what car should i buy?
« on: January 14, 2010, 07:59:07 AM »
i'm undecided on what car to buy....

i want a car that
1. fuel consumption low
2. safe
3. comfort
4. fast
5. around rm100k
6. before CNY
7. not that bad on resale

i got n offer yesterday for a honda civic 1.8 japan model year 2006 asking for rm91.8k
it was price higher than malaysia model for around 4k
low mileage but not well up keep.... the car belongs to embassy...
brand new is rm115k now, so different is rm23k
different for interest of 1% for 7 yrs loan work out to be like rm5k
so different is 18k for a 4 yr old car
rm4.5k depreciated a yr...
sound good? not really but the additional item on japan made car has some premium!
i counter offer for rm88k which i dun think the guy will sell it to me!

went to used car see couple of civic 2.0.... all asking for over rm105k for yr 2007...
i think the price is just too high, brand new is rm125k so the different is only 20k
and if i buy this used i'll hv to pay higher interest about 1%
then if i borrow for 7 yrs... another 6 thousand different....
so actual different is rm14k for 3 yrs old car.... rm4k plus a yr depreciate....
why got ppl buy this used then?

seems its hard for me to buy pre owned car...
buy new will hv to wait till after cny or mayb even in march....

i dont feel like buying new car with ready stock or not selling well... afraid of resale value later...

i'm in dilemma!
:Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue:

 any recommendation ?

Chris.

Welcome come to the world of car hunting.
It is as exciting as hunting for a watch.

By reading your writes up, you have done your homework well.

For cars that's retain their value well, consider these 2 models;
a) Toyota
b) Honda.
c) ...have you consider Suzuki?

I believe at the moment, its very difficult to book now / and get the car by CNY.

Buying used car has its own hassle. Better buy new.

We had booked a new Honda ...last week and the delivery date is somewhere after April 2010.

Good luck hunting, bro.

dc
I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

nissan slyphy is my 2nd choice after civic...currently i m driving e civic 1.8 and i ll say the fuel comsumption is not too low...1 litre for 12-14km (combined of city and highway drive)...

1. fuel consumption low - H = not really , N = To be confirm --- my fren say N can stretch to 1L for 15km-16km
2. safe - H & N should be on same par
3. comfort - H & N be on same par as well...both also quite spacious
4. fast - H = , N = not too sure but low FC
5. around rm100k - i have no idea for both
6. before CNY- i have no idea for both
7. not that bad on resale - H = , N = i guess not so good gua...

above is just my humble opinion and meant for "chui sui" only dnt take it so serious...hehe :Laughing_on_floor:

thanks for giving me your hands on opinion!

yes. after some study and chit chat with expert! this is the answer i got
1. fuel consumption N is much better
2. safe - N rear break is drum type is disappointing
3. comfort - N is more conmfort H is more stiff on absorber. N has a longer leg room. N cvt engine no gear change effect also helps!
4. fast - N 2.0 cvt engine is better than H ivtec 1.8....
5. price - H now selling at rm115 no discount. N selling at RM114 with discount near 10k. +4k u get leather seat, full vkool n cd changer!
rm125 before discount u get full impul accessories + leather seat + 17' alloy rim n sport tyre n...!
6. before CNY- H no way.... unless your fren cancel his order after waited 2 months. N possible
7. not that bad on resale - H = , N = i guess not so good gua...

i still undecided...

Bro.

When you do purchasing in your own country, do not convert / compare.
Dollar to a dollar, Cars are much cheaper in other countries.

That's when you earn in your own currencies

eg. I can get a mini cooper at around Aussie 60-70k. Here, in Malaysia, the same model takes around rm160,000.00.

If my take home pay in Aust is A3k, I can easily afford the mini. But here in M'sia...no way.

Just my 2 cents

Last week i went Honda showroom now the 2.0 civic already at 129k+.

My friend just bought a Latio manual and he got his car in less than 2 weeks.
81k.

I like it alot coz the interior space is huge for a car that size.

Selphy is a good choice also.

I dont know bout local assemble but my sis bought the last batch of Nissan Sentra fully import, never had a single problem (besides wear n tear stuff) up untill 80k milleage.

yeap. civic 2.0 is rm129k now...
last week i spoke to my wife's cousin, a honda car sales...
they all are in holiday mood, all hit the target in sales, will get free trip....
delivery time is 3 months...

so i gave up on civic!

talk to a few friends who are in car related industry, mechanic, tyre, accessories... about sylphy!
surprisingly their feedback is not that bad!
1. fuel consumption is damn low
2. maintenance is cheap, even the new cvt fitted into this car expect to last for 200,000km
even if it is broke, it will be cheaper than gearbox...
3. the engine tuning is fun for city driving... 90% power around rpm2000
4. spacious.... super long leg room for tall guys!
5. comfort, thanks to the renault tech to give some continental feel!
6. full vkool, combine leather seat, large screen latest gps.... at super affordable price!

setbacks
1. civic look much sportier.... sylphy look so so only with aerokit... look better than ok with impul aerokit (lower)
2. the too plain steering... not even control button for audio, now metal logo .... on this big car is below expectation
3. no vsc...
4. the 15" rim is a big joke!

What about the rear drum brake?
they said is ok to have rear drum brake since already have a ventilated disc brake in front with abs, ebd, ba....
its even better in wet condition...
but need to service the brake regularly...

so since my fren in nissan seremban can get me a super huge discount deal, my bro is willing to offer me new set of tyre with 17" sport rim at cost price and trade in my original tyre n rim...
so i finally decided to take the sylphy 2.0 luxury with navi and aerokit... sacrifice for my sporty character (a guy who drive a car in town like in racing track) for the comfort of my family.... hope my new born will appreciate it!

Unless your car is a performance vehicle, I see no point modifying / soap up your car. For a new car, warranty is void under this modifications.

Yen,my opinion is :

Around 100k car , few model you can choose is civic 1.8 , nissan slyphy , toyota altis , mitsubishi lancer , peugeot 308 and toyota wish(recon).

Summary:

Civic 1.8 - nice interior - best looking dashboard among above (as least for me) but pity no leather seat.
exterior is also not bad - elegance looks , suitable for young ppl
FC is approx. around 60km per RM10 (city drive)
However , i get a lot of negative feedback about this car for their body/chassis.My friend just sold his 1.8 using not more than 2 years because he say got a lot of 'rat' sound.Wind and sound proof also not that good. This car is locally assembled.Price very 'stiff'.No discount given. :Blue: RM115k . However , This car got good resale value.

Nissan slyphy - I did a test drive before.Very impressive.Love the CVT gearbox,no jerk when changing gear.Acceleration is also quite good.Very spacious in the rear room.I think is the spacious among all i mention above.
The only 2 thing i don't like about this car is 1)the dashboard - very cheap looking plastic material , especially the center dashboard(radio look a bit cheap). For a price around 120k , is a bit disappointment
2)the exterior - looks a bit dull . but i heard they now come with full skirting , so maybe is not that bad.
FC not sure , but for city drive i think also not really save as it is a 2.0 engine. Price around 125k and this car use leg brake(handbrake at leg)if i am not wrong.

Toyota Altis 1.8 - Did a test drive too.Acceleration is ok and this car have shiftronic which is a bonus compare to civic.Nothing to comment much on this car except when i rev this car to 120km/h , wind proof is not that good and the car feel a bit floating. For the interior , nothing much changes compare to the previous model.Nothing really attractive.Quality is ok lah...Leg room is also not really spacious. For exterior , 50 50 lo.some ppl say uncle-look car and some ppl say ok.but i also heard toyota is giving promotion , which this car come with free skirting , so maybe not bad.The pearl white altis is really nice.Price is 109k for low spec and 118k for full spec. The low spec model did not have vsc.So far i didn't hear any complain about this car.only ppl critic the dull looking exterior.FC not sure.Maybe a bit save compare to civic 1.8

Mitsubishi lancer 2.0GT - Exterior is really nice and sporty(for me la).Very fierce looking car.Come CBU completely with full skirting.5 year warranty.124k for CBU is not bad but a bit afraid of the resale value.Interior is all black with nappa leather seat.6 speed auto with paddle shift.but did heard ppl complain for the engine performance.Acceleration is a bit not that good.Room space also not as big as slyphy.FC not sure, but i think not really good because come original 18" rim.Maybe in your case this car is not so practical for you.

Peugeot 308 - Just an opinion. - 1.6turbo , panaromic roof , continental car , price around 110k +- but resale value ...  hehe , i think all of you know about it.

toyota wish 1.8- so far this car receive a lot of good comment . price is around 110k to 120k.FC not bad(almost as civic). Suit any family guy . the only thing is , it is a recond car , which make you a bit hard to sell after few years.

I heard nissan latio hatchback is also not bad.The interior is spacious.Very smooth riding car.Maybe u can have a look at it.price around 96k without bodykit.

One last more , naza forte - nice looking exterior , smart interior - got keyless entry , engine start stop button , 6 cd changer ,and 6 air bag , quite future wise . price also quite attractive . 85k for 1.6 full spec and 93k for 2.0 full spec.however , only concern is resale value.

I suggest you go for a test drive first then only you decide which car you wanna buy.Don't in hurry to buy a car as you might regret it later.I hope i did help you a bit after giving my opinion , although it is not really detail.Anyway good luck...

Usually , eibach spring , despite for wat car , all cost above 1k.however , eibach spring lower your car without really sacrify your car's comfort.Unlike other brand like GAB , not to say they are not good but they are a bit stiffer.eibach spring is just nice . lower your car but maintain the comfort level.

i agree with dennis.change your rim first only spring....

Yen,my opinion is :

Around 100k car , few model you can choose is civic 1.8 , nissan slyphy , toyota altis , mitsubishi lancer , peugeot 308 and toyota wish(recon). YES U R RIGHT, GOT HONDA JAZZ, FORD FOCUS, MAZDA 3 WITHIN THE PRICE RANGE AS WELL

Summary:

Civic 1.8 - nice interior - best looking dashboard among above (as least for me) but pity no leather seat.
exterior is also not bad - elegance looks , suitable for young ppl
FC is approx. around 60km per RM10 (city drive)

U R DAMN RIGHT, THIS IS WHAT I HEARD, ESPECIALLY BOUT THE RAT SOUND N SUSPENSION PROBLEM WHICH ALSO HAPPENED TO CRV

Nissan slyphy - I did a test drive before.Very impressive.Love the CVT gearbox,no jerk when changing gear.Acceleration is also quite good.Very spacious in the rear room.I think is the spacious among all i mention above.

U R RIGHT, USE LEG BRAKE, NOT EVEN A BUTTON ON THE STEERING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. BUT PRICE AFTER DISCOUNT FOR LUXURY NAVI + AEROKIT PACKAGE IS BELOW RM112K

YES

I LIKE THIS CAR ALOT, BUT ITS TOO SPORTY FOR MY JOB N FAMILY...

Peugeot 308 - Just an opinion. - 1.6turbo , panaromic roof , continental car , price around 110k +- but resale value ...  hehe , i think all of you know about it.
YES

toyota wish 1.8- so far this car receive a lot of good comment . price is around 110k to 120k.FC not bad(almost as civic). Suit any family guy . the only thing is , it is a recond car , which make you a bit hard to sell after few years.
EXACTLY. ITS RECOND

I heard nissan latio hatchback is also not bad.The interior is spacious.Very smooth riding car.Maybe u can have a look at it.price around 96k without bodykit.
THIS IS WHAT I LOOKING FOR WHEN I WALK INTO NISSAN SHOWROOM, I WANT THE IMPUL HATCHBACK LE VERSION.... SPORT  YET NOT AS FIERCE AS LANCER, LOOK SMALL BUT YET ENOUGH SPACE... I LIKE THE WHITE PAINT MATCHING THE GOLD RIM... BUT NISSAN OFFER VERY LITTLE DISCOUNT ON THIS SO WHEN COMPARE TO THE SYLPHY, THE DIFFERENT VERY LITTLE

94K FOR 2.0 ACTUALLY. I ALSO THOUGHT OF THIS. I M NOT AFRAID OF KIA.... ESPECIALLY FOR THIS AWARD WINNING CAR. BUT I'M WORRY BOUT NAZA WHO HAS BAD REPU FOR PAST FEW YEARS, THEY CHANGE GD SPEC TO LOUSY, THEY CONTROL SPAREPARTS, PRICE OF CAR CHEAP BUT SPAREPARTS EXPENSIVE.... N THEY WILL THROW PRICE ONE DAY...

I suggest you go for a test drive first then only you decide which car you wanna buy.Don't in hurry to buy a car as you might regret it later.I hope i did help you a bit after giving my opinion , although it is not really detail.Anyway good luck...

THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH MY FREN. AS I SAID EARLIER I ALREADY BOOKED THE SYLPHY ! SO CANT REGRET NOW....
MY FIRST CHOICE IS CIVIC, BUT NO DISCOUNT N I CANT WAIT FOR 3 MONTHS.... SO I GAVE UP!
TOYOTA ALTIS NOT MY TASTE... EVEN THOUGH IM DRIVING A COMPANY CAR VIOS NOW WHICH I GOT NO COMPLAINT

NOW I'M HAPPY THAT I CAN GET MY CAR BEFORE NEW WORK N BEFORE CHINESE NEW YR...

Anyway , congratulation...sylphy is not bad...for a price below 112k can get this car actually i think is worth it.i really give 2 thumb up for the interior space.i think they even give low interest rate even after discount.is it 2.88%?
civic got too much negative comment already.not really that confidence... :)
I also like camry a lot ,so far hear no complain , but too bad cannot afford .... :Blue:

i'll give it a try after i changed rim and use for few months or yr till warranty gone...

yen,if i am not wrong, even if you change your rim and coil spring, your warranty will not void.My mum's myvi also using sport spring and bigger rim.but when i went back to claim the front disc brake , perodua still let me claim.I am not sure bout nissan ,whether can or not . have to check back with nissan dealer. maybe  you can try the impul version sport spring.Specifically design for sylphy , i think is better than any other aftermarket part.i think so la....
