First Luxury Brand
« on: July 05, 2017, 08:05:25 AM »
Dear all, I been browsing this forum as guest for quite some time. Finally, decide to register. My question to all sifus is which brand should I get for my first luxury watch. I having a budget of rm 15k. Currently, most expensive watch I owned is Tissot. Currently, I had an eye for preown Omega Seamaster 300, new Tag Huere Diver type, Tag Huere connected & Oris Aquis Date. However, I am worry about repairing or maintaining their movement as I came across the repair cost of  my Tissot is RM700 for a quartz movement. I was shocked.
Any advice? Thank you all sifus

Welcome on board!

I am not a sifu. But I could share my experience if I have chance to turn back to turn back time. My first luxury watch with 15k would definitely a Rolex watch (after yr 2000 model).

I would suggest Tudor Black Bay or Bell & Ross. These 2 were my 1st true luxury watches

With a budget of 15K, I would go for the Seiko 63MAS re-issue SLA017. ;D
Other options would be Tudor Heritage or Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean

Hi Cocas, may I know where can buy that? Hard to find in Malaysia. I have no confidence in trading oversea as I can't differentiate the replica & actual unit.

i would suggest to get a brand new watch for a first luxury as 15k can get you many options. Tudor would be a good watch for that price range, you can either consider blackbay or pelagos, they are under 15k. Alternatively you can also consider tag heur's higher range like the heur 01 or 02.

If you don't mind pre-own, Rolex. For brand new, Tudor.

I second this suggestion. Starting with a pre loved Rolex will always be the right way to go. For 15K, it is well within reach. You can try browsing the for sale sections here on MWF for starters. That will give you an idea of what model will go for what price.

Hi @tayman

Explorer II is a quite common and easy find watch at most of the preown shops.

I am only familiar the watch shops at JB areas. If KL areas then I have no idea.

I'm a huge B&R fan so I'd say Bell & Ross although the design may not appeal to you. If not then I'd say Omega is a good start!

And you dont have to worry about servicing and all. From personally experiences, the movement of my watches have almost never failed me. Some can last for years without a need to service. I go by the theory that if its not broken, dont fix it. So you dont need to service the watch until it gives you problems. And most times, inaccuracy is due to magnetism which can be fixed without opening the case and usually quick and free of charge by service centers. Once warranty ends, you can always go to a reputable watchmaker to service it at half the price. Cost is quite manageable for most movements especially ETA.

Hi @tayman bro.

I had lunch at JB Holiday Villx Hotel and did hopped in the preown watch located at lobby.

Very sorry to inform you that the explorer II preown piece price is RM 18k and some more without box and cert.

RM 15k may not be easy to get 16570 explorer II now.
