Sony Alpha NEX-7
« on: September 07, 2011, 09:25:22 AM »
A new camera is making its presence felt :

The Sony Alpha NEX-7 has a sleek body with a more advanced interchangeable lens camera (ILC) The body is made from magnesium alloy, the NEX-7 is fitted with a 24.3-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor and is capable of 50p full-HD recording. It also captures ten frames per second in Speed Priority Continous mode.

Pros (IMHO) -
1) A new 24.3-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor, which is quite substantial considering that most ILCs max out at 16 megapixels. So, for all shutterbugs who like to crop their works, they have more rooms to manuveor for cropping shots without losing out as much on image quality.
2)It's the first ILC in the NEX-series that features an XGA OLED, 2,359k dot built-in viewfinder. Its viewfinder gives you close to 100 percent coverage of your scene and allows for more accurate framing, especially useful for landscapes or macro photography.
3) A hotshoe to attach an external flash.
4) Improved autofocus speed by upgrading the autofocus algorithm. (as claimed by Sony)

Cons -
1) Price. Sony products are not cheap, you know. Priced at US$1349.99 in the US (with 18-55mm kit lens), this NEX camera is more expensive than current entry-level dSLRs.
2) Oly & Panasonic have more choices in lens compared with the NEX-7

As review in CNET :
"The Sony Alpha NEX-7 is a more advanced camera which could appeal to seasoned users with its manual controls and upgraded features such as a proper hotshoe and built-in viewfinder. Additionally, Sony's currently limited lens lineup will also be seeing some new introductions later this year that include a promising Carl Zeiss-branded 24mm F1.8 prime and a 55-210mm telephoto zoom. A better selection of lenses could help this camera overcome its high price tag. "

NEX-5 is available in MAlaysian market since 2010, but NEX-7 will have to wait (most likely end of year) as this was just announced in August 2011.
Also heard that NEX-7 will be available in US market from November 2011. Body-only pricing is set at approximately US$1,200, while a kit version including a special black variant of the Sony E 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OSS lens will be priced at around US$1,350. The LA-EA2 Alpha mount adapter with phase-detection autofocus capability will cost about US$400, and will be available from November 2011.
