Good site to read on watch repair
« on: April 16, 2010, 09:26:57 AM »
Just found this site, blog of a watchmaker frm down under.
You would be surprised at how some ppl wear their watches and the damage that comes with it.
Spent the last hr going through his older entries and its a very interesting read.

2 important things i learned from the site.
- Even a NOS mechanical watch, its best to overhaul it (if its worth to do so, not really for a rm300 seiko5 IMO) as disassembling the watch reveals alot of dirt n dried up gunk.
- When you drop and crack your cystal, pull out the crown n stop the watch.

To add on....he does show also how he repairs the watches sent in to them, there is also an article on how to perform polishing on Rolex case.
Damn...it takes a very short time!

I am surprised that he mention some of the repair work which include taking apart entire movt and do the usual maintenance work and assembling back takes only 1 day.

Makes me think that why we wait so long for factory service, is it because of the backlog?

We pay so much for service coz of the watchmaker skill?
