A) Accord-Alpine 7990CDA F#1 Status HU+ Brax X2400.2 GE/TRU Hammer H-1 mono amps+SEAS Lotus comps and sub+TRU F1 active crossover.
B) Kancil-Eclipse CD8061 HU+ Tube Butler Blue Hybrid Tube amp+ Dynaudio 220MKII comps+a/d/s/ A8 subs+ Orion CS-1 active crossover.

Haha i remember your config. I use the same user name there as well.

Right now i have Alpine 9887, MB Quart Q series comp, Helix Deep Blue 12in running off a PPI 4 channel amp.

So you are running your comps via passives and bridge the remaining 2 channels to power the sub??
Tuning via the amp's built in crossover??

Yup on that config. As for the tuning i think its done from the HU xover.

One thing though i find strange.

My friends car had a 13in Focal sub (duno specs) running 2 channel bridged before, the sub was barely noticeable.

Then when he transfer his equip to a new car, all hardware the same, the sub now hits damn hard!
Musically good or not another matter.
Might this be that the new installer just crank up the gain?

My PPI amp is rated at 125rms per channel, so bridged i dont think its a problem.
Right now the sub gain on my HU is set to max and only on certain tracks where the engineer sets the bass strong only i can hear it hitting.

Asked the tuner bout this but his explanation i dont understand much. Says something its tuned to have same "volume" as my comp wor.

I never itchy hands to put the gain more la...so i left it all this while.

Any comments on that ah?

A) Your friend's case:
The tuner might have crank up the amp gain and also might have reversed the phase on the sub.

B) Your case:
What he meant is level matching in order to achieve linearity but from what you describe, he has not achieved this.

The sub does more than satisfying those bass heads .
Rather its purpose is to complete the frequency spectrum produce from the CD via the HU.
It adds warmth to the music, more so, on the vocals.
In order for it to sound good, cut off frequency setting, phasing and enclosure size are very important in order for it to "blend" well with the comps and if done correctly, will create a total front stage with great imaging and seperation.

Cool, when we have chance to meet up lets exchange ideas.
So far only grip i have with my system is the sub, i feel not performing to its potential.
My comps at the front am very happy with it already.

Where did you get your system tuned previously?

The problems on your sub can be:
1) Enclosure size and design
2) Amp input gain
3) phasing
4) LPF
5) Leaking enclosure if sealed design.

I could not find any tuner who can tune my system satisfactory so I started tuning by myself since 2002.
Before this, the tuner is a total crap but I do not wish to mention his name here.

Spread out all your five fingers and slowly push the cone in-if the cone can be easily pushed in, then there is sign that the enclosure is leaking.

For tuning I use phase checker to make sure the midbass and tweeters are in phase.
Then tune by using 3 of my reference CDs, by ears.

I got a piece an advice from a friend own an audio gadget. What kind of setting you put in, have to install sound absorber all over your car. It is pricey though.. :o
