Worth keeping watch under 20k
« on: October 31, 2019, 09:51:34 PM »
Hey guys, i'm looking for a watch new/pre-owned, maximum 41mm case, and the value hopefully won't depreciate much, so that 5 years in future or less i can still sell it and further upgrade to the next watch. Any recommendation?

All watches loses it's value over time. Except certain models of Rolex and PP. If your concern is it's pre-owned value, you should be looking at pre-owned watches or NOS models. Unless you're buying a Rolex, never pay RRP for a new watch. Always ask for discounts.

End of the day, buy what you like and what you can afford and enjoy the experience. Take you time and don't rush into buying as soon as something catches your eyes. That's a mistake a lot of us do.

Cheers.

I do have a few choices in mind, but just wondering how's their depreciation. My primary choice will be the IWC Le petit prince IW377714, the only worry is the 43mm case size, which i have to try it on to decide :( orelse my other alternative choice would be a speedy or airking 116900, is there any other recommendations that i can look into?

My choices for watches worth keeping for under RM20k besides IW377714, AirKing 116900 and speedy would be:

1. Zenith El Primero Chronograph - 42mm (a tad bit over 20k but you can shop around for more discounts)
2. Tudor North Flag - 40mm (the only Tudor with exhibition case back, I think)
3. Breitling Premier Automatic - 40mm
4. Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Dual Time - 41mm
5. Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Black Dial - 42mm

Hope the above helps. Cheers.

Buy preowned and the first owner has already taken the hit.  Further price drops thereafter are minimal if any at all.

I would suggest any Rolex or sought after Tudor models. The Black Bay GMT (41mm) may retain its value because the stock is still very limited. Had not even seen an actual model from all the AD I visited.

You can also consider Tudor Heritage Black Bay (ETA or in house movement). Or if you wanna max the RM20k, try getting a Rolex Explorer II 16570, 40mm. With a bit of luck, might be able to get one around RM20k. Rolex sport models can hold their value quite well.

If brand new, I think IWC and Omega hold its value pretty ok.

If pre-owned, Rolex hands down, but again sport model will be hard to get below 20k.

If you have a little more budget you can push for a rolex explorer 2 in white dial.

New or used, I think the speedy (whether pro or fois) is a great buy for under RM20k. I love mine.

SMPc holds good value below 20k for brand new, even more so now with the white ceramic dial, damn cun
At MYR19,300 before discount (rubber strap), it's a great buy, and tbh the 42mm doesn't wear that big on a small wrist. Add about 1.3k for bracelet is better, then buy the rubber strap separately, cheaper too.
