Just back from HK yesterday, at last finally managed to see and touch and molest some John Lobb, Church's and Loake, too bad I can't find any Meermin.

Well they all out of my budget, to fulfill my urge, end up buying this new love...it was love at first sight

Good stuff here from all of you, I just wanna ask, where would be a good place to shop for quality shoes in KL? (Discounting the usual suspects along Jln Gasing)

From what I have gathered, it seems like Bexley has the best quality to price ratio shoe trees. I am planning to make a purchase with at least 4 pairs. I want 2 pairs myself. 4 pairs at €97.50 which shipping is included. That is €24.38 per pair. If we buy more than 4 pairs, then, the price per pair will get cheaper as the difference in shipping cost is very little.
Is anyone interested?

I am ordering 4 pairs of Woodlore Cedar  shoe trees from East Dane's at USD25 per pair. There is one pair available for anyone who is interested. Please contact me as soon as possible. Thank you.

Sorry but I've always wondered, are those shops along Jalan Gasing any good? Or just hearsay? Which one to visit?

East Dane has a very silly policy which doesn't allow me order more than 2 of the same size shoe tree on their website. Therefore, I will be ordering from Bexley at around the same price. One pair is available for anyone who is interested.

You wouldn't go wrong with any of the brands mentioned by ivan..... Personally, i started off with two Loakes bought from Plal, then accumulated nearly a dozen of dress shoes over the years..... Mostly Ballys and English shoes.... >5 Ballys, 3 Church's and a Handgrade Crockett & Jones... All of my dress shoes except for one have one thing in common, ie. Goodyear welted.... Imho, none of the Ballys or Church's that i owned can match the craftsmanship and the leather quality of the Handgrade C&J...

I've tried JL and EG, they are of course better quality then the Handgrade CJ or the Church's, but i feel at the price of more than 5k - almost doubled the price, i find it very hard to comprehend - a point of diminishing return!

And, Church's has been expanding their line of late after Prada's takeover..... So u have more choices nowadays and not just the 'uncle' collection.... That said, that's one of the main reason why most of the shoe snob hate Church's these days....for the fear that they are becoming more of a fashion brand instead of a pure shoemaker!

Not an expert but i will attempt to answer your question.

Of course, there are differences in leather quality and stitching, etc but generally, the easiest way to differentiate between these two grades would be by looking at its sole.

The first two pictures are handgrade. You would notice that the sole is tanned with darker colour and you would not see any stitching on handgrade's sole....

The other obvious difference would be the stamping/logo used inside the shoe.

The left logo is used for the benchgrade line (in gold) while the right logo is used for the handgrade line...(indented on the shoe in-sole - without any colour)
