sweet ride..........
« on: March 26, 2012, 10:59:35 PM »
Just sharing something I found on the.

The Giulia was the car I learnt how to drive in and it was a bit*h to maintain. But damn, I love that beast. Life was much simpler back then, no cup holders, satnav and all those electronic doodads.

Looking at these photos makes me wanna run out and get a project car.

What a sweet, sweet ride.........

Love those curves...they dont make them like they do anymore...what most manufacturers shld do is to follow heritage i.e. beetle, mini etc and carry on the lineage. Imagine that alfa in a modern 2 litre engine....vroom...

ah..an alfisti...
The Guilia were used by PDRM then the Berlinettas in late 60's/70s..

I think the Berlinetta's were sleeker..
However my outright favourite was the GTV and the Spider although they were rust buckets... you had to Tuff Kote it or the doors would literally fall off..

I drove the Sprint Veloce 1.7 Cloverleaf & 146Ti for quite a number of years in the 80/early 90's. Couldn't afford the Spider then...
However as age caught up, decided not to spend 2 weekends a month at the Alfa specialist garage, tuning/re-jetting the twin Webbers each time after a hard red-lining run or for the injection models, re-setting the tuning by onboard computers, sending in the soft alloy rims which got dented so easily when hitting our KL pot-holed roads, changing timing belts at 10,000k intervals..using expensive Selenia oils..
You just needed to treat Alfas with TLC with pre-scheduled maintenance or they'd break down on you unexpectedly...no doubt their engine growls were superb...esp the boxers or even if you had the later injection versions;  Squadra re-chipped and installed the Novitec exhausts...

Current ride for last 4 yrs is a German.. more powerful than a 156, excellent handling in the wet with ESP ,EBC electronic gizmos/torque diff,  visits workshop only twice a year for the 15,000km service intervals, not a single mechanical/electronic failure for last 4 yrs......lord of the rings...maybe too dependable, predictable hence boring...but at least doesn't take up increasingly precious time on your weekends at workshops anymore..

Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

yeah i remember weekends... with my dad down at the workshop. he loved that car and was lucky to have a former Alfa works mech as a good friend

whenever i bring up the topic of getting another guilia, he always discourages me because of the time and effort involved to maintain it. my neighbour drives a sweet GTV and always stood by the fence admiring that beauty.

love visiting the workshop too cause sometimes there would be some sweet GTAs around.

The Gulia was a rust bucket. My older brother had one then. I owned a 1974 Alfa Spider 2000 for 6 years. The clutch was just too heavy for KL traffic, used to get leg cramps driving it. Sold that to buy a Honda Prelude automatic in 1983, which I kept till today.
Still has my 1948 MG -TC.

Cool! Would love to see the Prelude. Was handed down a '78 Civic hatchback with original Mugen accessories and engine tune ups from my Uncle. Only 25k done all these years. Love flicking that thing around whenever I am back. Searching for a Matsuyama left side mirror. Anyone wih any leads would be much appreciated.

My old Alfa Spider. Unfortunately sold it and had to pay another RM21,000 to get the Prelude in 1983.

aaaaa... an alfisti thread!

h.chang, that's a nice Alfa you got there. sayang laa you sold it off to get a Jap, that Spider's a keeper!

To me the sexiest Alfa would be the 33 Stradale, then the SZ (Sprint Zagato), then the Sprint GTA, and last but not least, the 155.

Even dream of buying a 155 and fully restore it to GTA look. :p
