do you need the gmt function? do you like the polished center links on gmt or brushed on sub? glidelock on sub or easy link on gmt? 100m vs 300m waterproof? thinner case on gmt vs thicker on sub? diver bezel or gmt bezel?

These are questions that you need to answer to know which watch suitable with you ;D

If your wrist can carry the 116610, it would be very easy to switch to the 116710. The 116710 will feel more comfortable as the caseback is just that little bit flatter and the clasp sans glidelock is not so long. As much as I like having the adjustability of the glidelock, I rarely use it. And the easylink extension on the 116710 is more than adequate for me. The bezel on the GMT is just that little bit more “busy” looking, but really serves its purpose. That is...if you travel into different time zones a lot la...I really do love the green GMT hand and the subtle green GMT master text. Which is the reason why I picked the LN over the BLNR. To each his own...if given a choice between the two, I would pick the 116710 over the 116610. The only reason why I have them both, is so that my wife and I can have a “couple watch” which looks similar, but different. If that makes any sense  :D

By the way, just a quick side by side photo for you to look at. But honestly, only a WIS can tell the difference.

While the 116610LN is more casual and “toolish”. I really feel that the 116710LN is more versatile

Yes the GMT is far more useful if you travel across different time zones.  But even if you don't, the GMT with its green hand is far more unique than the Sub.

Everybody seems to be wearing Subs these days ... and nodody really dives with it so the depth rating & dive bezel are pretty much useless.

Having said that, your 16610 being the previous reference, does give a nicer almost-vintage look & feel.

Really depends on how much you're getting out of the trade.  Just my 2 cents

Nobody these days use the GMT feature or dive capabilities of a Rolex. We have iphones and dive computers for those functions so buy and wear what you like. The newer clasp and heft of the 116710 might be more attractive than the 16610.
