One watch or multiple watches guy?
« on: October 13, 2019, 08:47:16 AM »
Given a choice of RM 40K, would you stretch all the budget for one watch (let’s say Rolex) or get multiple watches (tudor,Oris, tag,& etc)

Looking forward to hear your views! Thank you

I think it depends on the person, if you can live with one really nice item for a long time then Rolex would be a really good choice.

it is a totally different experience owning 20 lower end Casio vs owning a stainless steel AP. it is a matter of individual preference and reasoning of owning a single or many watches for the same amount spent

For me, it would be multiple choices. I get to wear different watches everyday and for different occasions. There are so many to choose from.... Omega, Oris, Tag, Tudor, Breitling, Bell & Ross, Longines, Montblanc and these are "higher"end brands. And if I get bored with one, I'll just flip and buy another one.

If the budget is RM40k, then i stretch for a Rolex such as the 114060 Submariner and the balance for a beater like a seiko. Would not go for a few pieces at RM12k each. But that is just me.

This is a subjective topic, it's down to the point which one you'd enjoy more. For me, I'd get one grail rather than multiple watches.

Get one...

For now...

Then multiple Seikos and Casios after many years...that would be the eventual route taken by many

Really depends on your objective. If you have business dealings with bosses, some might want an expensive F* off watch.

Most importantly, read up more about watches. Go visit boutique and try em on. Dont rush in. Last thing you want is to own a whole series of silly watches which you wear and watch you cant sell or waste to throw away. I.e. online brands that sell luxury watch but coupled with those $5 chinese thrash quartz movements.

Don’t rush into buying. Enjoy the shopping experience. When you take time to check out the options, you’ll be surprised what you actually like.

imo, with that budget i'll get the max for 1 luxury watch, and another tool watch like seiko/g-shock for rough use

because 2 is always better than 1  ;D

Dear Nelson,

Speaking for myself,

If I have a target watch and enough means to finance it, I will go for it first. You will not scratch your itch buying multiple watches and end up thinking about the ACTUAL one everyday. End up, you work your means to purchase it as well.

That being said, you will have new itch after getting the supposedly "WANT"ed watch. End up chasing the hole....

So one way or the other, you will get multiple watches unless you flip it and Upgrade your watch instead.

Best Regards,

Very well said indeed, my friend is an good example.
Recently he bought a submariner claiming that it should be the only watch. However, the next day he’s targeting an E1

I would second this. Watch person usually involves collection, because no watch is perfect for every occasion or able to carry all the stories you have across different life stage / encounters. 40k is definitely a capable budget to allow you to explore enough to understand what kind of person you are and what you're aiming to collect or fulfill through the purchase. It could be something that you've been longing for a long time.

I would get a tool and a dress watch. Perhaps the Explorer 214270 and a GS on strap

Depends on the combination, 40k could get you a preowned Sub now....but maybe an IWC pilot AND a Reverso.....

Woah, tough question. But I think at that price range I can get quite a few nice pre-owned piece. 2 that comes to mind within that limit would be a JLC duoface Reverso and a BB58.

Drooling just thinking about it.  :D

I would go with 1 grail (that being a 16610 Sub) and 1 RM50 Casio as a beater. I'd wear my 16610 in any setting unless there's a high risk of damage or theft
