MWF Kota Kinabalu GTG 2014 - theme - Food and Rolex
« on: April 17, 2014, 11:27:23 AM »
Before the official photographer post his full report here, i will start with more mouth watering photos.

first of all - thank you HANZ, our mod in KK
for the hospitality, time, effort, sweat, money, knowledge and life expriences sharing....
and to make this

MWF GTG in KK for first time happen

my stomach wasnt good before the flight take off. wife reminded me to be careful with the food...

but, being me, no food no life

day 1
so our first stop

the KK famous Sang Yuk Mian , KK common dialect is hakka, so read this in Hakka...
we call it G yuk fen in KL, or pork noodle

so looking at the size of this bowl....  and the amount of ingredient was absolutely no joke !
imagine i had 3 breakfasts in the morning (including 2 nasi lemak meal) and having food poisoning the night before and in the morning....

but after the first taste of the soup sweetness, then the timely cook tender liver... i can understand why it is so popular and automatically my body switch to extra stomach space mode!

while typing this, i seriously miss this.......... the crunchy tendon! i not gonna get this in Peninsular!
the dry noodle was heavenly good as well, lets those who ate it share, i just manage to curi some from Jacky bowl.

after going round the town, some watch shop surveying

we were here at the seaside... relaxing and waiting our friend from Kuching

dare not take so much of the satay here knowing my stomach poison wasnt clear... i still enjoy the view, scenery, wind... and

at night, the highlight of the day, SEA FOOD dinner, everything is fresh here !

clear steamed green dragon groupa

garlic steamed KK geoduck

boiled prawn

ginger spring onion stir fried clam (sa bak)

deep fried softshell crab

butter cheese fried baby lobster

steamed/boiled ' tong fung lo '
for the klang valley folks.... this is hard to get great seafood as well

after the seafood, we went for DPKONG favorite session

before we get on bed, guess what? eat again

Day 2
breakfast by request by our MWF founder...

Tuaran Mee

watch shop survey continue

not just window shopping afterall.

lunch

Hilltop beef noodle

Tea.... how come i forgot to take photo of the lovely toasted bread with Teh C

GTG is at Sutera Harbour
watches photo to be posted by our photographer.... SOON

preview here

we enjoy it very much, spent easily 3-4 hours
from noon

till the sun is set

dinner
after discussion, we decided to go for KK Dai Chao, the popular odinary restaurant where the KK ppl usually eat with family

the signature seafood pot

sweet and sour pock (gu lo yuk)

lemon sauce chicken

bittergout stir fried with pork

sawi stir fried with pork

char siew fried egg

lotus root and groundnut soup

different way of cooking(except the Gu lo yuk), different taste, nothing to shout but you will like it and dont mind eating every month or week

night session here

the time square

meeting another 2 members who missed the GTG session, happy to molest this WG PP

Day 3
Breakfast

Dao Ma Chet ( hakka )
it surprised me to find the prawn and fish stomach in the soup...

Gaya Morning market walk
thank you Jacky for sponsoring MWF Store the roasted coffee bean

dont worry, i will make you a latte from the bean you sponsored Jacky !

lunch

seafood mixed soup...

stir fried vege (bak choy)

the star of the meal! teo chew fried giant groupa

serve with noodle, this locally made mee was really yummy

before we left for KKIA, we were hosted by HANZ, in his mansion! we will never forget the session there in your house!
i enjoy the beer, the laughter, you guys belief, experiences......

Bye Bye KK, really wish to come back again
we should go up to the mount
as well boating to the sea next time

Maybe we should rename the forum as 'MWFF' - Malaysia Watch Food Forum instead?

Besides watch, there's always FOOD in between!  :Laughing_on_floor:
Of course women don't work as hard as men cos they always get it right for the first time :-p

Nice 5711/1A daily beater, just like mine, wearing it daily & collecting scratch & dent over the last 5 years.

I don't think that's a 5711/1A, it's a white gold 3711/1G  :)

Hi bro Hanz079, please correct me if I am wrong, didn't realise PP produce precious metal bazel + precious metal bracelet together?

You are somewhat correct in that Patek rarely releases a full gold watch with bracelet but as Hanz mentioned, it is a 3711/1G-001 with caliber 315. That is a rare piece said to be made for one year only.

Chris, on the Sang Yoke Mian, this shop has a branch in Puchong, along Jalan Puchong from OKR towards IOI Mall, opposite TM building. Become my regular makan place already.

Yes. Heard so!

They serve the tendon?

(Pure taste to taste comparison, I prefer the oug one frankly, but the tendon texture is unforgettable)

Can someone who knows the OUG sang yuk mien plse pm me the name of shop and location plse.
I've tried the one in Puchong recommended by swleong…. yummy

Want to try the OUG for comparison…
apparently there are 2 styles of sang yuk mien…one purely with sliced meat and the other with meat and spare parts..

If Danny's watch photos still not uploaded, this thread will be food thread already  :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor:

Don't think OUG has Sang Yuk Mian if not mistaken. I guess the one Chris mentioned should be the normal local type, just right opposite OUG indoor wet market, and quite famous.

Thanks swleong,
I'm sure u know abt the 2 diff types of the original KK sang yuk mien, one purely with meat and the other with meat and spare parts.
Diff ppl like diff versions.
I like the purely meat version. The Puchong place will be my regular weekend place from now..

The KL versions are the regular pork noodles, totally different recipe..
