depends on your pocket. lol  :P
malaysian still prefer brands and style over movement (average malaysia)
rich guy have the sky as their limit. i went to hospital other day - 2 doctor wear rolex. both cost >RM 30k
Japan movement is getting better. good option rather than just "swiss made"

just my 2 cents

Watch for time keeping should be irrelevant for most people these days because of the presence of more affordable wearable/smart phones. It is more of an accessory or a hobby now.

With that, Malaysian based or not, should be very subjective because everyone has their own preference. History, story, movements, dials, variants, reliability etc all affects the demand. So its really tough to get an applicable feedback or apply a general answer to this.

Any specific brands you're referring to? Haven't heard of any Malaysia based watch yet and I'm still new to this industry, would be great to see some recommendation, always open for good design and reliable pieces.

Yeah Ming watches are great! Hosted an event with them earlier last year and to see their watches in the flesh was amazing.

Defintely on the top there for me as far as Malaysian brands go.
