strap. It was made by horse leather, soft but easy wear out.
-
I'm interested in Nomos but sadly couldn't find any shop that carry them.

The closest AD to us are in Singapore. I bought mine 2nd hand from a seller over there.

Hello to all sifus here,
I’ve been eyeing to get myself a Nomos for quite sometime too - but my quick question, where can we send the watch for service/repair since there’s no AD here in Malaysia? Back to Glashutte?
Appreciate if you could share your experience. Thanks heaps!

Nomos somehow it's quite a Beaty with simplicity in mind
-
From my research, you would have to send back to Glashutte. However, you can first reach out to Nomos via email and they will advise you on the exact address to ship it to, and also the clear procedural steps.

I love Nomos. Excellent brand.
I will get one will day.
-
Strong German and Bauhaus DNA. But the price is getting crazier compared to 10 years ago. Almost doubled.
-
Nomos is great. I have Ahoi but I don’t like the original strap, easy damaged
-
Sorry bro, it’s too much over orice
-
Have been looking at Nomos for a while now.
From online reviews the watches seemed to be very good quality.
Aesthetics wise they are gorgeous :D :D :D wish i can get one soon.
Pricing a little on the high side,

Considering acquiring a Nomos to add to my collection, but am undecided between the tangente, orion and ludwig. Keen on having the blue hands, but can't seem to make up my mind about the dial and markers - they all look attractive
-
Good news people, we can finally get our hand on Nomos easier. Just spotted it started selling in Watches of Switzerland the garden!

I would really want to get a square / rectangle watch. Considering between a tetra or Cartier tank. My wrist size is somewhere 6.2 inch. Could really use recommendation or suggestions!

Excellent choices, both. The aesthetics are fairly distinct, so I reckon it would depend if u like the clean Bauhaus starkness or the more genteel Tank. Also, depending on the model of the Tank, ur looking at rather different price points. No reverso in ur consideration though?
-
That’s a really good point, both of the mentioned are actually entirely different feel and design language, on wrist it just never a Apple to Apple comparison.
I am looking into the tank must L size. It does click a lot with me on the dial design, overall dimension and sizing, loooks very understated though.
Tried my hand on reverso. Enjoyed the dual face than the mono face for some reason, proabbly the thickness and the design on the reverso clicks with me better on the dual face - unfortunately that’s a differnt price range overall from what I wanted to spend on currently.

Yeah I get what u mean, different price point di that reverso. Both watches are understated I'd say, both from brand name and looks standpoint, especially so because they are not typically as well known as the usual suspects. Personally I prefer the Tetra - Nomos design language has always been interesting to me. And I've always been partial to German watches somehow. Good luck on the hunt and don't forget wristshots later!

Agree with the point on Nomos's design, its just very unique and standardized across all of the their series. Something that i would really want to own one (tried tetra and club, both looks amazing). I will keep everyone posted on this ;) ;)
-
Nomos is great, but the strap quality is just so so only.....
-
I actually heard about Nomos from the legendary Philippe Dufour on a hodinkee interview. It's one of the top 3 brands he recommends, other two being Rolex & Lange
-
Used to own 1 Nomos Ludwig , Bauhaus like feeling and very slim watch, very suitable for my small wrist.

The lugs on those seem rather long, do u find that there's a bit of overhang ka on the wrist, or was it negligible?

No I dont, I prefer to wear the watch close to my wrist, not swinging around. My wrist size is 16mm.

Not sure anyone is still interested, but there's finally an AD in Msia selling NOMOS now. Saw a shop in Gardens the other day that's carrying the brand.
-
Yeah the Gardens outlet is quite nice, they have a decent selection to try out on. Which is actually a really good thing because now I know their huge ass lug-to-lug measurement is for real! :Laughing_on_floor:
They had this really sweet neomatik piece with an arabic (like, literally!) numerals that was very tempting.

The lug to lug on the campus model is unreal, makes a 38 fits more like a 41, which is a bit disappointing because I really like the form factor if not for the huge lugs.
This Arabic dial is absolutely beautiful

Dare I say Nomos has the best looking open case movement. And buttery smooth winding experience too.
