All things QUARTZ
« on: August 24, 2019, 09:31:58 AM »
Hi all,

Creating a new general topic that specifically looks at an important subset in the watch collecting fraternity that should see more exposure in MWF.

Personally, I have started to take more interest in the quartz world.

Anyone has something to share about this?

I have a couple of quartz watches mostly Seikos. Since they are the leader in this field which almost collapse the Swiss watch industry in the 70s.

I do not know if there is any watch maker association in Malaysia that take care of the interest of watchmaker? It seems that the young now may not have the interest and patience in this field and number of trained watch maker is going to decrease by the days.

So I predict in the future the cost of servicing a mechanical watch will be high. Hence ppl will buy lesser of the mechanical watches. Eventually ppl will buy more of quartz watches or smart watches as they can be "pakai and buang" and the cost of service is minimal and easier.

Thats what in my mind Bro Meoramri

For the last couple of years I’ve started to appreciate the precision and the various functionalities available in quartz watches.

The tech involved and the affordability factor are the attractors in my case.

Pulled trigger on this Evil Panda 1962 from Dan Henry on last Friday and received on Monday. The design looks similar to Universal Geneve Compax Evil Nina and sub dial like the Rolex Daytona Paul Newman.
Running Seiko caliber VK63 meca-quartz. Will see how reliable the movement is, since I’m not so into quartz watch and it was my second quartz watch collection.

Thanks bro. This watch able to suit most occasion.

My ex Japanese colleague wearing a G Shock Riseman which attracted me into this hobby. But up until now I still don’t have any G Shock due to too many variations makes me hard to choose.

In Quartz segment, there are 2 types of watches: Digital and Analog. Nothing beats Casio when it comes to Digital watches. Also, they have some very rugged looking models in their Edifice lineup.

I can appreciate the pure pursuit for accuracy. Love what Citizen did with the Calibre 0100

But for ~RM30k what were they thinking. Really hope it drops to a more attainable price

I would love to know the cost of making the 0100. I suspect, it is high because the technology. At the moment we need to wait for the manufacturing precesses and facilities to mature before we get to see some price reduction. History has shown us that’s how the pricing was when quartz watch started back in the 1970s. We just need to wait.

Citizen has another interesting quartz design. The Citizen BN0211-50E Promaster Tough is one solid piece. The casing is monocoque (only one major opening from the front i.e. no accessible case back).
