below are some write up from watchbuys

All Tegimented, All Black Case

This watch is far more than simply a black version of the standard Sinn U1. When Sinn first introduced the Sinn U1 three years ago, the most requested feature was an all Tegimented watch (the standard Sinn U1 features a Tegimented bezel only).

This watch is not only the first Sinn U1 that we've offered in an all black case, it's also the first Sinn U1 we've offered in an all Tegimented case. The new Sinn U1 Black is constructed from the same steel that is used on the outer hull of submarines. The steel was procured by Sinn from a steel supplier to Emden GmbH, one of Germany’s North Sea shipbuilding yards who construct submarines. This submarine steel is not only extraordinarily sea water resistant (PRE value up to 38), it also possesses the highest anti-magnetic quality.

Next, the Sinn U1 Black features a completely Tegimented case, bezel, crown and case back. Standard steel used by most watch companies has a hardness of between 200 and 240 HV (Hardness Vickers is a common scale used to measure material hardness). The Tegiment layer on this watch in combination with the PVD coating has a hardness in excess of 2,000 Vickers which is more than nine times harder than standard steel.

The Tegiment layer is not a coating consisting of a foreign material, instead the steel itself that has been hardened using a special engineering process that creates a hardened barrier. This process increases the submarine steel's resistance to corrosion, as well as provides extreme protection from scratches and other damage to the case.

Engineering and Technology

The technology and design elements used to create the new Sinn U1 Black go far beyond standards used at most watch companies.

The Sinn U1 Black contains features you won't find in other watches:

    * Full Tegiment construction
    * Case constructed of submarine steel for superior resistance to corrosion, scratches and magnetism
    * Double Viton® seals
    * Bezel is screwed to the case using an exclusive Sinn design
    * Double coated anti-reflective sapphire crystal hardened with Tegiment process
    * In house case construction from Sinn's Glashutte case manufacture
    * Water resistance to 1,000 meters
    * Black silicon rubber strap with black Tegimented deployant buckle
    * Luminous glossy black indices and hands

The uni-directional ratchet operated rotating bezel is also milled from this submarine steel. The indices are machined directly into the bezel without the use of bezel inserts, which can corrode or come loose at deep depths. The international testing lab of Germanischen Lloyd has tested the Sinn U1 Black, and determined that the watch can be certified as water resistant to 1,000 meters. This same firm tests submarines for their ability to withstand the effects of underwater use.

The First U With a White Dial

Another request we often receive from clients is to offer certain Sinn models with white dials, since most of the line uses black dials.  Historically Sinn has typically used white dials only in special releases, such as limited edition pieces, and we have been fortunate to carry a small number of these watches in the past which proved to be very popular.

We love the white dial on this watch for a number of reasons.  First, the sharp contrast with the all black case is striking.  We also find that the dial is highly legible, an important attribute for any professional watch.

But we also like the dial color for its link to marine watches.  The U series after all owes its heritage to watches designed for use in and around water, and historically many marine watches used white dials.

Finally, don't forget the "unique factor" - sometimes it's just interesting owning a watch in a configuration different from the standard series.

A white dial U1! Just the perfect excuse to add another Sinn to one's collection.  :thumbsup: Wonder when the local HG outlets will have this in stock.
Thanks for sharing.

But white dial has too hard contrast against black case... not my cup of tea. Perhaps it looks better in flesh.
