SEA-GULL
SEA-GULL is the in-house brand of Tianjin Sea Gull Watch Manufacturing Group, China’s top watch maker. The company was established in 1955 and has developed and prospered, much in line with China’s overall progress and development. Today, SEA-GULL is a modern internationally oriented watch manufacturing company. It is very well known within the industry as it is one of the world’s leading mechanical movement manufacturers. SEA-GULL’s high-quality mechanical movements are used in watches of many well known brands.
SEA-GULL branded mechanical watches are of the company’s own design and made from the best materials and components. A SEA-GULL watch is made with deep veneration for the old watch making tradition. This is clearly reflected in the materials, design and features of all SEA-GULL watches. The fine mechanical movements, with blued screws and many jewels can also be enjoyed through the transparent backs found on many of the models including chronographs, automatic and tourbillon.

David/Yen, is it possible to post a closed-up pic on the movement ? Really keen to see how 'refine' are those polished parts compare to German & Swiss manufacturers. Thanks in advance :)

the watch no longer with me... 'gave' it to a gov servant....
but the finishing is no way near german and swiss.... it is machine finished... the geneva stripe is rough!
but it is very accurate... but it is same like venus design.... chrono work well with the column wheel....
but the price is too attractive...
-
both watch look nice.
david's sea-gull very 'Patek' feel. :)
-
I got my seagull at 70% off the list, as that shop at Summit is having a clearance sales. The price is too attractive to let it go. Here take a look at the movement details...at the thumbnail.
Note; new pictures

good price... but i always wonder why seagull sell their movement so cheap to others... others watches is cheaper than seagull own brand....
rm650 is good price since its retail is more than rm1k.... then hk and china after discount is around rm8-900....
-
wow, RM650 +/- really good price.

David,
Great timepiece at a wonderful price. What more can a man ask for!
At these price levels the Japanese, German and Swiss companies had better watch out for Seagull.
I believe the manual chonograph movement is similar to the Russion Poljot 3133.

Thanks Danny and others for your encouraging words. This is a great forum where we keep on learning new things everyday...Malaysian style

1) earlier Sea-Gull (but not Dongfeng) ST5 movements were decorated in what are now known as the classic "Sea-Gull stripes", each watch's decoration being slightly different as the striping was done by hand, not machine. The earlier striped movement examples are the most desirable.
2) when most (almost all) watch factories were mandated to cease production of their own movement designs in favour of almost ubiquitous production of the Chinese Standard movement, Tianjin/Sea-Gull was exempted from the edict as the ST5 already met or surpassed the standards required under the Tongi mandate.

How is the accuracy and durability of the Chinese movements compared to their German/Swiss counterparts?
-
Thanks for sharing, seems like chinese watches also not bad at all?
As normally we be use to on Germany and others watches

I used to have one but the daily difference is too huge that i give up on them. But overall with the price they are offering, i still think it is worth getting one before upgrading to the more branded
-
how's the movement ?
-
how is the movement? can last?
thinking to pick up one of their tourbillon
-
i dont have much confidence in chinese watch, either my chinese friend. even some others brands of watch with chinese made interna parts. Hope you are lucky. The watch might see problem after few years of running, wear and tear of internal parts.

The ST1901 has been a ubiquitous movement worth of respect. I reckon the majority of movement that adorned watches in AE are from it. I got my trusty old 1963's and it has been running great for years. Though recently I just wish for a similar movement but with an automatic module. I'm just getting old I guess.

For such an affordable price the movement is surprisingly pretty.
