Kyoto updates website for Muslim visitors

In December 2013, Kyoto City partnered with the Kyoto Muslim Association to create and develop an innovative website dedicated to Islamic people visiting Kyoto. “Muslim Friendly Kyoto” is available in four languages (including, English, Arabic, Turk and Melayu). And under the supervision of the Kyoto Muslim Association, features useful information and specific tips, such as how to find Muslim-friendly locations in Kyoto including certified halal restaurants.

Since September 2014 the website has undergone extensive updates, such as brand new additional halal certified restaurants in Kyoto. These include Yakiniku Restaurant which offers KMA certified halal Wagyu (Japanese beef) called Kyo Tankuro, allowing Muslim diners to enjoy the delicacy of traditional Japanese BBQ grilled meat.

New restaurants / activities in Kyoto include:

- Ganko Sanjo Honten, (Sushi / Japanese cuisine)

- Honke Tankuma Honten, (Kyo-ryori)

- Cafe/Restaurant Aqua Blu, The Westin Miyako, (Buffet breakfast)

- Nanzan-Kyoto Kitayama, (Yakiniku/Japanese grilled meat/BBQ dishes)

- Cooking Sun, (Japanese Cooking School)

Additionally, the website now features an option where visitors can bookmark to receive new information from the website, so they are kept automatically updated.

The website currently offers the following information for Muslim Visitors:

- Cuisine in Kyoto and restaurant list

- Muslim-friendly accommodations

- Qibla (Direction of the Sacred Kaaba in Makkah), approved by the Kyoto Muslim Association

- Category chart description for restaurants
