Steel vs Gold watches
« on: June 01, 2016, 05:25:24 PM »
I just went to the Hour Glass just now and tried on a Jaeger leCoultre Master Calendar in steel. Maybe I've become a little snobbish since getting my Lange Saxonia (haven't worn it in awhile though), but omg the difference in quality is immense.... At least it seemed like it.

After thinking harder, maybe it's cause the Lange Saxonia is made in white gold, so it feels heavier, hence a little sturdier?

Do you guys prefer gold or steel? Seems like I'm on the gold team

Me clumsy. So for eveyday wear - prefer ceramic or titanium matt finish.

For occasional wear or formal wear, gold is nice. However, red gold or rose gold seems to tarnish (except Rolex ones) so that has become a turn off.

Rolex everose gold is a proprietary technology, where it will retain its rose color.

As for general Rose Gold in the market, do take care not to expose it to harsh chemicals especially those containing chlorine as it will cause the copper to leach out, hence losing the rose color. Daily washing is also essential as to remove bodily salts which will cause the same effect of tarnishing.

I love gold, however it's very hard to wear and carry the watch to match my daily wear. I think i look better in stainless steel watches hahahhaha .

However, the white gold and gold are soft material, easily dented and scratched. Platinum might be better but come in a hefty price !

Omega...has their proprietary Sedna gold too..  i think not worth to buy watch in gold... is
cheaper that you buy the whole gold bullion/bar than some watches plated in gold  :Startled:

Steel for everyday watch
Rosegold for dress watch is fine,
Give u sense of luxury

While white gold n platinum look like steel, unless the model only limited for precious metal
Or else hard to justify

I am too clumsy for gold. Normally choose watches that are more tool watch. So steel for me

A little bit of both for me.  Half gold submariner blue dial is the best looking watch ever.

I have an immense liking for the 116613LB too. But having seen a couple of associates' 116613LB, where the gold part seems to be scratch magnets, I know that I would have to be very self-conscious wearing one in a careful manner so I have stick to the s/s ones for now.

Preferably steel, just personal preference. Found that gold is difficult to match my daily office attire and activities.

Believe gold scratches the easiest, so SS gets the vote from me. Would defo do platinum disregarding its immense heft

Gold in smaller case size and steel for bigger size. Gold for either dress or tool watch is fine for me.

Steel for everyday use is the best.
Rosegold will be great for weekend and special occasions but I prefer leather than bracelet for PM piece

definitely steel.

I tried rose and yellow gold before, enjoyed it at first but after months had passed I didn't like it and felt that it wasn't for me. Now if I want gold I would go white gold or platinum.

Rose Gold. It looks more elegant than yellow gold and white gold
